The casting stance makes it look like a Golf Cross Country without the rear tyre carrier and rear doors.
That would make sense
@@MatchboxGarage , may be put off road wheels for that custom 2dr Cross Country Golf look. Fabricate rear tyre carrier and put mud flaps on it.
I was thinking early Fiat Panda...?
I was going to say the same thing. And I'm fairly certain you could get the Golf Cross Country in a very similar colour.
Love the color. One of your best yet. Great work Rob. Looking forward to more.
My first car was a Golf Mk. 2. Fantastic little car. I also had one of these Matchbox toys!
Excellent job, Rob!! I love the color and your detail work!! I can see the rear wiper on the window!! Beautiful!!!
Another nice one! I wasn’t sure about the color at first, but once you put it all together, it looked really good.
WOW! That turned out very nice! Good work! Love custom videos😊
A triumph on many levels. Killer color.
Liked the color and all the paint detailed. Thanks
Probably your best one yet
That body colour turned out rather well. Also like what you did to the grill and engine bay.
This is just fantastic, thinking of buying one of these for myself actually.
I used to have a VW Rabbit diesel around 33 years ago! Nice job mate and thanks for letting me stroll down memory lane. Love the Bud light! This is your best to video to date! The detail is superb!
Another bang up job. Really good match to the Oak Green you find on MKll GTi
Great resto rob that was in my mind the best of the golfs great cars
great job done in the Matchbox Garage!
Man the detailing just sets off all your paint jobs. Love the grill too...red stripe around the grill just like real GTI. I'm waiting for the BMW e30 build in anticipation
I agree bring on the BMW E30 cheers KC Tasmania Australia
I loved this casting, nice work bro
I have a bunch of different MatchboxGTIs. Own a 92 16v GTI in Tornado red. Obsessed with it since buying in 98.
A great resto 🙂👍 glad I caught this one. Golf GTi in the 80's was deffo the 'Right Stuff!'
Nice color. I really like the idea of recycling the left over paint. I have some Coors Light and Pabst Blue Ribbon in the fridge. CHEERS!
Pabst blue ribbon is beautiful. I was lucky enough to get some from my local shop recently as a one-off special and I bought the pint glass to go with it. If it ever sells it again I am going to buy the whole stock 😆
@@MatchboxGarage; Pabst is my favorite, but it's getting harder to find it in longnecks around here.
Rob what about a video showcasing all the models you have done? Would be nice to see them all up against each other. Keep the fire burning matey.
I do need to do this
Great job 👍 I really like the extra detailing you put in like headlights and number plate etc. I was rather concerned that you were going to try to strip the paint with a Bud Light though! 😱😂😂😂
Video idea: howto get started, recomended tools, paints, where to buy cars etc. This looks like such a fun hobby, cheers
'Merican beer in the background! Love it, I'm down a few beers currently, bourbon next
Nice Video ane Volkswagen Golf GTI
🚗👍🏼
Looks a bit tall, possibly due to the plastic interior, though I would otherwise say I really like how the plastics are designed. Great build, Rob. I've eyed these older golfs as a restoration project, but when it comes to cars I can't seem to find the time or money for most of what inspires me.
So strange to me... I'm a few years your elder and I always preferred Matchbox to Hot Wheels. That said, I cannot recall a single ONE that wasn't a hauler with a tow hitch. We HAD to have removed them, but I sure don't have a memory of it!
That’s really cool! Great job.
Very Nice Vw Golf Mk2 GTI 😀
Really do like the wheels, great match. Originally I was mad you were using that slurry paint again but the final result was pretty cool.
Slurry paint is good name
details are amazing love it
The color and added details make this a great little car-nicely done! 🙂
Awesome video Rob,nice paint job on this golf,I do like the details you put on these cars,it just sets it off instead of leaving it as is.
Nice work Rob! As I recall, the mk2 Golf Rallye that came out a couple years later (around '89) actually was available in a pretty similar color.
I was about to say that lol
Lovely job. Love the detail of the red line and spotlights.
Another amazing transformation, it looks amazing, the colour really suits the car!!.
very nice work 👌🏼
i think the GTI had a black VW emblem 😉
You did a good job restoring that VW Golf and It's good to try a new use Matchbox once in awhile the paint job looks good!
I enjoy all your videos, you do good work.
awesome video! i have a 2007 gti mk5 myself and love that car..always loved all the mk cars tho
Lovely colour!
Another amazing job, But in detail it's missing the black on the hatch scoop of I am not mistaken, the black rubber scoop on the rear door great color
Loving those wheels
Always a good looking car. Lovely color and details. Very nice wheels. Great job.
God that colour is absolutely stunning! It's a lighter version of the first of the Golf Mk2 in the 2019 Hot Wheels VW range. The green blue is a dark teal colour almost.
I know what you mean about the shape and how it almost looks more like the Talbot Sunbeam "on steroids"...
I'm glad you did this because I have one I bought from new, but the wheels seemed wrong. I don't think the model was correctly assembled way back in the 80s and I doubt the axles were put under the metal strip. So it's been this way for 30yrs, sat with wheels rubbing against the wheelarches, therefore hasn't seen much use and almost mint. I just don't know how to drill it out
Beautiful color. The whole thing looks amazing!
Love that colour on the Golf.
Excellent restoration Volkswagen golf Matchbox 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Beautiful colour and the detailing is perfect.
I would put this in the top ten of cars you have done! The details and tyres make it a real nice model. Hard to believe it 's a toy Matchbox car!👍🏻👍🏻🍺🤩
Classic car... Love the detail on front. Great job Rob
I don't know why, but I really love VW diecast cars! My all time fav.
This was a great video. I really enjoyed it.
That’s an impressive finish! Well done!
Awesome job
Very nice model my friend
Pretty Cool, and also cheer up!
Great job as usual. Very cool color. You always do a fantastic job with the detail work.
So glad that you removed the tow bar
DUDE! This was real sexy! The details and those wheels were just super nice, and the color fits it the model really well.
The Best ever but i like the majorette casting a little Bit more...
Good Job 😁
The mark 2 GTI came in white red a graphite grey metallic green and black and it's the most popular car we restore
MK2 vr6 is the one Rob I blow mine up lol kids will be kids
That is one awesome paint job!!
Love the color!!
Exellent work.
You make such awesome videos! really like to chill in the evening with a beer in my hand and watch them. Keep up the great work.
PS: The color you talked about on the MK2 is called "Oak Green" if i'm not mistaken and it's pretty rare as an original color
Yes that's the colour
Not rare at all,but one of the most sought after colours.( This colour didn't make outside of Europe)
Sweet mate, looks great in that color. Looks almost military. Great details 👍
Really loving your vids lately. Glad to see you not using to much of the nuln oil. Was convinced you were going to paint this black once I saw the front grill. My ocd goes Beserk every time I see you painting with opening doors attached though. Just once can you appease me please?
Nice magnifying glass too by the way. I hope it didn’t come with new tweezers as well. ;)
The only thing in can say, its a very nice color, but it looks like the motor is gone and the car is sitting up like that,A++++!!
Very interesting.
Have had the exact same car (same GTI side details & all [there's at least two variations Matchbox did, possibly three]), except that the bonnet went missing at some point.
While I'll be keeping mine in original guise (too sentimental for me), this's given me a few ideas for a thorough dismantle & cleanup ^_^ .
As a family member had a real Mk.2 GTI in white though, I might in future get a 2nd, shabbier one to experiment on repainting and detail upgrading.
Got exited thinking was going to be kept red. As I own a 1990 mk2 GTI in tornado red.. looks great still.. I'll have to keep a eye out for one.. great work as always 👍
LMAO on the magnifier.... teeny weeny winkie. Shy Guy? LOL Thanks for that laugh, I needed it.
Nice job.
Nice. Nailed it
That's BADASS
Damn nice VW!!!!
I enjoyed this video a lot, i drive a mk2 gti aswel and love the color you were talking about that nice deep metallic green , i really like this model, great job👌🏻
Mate, another stunning vid. Great colour and detail on this.
ATB David
You are restored models are rare collectible pieces.. Congratulations
Nice custom restoration. I like the colour. And yes you're right about the size and shape of the car, it is a bit off and odd shaped. So the MBX Golf version was never a favourite of mine.
Turned out Awesome! Love the color and cheers.
i just got home from a VW meetup! I drove my mk4 gti and my friend drove his mk1 and i have a mk3 in my shed...
Mikey buy one of these and you’ll nearly have the full set🤣👍
15% 2k thinners in the lacquer I've sprayed in the past but that's on full sized vehicles.
If you use too much thinner and go on a little too heavy with your first coat one of two reactions may unfortunately take place and they're fisheye reactions with the solvent not being able to adequately escape and it leaves like a fisheye or tiny craters in the lacquer right down to your basecoat, this kind of reaction can also take place if there's any kind of debris or silicone on the part you're painting.
Second reaction is the lightning reaction which looks exactly like it's said it looks like long jagged lightning bolts across your paint, I've personally never had this reacting but saw it with my own eyes when someone was painting a model rc car and I can guarantee that it was because he went far too heavy because he was trying to paint a tiny plastic very flexible car with a 1ltr capacity divelbliss gti or sri I think it was and it was just ploughing out of the end of it.
Because of the scale you're working on and the fact you're running an airbrush I'd personally recommend you go with 20% 2k thinner and for the purposes of speed to go off faster add a tiny dribble of rocket and see how it sprays and the finish you can get.
ROCKED ACCELERATOR WILL MAKE YOUR LACQUER GO OFF FAST, DO NOT HAVE IT IN YOUR GUN FOR LONGER THAN 20 MINUTES 25 MAX IT WILL SET AND CLOG UP YOU GUNS.
I am pretty sure that you already know this but for others who don't, when applying your lacquer do a light dusting all over for your first coat (BUT IT MUST BE ALL OVER TO AVOID DRY AREAS AND RUNS AND REACTIONS WITH LATER COATS)
After say two to three minutes you're ready for your second slightly wetter coat, this will establish where you'll be getting angular blowback which are vortices of air blowing excess lacquer and making what looks to be a dry area.
Your third and final coat can be applied after roughly five minutes (BUT IT NEVER HURTS TO TEST A MASKED OFF AREA TO ENSURE THE PREVIOUS COATS HAVE GONE OFF ENOUGH SO THAT THEY DO NOT FALL AND RUN WITH YOUR FINAL WET COAT).
Just play around the 20% mark and if using rocket be sure you get it out of your gun as fast as you can when you're done because you don't want a spitting gun because it's gone off in there.
I've seen plenty of guns with solid lacquer in them, absolute joy to clean out haha.
To be fair the results you're getting for toy cars are good enough unless you're trying to get a nice wet finish but with a reduced lacquer hight.
Again you've got to just play with your thinner amounts but I'd say you're right on the limits of how much you can put in and you can only reduce from 50/50 or your thinners will eat your basecoat and any kind of metallic paints will look like they're running and clumping which looks very similar to the reaction of seagulls dump when it's not been cleaned off paintwork.
Lacquer and thinners is cheap enough just keep playing until you find what's best for you and the flow rate of your gun.
Nice one rob , outstanding work .
All the best.
Looks great. Love the green. I had that very car as a child. I think it is still in a box somewhere along with a BMW 323i Bauer convertible
Nice job!
Thanks Lee
You matched the color of your workmat!
Looks great! Yeah you ard right about the wierd shape of the casting, the rear end looks a bit chunky. The wheels fit great.
Good luck trying to find one of these in the wild though. It seems like more people are encouraged to recycle their old beaters, so this removes a lot of old iron. People are caring less for nostalgia, and more for effeciency and reliability. I guess that is why I have a yard full of cars!
Looks good Rob
Nise VW, interest color) Porsche - very cool)
Excelente custom y el color esta perfecto, quizás hubiera sido demasiado poner color metálico en los marcos de las ventanas, los parabrisas y manijas de las puertas. Gracias por compartir su trabajo me fascino.
I worked on costing out the wire harness for the US version of the Gulf 1985
Brilliant job on this one Rob! I'm pretty sure the Mk 2 did come out in a dark green The Mk 3-4's definitely did, love the wheels you put on they definitely boy racer from the early 90's lol.
Amazing job!!!! I thought that would be a tall order, to make it as good as new.. look wise... I had a red one and a blue and grey one I think... still have all of them in a box somewhere in the garage... I used to collect VW cars 😊
Wow I had this exact toy car I loved playing with that toy car was one of my favourites
Nice colour and detailing again 👍 Growing need to start going through my own treasures from early eighties and late seventies even. You have given huge inspiration with skillful projects and explanations.
Great work not sure on the colour thought
Great Job! Du bekommst die Details immer so gut hin. Da habe ich Probleme mit den kleinen Lampen...
Wow! Rob you knocked it out of the park
....was lil worried about the paint pot you got goin...but great color!
I think it would look better with a dark black or like a carbon fiber dark gray
Nice one Rob. Love the engine detailing ☺🚗
Love your work shame the casting isnt all that looks weird
