I kind of figured that with the sunglasses. That or he was higher than a kite and they didn't want people to see his eyes. I went with the blind angle but thanks for confirming. It's kind of like Stevie Wonder and others who wear sunglasses.
@@financeabcs Yeah my daughter goes to a Spanish/English school and they learned that. We figured her mom speaks it fluently she can learn to do it also. At least her mom can help her at home since her mom was born in Mexico.

Jose Feliciano's career was almost destroyed because he dared to sing the national anthem at a World Series game in his own style. People do it all the time now, but Jose was the first and he paid a steep price for it. Radio stations refused to play his songs and he was basically blacklisted. Jose went back to his native Island continued a career playing old time Puerto Rican ballads.
After many years, he released this song and the rest is history. Great man, great singer/ songwriter.
Now its cancel history cancel culture.

Now it is really appreciated and praised. He played and sang it while feeling some disillusionment with the situation at that time (1968) so it was his way of expressing it. Who could blame him ? MLK & RFK murdered, riots, Vietnam, confrontations, etc. Those who criticized him must have been living in FantasyLand, turning their back to reality. To me that version is sad but also beautiful.

@@garychambers5850 Gary, look for José Feliciano / Star Spangled Banner, here in CZcams. His sad interpretation of the national anthem was a reflection of the turmoil and chaos of the times but a lot of people in denial looked the other way. José was blacklisted for gigs and personal appearances.

This is sooo hip! Jose still sounds great! Check out his guitar virtuosity in the 60s and 70s. He also had the funniest Ed Sullivan intro “not only blind, he's also Puerto Rican”
And instead of the guitar he is playing the Puerto Rican "Cuatro", which originally had 4 strings (hence its name) but evolved to what it is today, with five pairs of string producing a robust 1-derful brilliant sound.

In 1973 a friend and I would go to this funky courtyard restaurant on the edge of Tunis Tunisia and every time we entered the proprietor would put on “ Come on baby light fire” blending the memory of Jose Feliciano’s wonderful rendition and warm beautiful Tunisian nights.
