    Love the channel, Charlie. As others have mentioned, there are grungier parts of Pittsburgh, especially areas outside the city proper like Braddock and McKeesport where they simply don't have the money to take down all the vacant houses and everything. In case anyone is interested, the the red brick buildings around 11:45 are Bedford Dwellings, which I believe is the oldest public housing project in America. Franklin Roosevelt made an appearance for the ribbon-cutting ceremony back in the late '30s.

      PlinkoBlinko not.really because this person could be only showing you.one area that looks ran down or a bad area and what they feel is a hood that really ain't a hood just because you see homes that are old........it's best to visit for yourself and not take these videos literally and think you see something that you really dont... just because the title say pittsburgh hoods....this was a bad was to show pittsburgh and I'm sure he did the same for other videos cause he only showed one hood in.this video and he didn't even drive in it he drove by it....he just showed you a lot of old homes ....there are bad areas and tans down homes everywhere....if your going to act like your showing some real hood .....let them be real hood and go in them to real show it and define hood .....cause a hood is a dangerous place not just a area that a lot of ppl just hang out

    • @OdO_Gee
      @OdO_Gee Před 6 lety +6

      True. I understand what you're saying in relation to the title but for me I'm interested in just seeing the city's areas that are not on the beaten path. It's more about riding through a city I never been before. I don't really care if he goes to a hood or not I just don't want to see a bunch of tourist attractions.🙂 He could make videos of himself driving through the back streets of Paris and I would still watch. I like to explore. Much respect though.

    The first 4 minutes + are of 10th Ward, Lawrenceville. My family settled here in the late 1800's. The area is gentrifying now. Small row house go from $200,000 to $500,000 and condos from $300,000. If hood means neighborhood, this is a hood. 6 generations of my family has lived here. For the most of the 1900's, the area was ethnic Irish, Solvennes, and English. It started to become african american in the mid-90' (but never over 35%), and now is home to anyone that can afford it. There is a little bit of everything there, and for the most part everyone gets along.

    • @MrHorse-by3mp
      @MrHorse-by3mp Před 6 lety +2

      Yeah, the Hill District is by no means great but they've definitely cleared a lot of the really decayed pre-WWII housing in recent years. On the one hand the old buildings sort of gave the place personality, but at the same time it was a neighborhood in terminal decline since the '60s well past saving in any meaningful way. Hopefully they'll at least preserve the couple of Orthodox churches, synagogues, and landmarks of the Hill's history as a black neighborood. There are also some interesting houses around the "Sugar Hill" area above Herron Avenue where Pittsburgh's black middle class lived in the era of housing segregation.

Or you can go to the really nice parts in the South Hills like Bethel Park (Go Hawks!), Upper Saint Clair, and Peter's Township. Basically, the South Hills is where the people with money live. We also have a lot of bridges and tunnels. Personally, my favorite tunnel is the Squirrel Hill tunnel.

      The steps were a way of extending and connecting streets where actually creating drivable streets would be impossible... Imagine extremely angled or vertical streets...
      South 18th. Street from Carson Street in Southside to Brownsville Road in Mt.Oliver is an awe inspiring road and one that commands one's full attention while driving it... And there are two of those staircases on it...
      I also lived in Brentwood, a suburb of Pittsburgh, and there were two such "staircase" streets because of the steepness of the hills there...

    If anyone goes to Pittsburgh and wants to take in the "postcard" view of the downtown area... You can go up to the Mt. Washington area and walk onto some of the observation platforms that are there.
    Also, riding the incline located across from the Station Square is a must and offers some excellent views !
    You have to admire the engineering and ingenuity that went into designing and building it because it was, and still is, a way to get to and from work all of these past and current decades...
    The Belgian granite cobblestone roads were not only meant to be durable, but to provide traction for the horse drawn streetcars...
    And any salvaged cobblestones are highly prized !
