Skinwalkers | The Navajo Nightmare

- The concepts of evil, shapeshifting, and possession are found in the myths and beliefs of countless cultures, and universally feared. The Navajo, or Dine, people believe in beings capable of all three and much more, beings whose very name invokes fear: Skinwalkers. They are seen as people who corrupted their spiritual teachings for personal gain, committing atrocities with mystical powers. What's more is that they are even said to possess the mind and body of those unfortunate enough to lock eyes with them!

I can never imagine a mythical being possessing all three, but the skinwalker. Such a good way to start the Halloween month.
Werewolf for me
@@emmanuelanyisia449 Me too
Fabulous way to kick off Halloween! I've hoping you would cover skinwalkers on this channel for the longest time, and you did not disappoint! :D I enjoyed the callback to the Wendigo and how the depiction of both has been drastically altered in modern media.
As a side note, I appreciate you listing your references. I'm working on an urban fantasy series that will feature skinwalkers at some point, so I'm grateful to have additional references to use when drafting!
I grew up on the edge of the Navajo reservation. The Dine have a wondrous mythology and culture. This barely scrathces the surface of the myth, but it's a great start!!
Well researched & brilliantly presented. So glad you did a video on Skinwalkers.
Skinwalker Ranch doesn't actually have a tie to Navajo tradition, and its name being use as a tourist trap is seen as a direct affront to Navajo traditions and people.
I heard somewhere that one way to defeat a skinwalker is to address them by their human name while they're in their transformed state; they'll be badly weakened and dead in 24 hours after that.
Facts, but what u gone do just start saying random names?! Lol cause otherwise its like “ yo bill i kno that u, i seen u transforming “!
@@AlmiightyTv one thing skinwalkers thrive on is being a to keep their human identities secret; if their identities are discovered, it's death for them.
Good choice to start the Halloween season.
i've a suggestion for a new video: Dragons, part 2.
although you've covered some of the more famous ones, turns out there's a lot more dragons in the British Isles and France than i thought.
Blue Ben, Lig Na Paiste and Gong Gong to name 3; as well as the various names for the monster like the Old Norse term "Ormr".
and a mtyh video on the Basilisk/Cockatrice wouldn't hurt.
high time people learned that both names belong to the same monster.
Skinwalkers are not fully restricted to America. You mentioned beings with similar characteristics from Africa and other regions on other videos. However, I do agree that these American beings, much like the Wendigo, are particular in so many details. I've watched and read a few tales of encounters in recent years and they were chilling. True or not.
They are restricted to America, a very specific part of it in fact. The similar beings across the world are just that. The Skinwalkers gain their power from one of four sacred mountains on Navajo land, the further they stray from these mountains, their power weakens.
@@knightingale9833 That's quite interesting. I'm from Europe, so for me it's more about research and reading stuff and watching videos like this. Skin walkers, in this specific way, are not what legends are made of around here. But I do love to learn more about the bushes or it.
Love Skinwalkers even if they are so mysterious when it comes to the information related to them.
Thank you, if you don’t remember I asked you to make this video a little while back!
That's right you did! You and a few others! We held off on this one for some time because 1) little details, 2) the whole taboo of talking about them, and 3) it sort of creeped us out!
@@MythologyUnleashed It should creep you out! Thank you for the correct pronunciations of the tribal name and language words that you used. Very much appreciated.
You guys should make a video talking about Gremlins.
Salem, Center of the Witch Trials!
Hartford, Connecticut had witch trials too, decades before Salem started theirs
The images of the skinwalkers are freaky no wonder the Navajo are in fear of these things I would to. So glad I have not seen one nor do I want to cant wait for the next video.
What other beings have red eyes? How many other geographical locations have witnesses of skin walkers, besides the Navajo nation?
Can you please do Cherokee monsters.
Chilling! Been taking an interest in this recently!
Thank you so much for the video
❤🤍💙 all your videos mate👍
Sounds overpowered
Debate this:
Skinwalker vs Wendigo vs Aswang
Def met one
The more you talk of them the more they show up
We were talking about them at a fire around 12 and suddenly a prey mantis flew up to us and jusy sat there for a bit
Skinwalkers are one of the dangerous creatures in the planet.
Very interesting! 🤔
happy hellween
Anything paranormal on youtube "it's a skinwalker!" Haha
Memo to self, if visiting the states keep my guard up for more then muggers
If I encountered a Skinwalker, I'd just let it do whatever it's going to do because I would probably end up dead before I can stop it. Better to leave it alone and live to see another day.
Frankly, if I saw one, it would be slipping in the trail of brown stuff I left on my way away......

Not all skinwalkers were evil some were protectors of their people
Have you ever done spear finger on your channel?
I take things like this seriously. I will never go looking for these service to self evil witches. Some evils things need to remain hidden and in the dark. While I didn’t learn many new things about them I enjoyed watching and hearing the warning about them.

What russia has been doing and being occupiers as. Yes
Skinwalkers = Druids of Native American Lore
So actually cool and misinterpreted
Figured a shape shifting nature spirit should be chill lol
Asv Navajo Good job
But edit the way you say the Skinwalkers Navajo Name or they'll come back at you badly
They have 5G wifi on the Navajo Reservation and phones so edit your video I'm trying to save your lives
They are not legends😮
