My dad, Joseph T Baldwin MD decided to order a DeLorean when they were offered at a dealership in New Bedford, MA. in the early 80's. He got in the gull winged car, bumped his head, and said it wasn't for him, he was 6'3". He opted for a Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz "diesel" of all things. I think that still runs and works somewhere in Florida.
Thanks Scotty, I will buy puts on F stock. EV are useless and real Americans that actually use it for work will not buy this crap.
Buy some prolong oil additive to fix your engine. It starts making strange noises. $25 and 2 caps of prolong and your engine behaves. But you do gotta let it run and drive
Hey I think you need to talk a little louder. If I ever played poker with you I think I would be ready to blow my brains out in ten minutes

It's INSANE how much vehicles cost now!
These morons at the dealship trying to sell u a new ride acting like 30 50 grand is nothing like money grows on trees I want a maverick when they first came out 19 grand now they doubled is sale price scumbags am gonna hunt every used /dealership till I find one at least for 24 grand I went to a place they had one 54 miles and they wanted 40 grand told him ur on crack lol
The Maverick XL is around 22k. The Maverick hybrid Lariat with luxury package will get it up to 35k. But that's nearly fully loaded.
We can no longer afford new vehicles.
@@Doc1855 They wouldnt be these prices if people werent buying them. The guy waited 18 months for this.
@@cgallagher2112 Trust me, you don't want to buy a Mav that's sitting on the lot unless you get lucky. You're going to want to pre-order one so you get it for MSRP

Apparently I get shocked on a daily basis as a consumer in the car industry. It's exhausting.

I love the electric parking brake. It automatically releases if you start to drive.

Have the same truck, in cyber Orange, took me 18 months to get it in. It was worth the wait, love this new truck. The ActiveX seats are super comfortable, and really like the moon roof. Nice to have a truck that's front-wheel drive, drive so much better.
Took a long time for me too. But, it was worth it.
My parents got one of these because they wanted a pickup truck, but didn't need large towing capacity or a huge size. They just wanted a vehicle with a bed, and this fits their needs.
How much can they tow? Max weight in the bed? Hybrid is a good thing, just not sure how practical for a truck.

Mexico is becoming one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world. Quality has been getting better and better by the years. Is not what it used to be 10 years ago. It has its flaws but, today is solid work

I really hate those electronic parking brakes. Some vehicles will lock it if you open the door. I sometimes will pop the door open while reversing if I need to see below the mirror line. Sometimes pop the door open if I need to hear a sound. Engineers, give me mechanical parking brakes!!!!
I agree I dislike it too😂
I agree with you, and the dumb push to start, it's not a race car it's a hybrid! The Maverick is a Ford CMAX with a bed that's it, it thinks it's a truck! Sad day when Ford moves nameplates to stupid stuff like this...
You can lower the mirror

yeah, give me a handbrake all day any day.
My co worker bought the XL here in CA for $27,100 out the door. He ordered online and took 10 months to get and he loves it.
I waited 16 months for my Maverick hybrid....so far very happy😊
It is a miraculous day! Ford made a truck scotty likes , it was made in Mexico and scotty still likes!
I wonder if he's feeling alright 🤔
The ranger is now considered a midsize pickup. I bought a ranger, perfect size of what I wanted, the F-150 was too big, and Maverick wasn’t out. Ranger has been perfect.
What is the tow rating for the Ranger?
@@johnbee7729 mine has the towing kit, so it can tow 7,500.
@@scottmorris4914 I take it this is with the turbo engine. I’m curious as to what the tow capacity is on the hybrid.
@@eleanormassaro5195 Ranger only comes with the 2.3 EcoBoost, no other engine options, Hybrid Maverick can tow up to 2,000 lbs. 4,000 lbs with the FX4 2.0 EcoBoost.
My '99 Ranger tows up to 5,000 pounds. Compact trucks are a thing of the past, and unnecessarily so, unfortunately.
I just got my front wheel drive maverick in Vermont. There’s still snow and I’m on my junky summer tires that came with it and I’m amazed at how well it does in the snow. I’m so very happy with it
This year was my second winter with my Maverick and still have the stock tires but plan on getting the wildpeaks before next winter
That's because you have new tires. Tires are far and away the most important factor for driving in slippery conditions.
Yes Ezra! My channel shows my Mav AWD with Conti tires climbing steep snow covered streets in Park City with no problem. Surprised me actually.
I have this truck but in eco boost. Freaking love it for the most part. I dislike start/stop, rotary gear selector, and electronic e brake. Everything else is just perfect for a homeowner. I can carry everything I need, and for something really big I just slap on my trailer and tow up to 4000lbs. I highly recommend this truck for anyone unless you tow really heavy.
I agree, i put the stop start kill on mine for $100, and my rotary gear selector has already malfunctioned and nearly caused several accidents because when i think im in part it switches back to reverse due to malfunction. Also my right door rattles so cant play music.
@@FriarPop likely built on a friday or a monday lol
I agree with you. I have an XL hybrid and it suits all my needs except I tow a large heavy trailer once a month. That's when the Ram comes out of the mothballs. Over 20,000 mi and averaging 40mpg. I'm an old guy so I don't have to be anywhere in a hurry or be first to get there. Only time I see mid 30mpg is when I have a heavy load at hwy speeds using tow/haul mode. I added hitch, rear slider and CoPilot 360 and paid $22,500, a lot less than half Ram cost.
@@mistergary2517 With gas prices going higher and higher that little hybrid is the perfect vehicle. Enjoy. 😁
Rotary gear selector are the worst, who the hell decided that was a good idea...
I received my Mav hybrid about a month ago. Long story short, I love it.
How long did it take to come in?
About a year and a half. It's a great ride. My current tank is averaging 50 mpg! So awesome right?
As a tech that works on cars all the time I can 100% with confidence say that our Mexican neighbors really know how to put together a quality vehicle
Yep, if a Mex assembled car lacks quality it's because tha management wanted ti save a little more
good to know
Tell that to all the GM owners whose rear ends and transmissions were coming off the Mexico assembly line without the correct torque causing massive failures.
How about Mexican made cars 10 years ago? That’s my car and it still runs perfectly fine and it’s a ford
How about the Mexican assembled intake manifolds that really rattled the entire world. By Mexico picking up steam on US saliva pools they manage to uplift and restore potential future knock off parts. Thus making the neighbors flooded with enhanced moral which can only end in job security.
I am STUNNED! You actually gave the nod to something other than Toyota!
Thanks for posting waited a year-and-a-half for my hybrid well worth the wait Scotty loves it I love it
I remember when you used to say that you wouldn’t have any vehicle that was made in Mexico.
For an "in the city" pick up I think FWD makes sense. It frees up the rear bed for more cargo. It's also more stable on bad roads.
I purchased on for my wife to deliver plants and it works great.
If you are in Market for a four door sedan, By this by all means, my friend got one , he already has 76K miles, zero issues, Yes drives like a car, great MPG and you got a Bed ! Good review scotty
Thank you for your honest observations and impressions, Mr. Kilmer. Cheers.
I had a 2014 Chevy Trax assembled in Mexico and had no issues compared to previous GM vehicles assembled elsewhere.
I had it for 9 year! In that time I did the routine required maintenance and replaced the brakes but nothing else was needed. BEST crossover SUV ever!
"It's not like an F-150 where you can have a football game in the back." LOL
I have a 2022 hybrid XLT Paid MSRP for mine, no dealer markup. Took 9 months to get it. It just spent 3 weeks in the shop due to a wiring harness issue. Two weeks for the part to show up, another for the dealers terrible customer service. Love the truck and the gas mileage, much better than my old F150. If you've got a reliable competent dealer, and don't need a full size every day this is a nice little truck.
I have 2 XLTs I show on my channel. I paid msrp + $85 doc fee.
I have a 2023 hybrid coming soon. I love that it is a hybrid and that it is small (compared to normal pickup trucks).
Brilliant idea for those of us are annoyed by the periodic growth of pickup sizes.
Ford gets A+ for this truck. Toyota...what the heck? I would have expected this from you.
Eh
Later Ford truck gave second home in dealership and workshop nowadays for defective quality breakdown
Agreed, traded in my Tacoma for this 2023 Hybrid Maverick Lariat, and absolutely love it, getting 40 miles per gallon on average, okay the you're going to love your new truck.
My mav arrives next week. Hybrid lariat lux. I'm excited.

“The corn starts flyin by pretty quick” 😂
I just got a Maverick Lariat Hybrid...I'm getting 44 mph with mostly freeway driving...and it rides smoooooth. I'm loving it.
Love the size of the truck! For all the more most people use the bed of the truck, this is so much more practical. The ride looked smooth, the interior was well designed, fit and finish looks nice and excellent gas mileage! Mexican workers do excellent work with the proper tools and training. I would consider a Ford Maverick if the price came down to MSRP. The exterior styling and the layout of the dash is very good. I have owned Ford trucks in the past and all of them held up well with regular maintenance. Your customer's Ford seemed pretty solid.
I bought 2 Mavericks I show on my channel at msrp.
MSRP is already the price. Just shop around for an honest dealer and that's what you'll pay. I've read where some buyers even got a little discount. I didn't mind paying MSRP when I knew it was a good buy. I'll see just how good of a buy it was if my 2023 ever comes in and I trade the 22
I love those seats. They look really comfortable just because they look like they feel nice to the touch
Can confirm
I like mine a lot. Almost better than leather. I have the Alto blue ext (dark blue) and the colors of the interior fit perfectly!
Just got one, the Lariat edition, last month and so far I love it. Averaging 45.8 mpg in mixed driving. Rides very smoothly, love the quirky Ikea-like interior, and the infotainment system is very seamless and works well with my Android phone. No complaints so far.
Another great, honest, professional review. Thanks!
Wish Toyota would make an actual small Tacoma like before, now it looks like a tundra
Yea I miss the full featured smaller pickups. A guy near here has a Chevy S10 that I have been trying to buy. Guy won't budge. It's always over his dead body.....
We've got the smallish Toyota Hilux here in South Africa. An absolutely phenomenal little pickup. You can even get them with a 2.8 litre turbo diesel engine, and they literally run forever. They're not slow either. We regularly see them raking up a million miles on the diesel engine. Great gas mileage too!
How about a small rear drive fully FRAMED small truck.
@@michaelhungate7506 That's exactly what the Hilux is! Rear wheel drive. Small. Full ladder frame!
@@michaelhungate7506 Google search Toyota Hilux. It's been the best selling little truck in South Africa for the last 30 years. I dunno why Toyota don't sell them in the USA. I think it's because Americans want big vehicles, due to the majority of them being big (read overweight) themselves.
Hey Scotty, I am getting 50 MPG in my new Hybrid Maverick in Tucson AZ.
I see them mavericks in person they sharp lol trucks!! I'm a F150 guy but those are sharp!
Maverick looks great for someone tired of car issues with the Focus/Fusion, but wanting more storage than an Edge.
Good to hear FoMoCo Ranger meets initial inspection
STILL hope Toyota makes the Stout under 20,000 . Ya know make a real affordable truck for the masses. With basics. Thanks Scotty.. Your the best.
20k + toyota tax though
Keep on dreaming…
Great video Scotty!! Not sold on the transmission. Have to wait and see if they have issues and recalls!!!
Don't worry. There will be recalls.
I have this truck and even I expect recalls, but hey if it's free then sure I'll take it in.
I really wish it came with a manual transmission.
The transmission on this one in the video is an ecvt.
Only on hybrid, ECVT are not new, Fusion, CMax,Escape shared the same ECVT for more than a decade, nothing to worry about it.
Those lower prices are for the base trucks, with no options on them. We have a few base, base mavericks at our local dealership with an MSRP of $19,995
And on Ford's site: "Due to high demand, the current model year is no longer available for retail order. Contact your dealer for more information." With good reason! We got one of 3 mavericks delivered yesterday at our dealership. Love it so far! It's a commuter car. It's a light-duty truck. It's got decent space.
Do some videos I will sub! After a year of owning 2, I am still finding out new details.
My maverick is 18 months old. Just about at 50,000 miles. Not the hybrid but I am getting 25 mpg.
Wow, you got yours before me even though I ordered the week after launch. I have one of each version I show on my channel. My turbo AWD combined mpg: 26. Hybrid: 36
I've grown to like these little Mavericks. The new Rangers are too big to be a mini truck so this fills the spot. It is all most people would ever need
Or ,you could buy an older, well maintained ranger for like $25k less
Yes, and the turbo version I show on my channel is like a little race truck.
I'd like them a lot if they were two-door.
@@adotintheshark4848 I am not a Ford employee but my bet is they a working on that and will name that truck...Courier.
I already own an escape, I don’t want another one!
Thank you, Scotty. I will definitely test drive one. I am sold!
It is hard to find one on a lot to test drive. I just posted another Mav driving video this morning. Hope it helps.
Let me know in 5-7 years, how many are still on the road from this year? How reliable they are? How much will it cost to replace the hybrid battery? Maintenance Costs? Defects?
I have only purchased used vehicles. I'm still waiting to buy a 2016 Lexus RX350 someday per your advice, perhaps after the recession, if I live that long. My only vehicle is a 1999 Lexus RX300 and I hope that it is the last vehicle that I will ever own, though I do miss the utility of a truck.
Don't ever quit Scotty. This world needs the cold slap in the face, that only men like you, can deliver.
A regular cab Maverick would have been nice with a 6 ft bed !
There is a reason Ford made the Maverick a four door. Because the Maverick takes the entry level spot in Ford's line up to replace the Focus and Fiesta cars. So they made it to appeal to a couple perhaps with a couple of kids that wants to still haul stuff. If they would have made it longer to make the bed longer then it wouldn't have fit in an average garage. The Maverick as it is is only 4 inches longer than a Honda Accord. My maverick fits in my garage easily. Sure if it was 2 feet longer it would have fit .... barely with maybe 12 inches in front and 12 inches in back. If you get the bed extender than with the tailgate down it becomes a 6 foot bed.
I can see some contractors that don't need a lot of trunk space use these for their business considering the mpg. Of course it's not for someone that does heavy duty contract work but more so like IT, mobile washers/detailers, small business restaurants that sort of thing. Nifty little truck!
I added a bed rack to mine and have easily hauled 16’ 2x lumber and sheet goods… it’s pretty capable as long as you’re not towing
I ordered my Mav after Scotty gave his blessing on the first Mav video he made, after waiting like 8 months I got my Mav, 22 XL Ecobost with 4k tow package and I absolutely love it, coworkers love to tease me about it’s size sometimes but then I’m the last one laughing when my car fits in the very parking garage and they have to worry about oversized vehicle parking 😂lol .
But love my Mav tho!, just gotta be careful with shady practices dealers are doing to try to overcharge you.
You've gotta understand...28,000 is for the lowest, most basic version of the Maverick available...this was a Lariat, the most expensive version. so the price was adjusted based on the version purchased.
Just passed 10k miles on mine and so far it has been great.

Well done Mexicans. Good job putting this together.
I like how he calls it a regular pickup truck. No, Scotty, it's a unibody FWD Ford Escape with a box. Not even close, think Honda Ridgeline.
I have a 2024 XLT Hybrid Maverick and average 40mpg on a combined 40 mile daily commute 20 miles one way to and from work split exactly 10 highway and 10 freeway miles. Doing the speed limit and at the flow of traffic speeds so 70~75 mph.

In general, I don't know why these are even called pickup trucks considering how small the bed is. Why not just make the bed enclosed and have the equivalent of a minivan?
The future of car factories is in mexico.
Yes, Tacomas are now made in TJ.
Hi Scotty. Be sure to tell your customer to inspect the bottom of the truck. My '23 Ford Maverick Hybrid, assembled in Mexico, is starting to show the beginnings of rust around the frame bolts and muffler system. It's time consuming but applying a protective oil coat under it will last as much as 2 years and deter any rust agent during this time period. Cheers!
good luck finding 1 in CA with that price. Dealer still want 40k for a XL here
I am in Huntington Beach and the 2 Mavs I show on my channel cost msrp + $85 doc fee.
One of the biggest reasons I bought a mid-size truck, ( Frontier), was so it would easily fit in my garage. Nobody likes leaving their vehicles in the outdoor elements, so it stays cleaner, safer, and lasts longer inside the garage. After 17 years, my Frontier still looks and performs like new. Huge advantage and money saver !!
Hell yeah. My taco fits perfect in the garage. And we have hail every year in north Texas. Not taking chances
If I had this Truck? It would be the Last Truck I would have to buy in my Lifetime’ Providing I didnt Wreck it.. I keep the Up Keep done.. on schedule.. It would Last.. the Key is the upkeep😅
Mine took 10 months and I love it
No regrets at all.
Same. Mine took 10 months also. Got mine last August.
Seems like a nice truck and amazing in gas. Enjoy
Mine only took 6 months. I got lucky I guess.
@@whasian1487 No rhyme or reason to the way they built the Mavericks. Some people took over a year some took 4 months. You would think they would have been built in the order of the dates of the order but no.
I have a Ford maverick, hybrid, XLT, with the luxury package and I absolutely love this little truck I do most of my driving 55 mph and lots of city driving and I am constantly getting 46 to 50 miles per gallon. I would absolutely buy another truck like this in a minute. Yes they are very hard to get one I had to wait over two years, but found a great little truck!
Their packages dont make sense either. You can't get the upgraded stereo unless you get the lux package, which is several thousand dollars. That should be a stand-alone option. Same with the heated seats and steering wheel. Instead, you need packages to get those, and it jacks the price up considerably
They make lots of sense to the mfr as people will buy those expensive packages.
It's not a standalone package because it's a garbage upgrade lol
whats with all the hand waving and flailing around? does he suffer from a ‘condition’?

I bought my 2021 Mazda CX-5 at the right time, before the prices skyrocketed throughout the entire auto industry. I feel very fortunate.
Yup when i bought my Lancer new it was listed as $17,000 but I really paid $26,000
Just get the XL model if you want the cheapest price
If they had these on the lot for $25k with a their normally aspirated 2.0 w/manual transmission they'd sell like a modern day VW bug. At this price point and with the added complexity of the hybrid technology I'll keep driving my 2013 Ford Focus and 2008 F150.
Maverick is built on the Escape chassis so no surprises there. I'm glad to hear about the Mexican build quality. I would much rather buy from our southern neighbors than from Asia. I might have to check one out.
Terence, I like the Mav quality so much I bought 2 that I show on my channel. Ask any questions.
I ordered an XLT in velocity blue back in december 2021, sold her in September of 2022 and bought a 2022 honda civic instead. Loved my little truck but i had the ecoboost which didnt get good enough gas mileage for me
Why not get the maverick hybrid?
I really like the Civic but I don't understand why they made the hatchback with the same body lines as the sedan. That sloping rear hatch really cuts down on cargo capacity.
I really like my AWD & 2.0 EcoBoost Ti-VCT engine. The FWD version is good for when you're not hauling or towing but can be easily overloaded in terms of the front wheels loosing traction with a loaded bed or towing ...from what I've seen. The 2.0 EcoBoost is also less complicated than a hybrid. Ford finally realized the AWD PTU & rear end need their fluid drained and filled and now have drain and fill ports. So now it can last longer
I’ve had my maverick hybrid XLT for about a month now came in right under 30k with a few options added waited 10 months for it well worth it
Saw one for the first time the other day. It's small like compact trucks used to be which is what made them popular in the first place.
Under 20k you say? Hmmmm😎
They already raised the base price off that original $20k
I wish Scotty you'd do a segment on the paint that falls off of Ford Escapes. Affects most Ford Escapes 2017 to 2019.
On the A pillars & the roof areas. Ford has evaded culpability for years on this.
Many 90s and early 2000s Hondas had the same issue. They never had to do anything either.
I have to chuckle when I hear people complain about the high price of cars today. To which I reply, if more people were satisfied with the model T cars would be a lot less expensive
I love my Maverick XL Hybrid. I average 36 mpg back and forth to work, but around town I get about 40mpg.
Scotty you have plenty of juice left you'll be around in 10 years 🤣😂
Hello Scotty nice to see you!
Hello!
Ya, I had an '87 Mazda B2200, & I liked the smaller Toyota & Dotson trucks now... I really liked the size of the VW Pickup, but I would never have another VW anything again, like GM. Been there, done that :(
I feel like cars and trucks are aging in reverse. In 2016 it seemed like vehicles were going to all have the best tech and horsepower. This truck looks like an early 2000’s Ford Explorer truck especially with the lock keypad on the side
Great review!
The truck looks like an ideal choice for all the reasons that you stated!
Fit and finish looks GREAT!
I concur, I own 2 Mavs I show on my channel.
The miles per gallon is extraordinary!
its a hybrid
And a unibody. An actual, body-on-frame design would get considerably less gas mileage.
The editing had me rolling. 😅
I’ve noticed no one's even talking about the Hyundai Santa Cruz anymore. When the two first came out reviewers were comparing them and consumers were cross shopping them. Now the Maverick has outsold the Santa Cruz more than 2:1. It’s a combination of fuel economy, base MSRP and marketing. Ford is the first brand consumers search up when shopping for a pickup. Hyundai is probably last.
Hello Scotty from Mooresville NC USA
Afternoon!
Sure sure better than the 1960s Mavericks!
I think the first year for the Maverick car was 1970.
@@seanmcfadden6600 Your right.
1000 miles on the Maverick hybrid. Feels like I'm getting 50 city / 25 highway haha. The Ecoboost would be better on the highway in all aspects. Goes to show no car does it all.
I have an AWD ecoboost. I can get 33 mpg using premium and staying around 70 mph. Get about 1 mpg less if I use 87 or 88 octane. Driving around mostly suburbs I get 27-28 mpg. One thing I notice is the engine isn't turning many RPMs. At 70 mph it is only turning 2000 rpms. At 60 mph only 1800 RPM's.
I had a little two-wheel drive s fifteen and when I would shovel the driveway I would just put the snow in the back of the truck and pack it down.
I'll just keep my 94 Celica and have NO car payment THANK YOU!
