Miyoo mini is easily my best purchase of 2022, thanks to you. I have small hands, so the size is not a problem for me. It goes everywhere I go. I don't do long session of gaming with it. Perfect for gaming on commute, in between works, before sleeping, etc. I don't think I'll be buying another retro gaming device until it breaks on me. But when it does, the miyoo mini plus is the one I'm gonna get.
Miyoo mini with apotris or some Pokemon mini games have been a great way to kill 15 minutes here and there.
Its rare to get i would buy 2 and keep it until 1 breaks
LOL small hands gilmpix
Ditto. I'm thankful that mine hasn't exploded yet considering how much I keep it in my pocket.
You expecting your miyoo mini to break fast? Because by the time you look into getting a new one you'll probably get a way better handheld than the miyoo mini plus considering how many handhelds are being created and released each year.
The Miyoo Mini has the best feeling dpad/buttons out of the handhelds I've used(ambernic, retroid, ayn), but that mini form factor was pretty uncomfortable without using a grip accessory which ruined the whole portability aspect. Definitely looking forward to the larger size of the Plus and I'm glad they're launching with the transparent shell options.
the gripcase from partTimeCAD provides extra grip for improved comfort without compromising portability.
@@thomaschipman Thanks for the tip. I've been using the xbox style grip by amruthtwo, but maybe I'll print this one over the weekend.
[e]Printed it out and it is indeed a very cool print. I like how it uses the back ridges to lock into the case when in grip mod so you can change how high up the device sits. Of course, the rectangular format isn't as ergonomic as amruthtwo's grip but still a huge improvement over stock. Thanks again!
Atomic purple all the things.
I am 1.73 Meters tall . With small hands and it is pretty comfortable for me. I assume it depends on you hand's size.
the dpad is really GOAT. the input it registers is phenomenal as compared to others. it's almost on par with 8bitdo controllers, I'm glad I got the MM.
Thanks for the tour! Exactly what I'd want out of a MiYoo Mini XL. A bit more pocketable than the RG35XX, a few extra features, and the same classic Miyoo look & feel. I'm excited to get mine!
Yeah it's pretty great, I was worried they would mess something up (there's always *something* with these devices), but honestly the MMP is really well-rounded.
Russ. Big fan of yours. I have watched this channel for about a year and just realized you are the same Russ from your cookbooks and cooking blog. I loved all your recipes and use your books frequently. So glad to see you're doing well. Keep on keeping on.
Wow, thanks Babar! It's very rare that someone spots a connection between the two.
Thanks for the comprehensive review Russ.. Have pre-ordered the bigger brother to my Miyoo Mini today.
Thanks so much! I got it today and it’s shipping! Very excited for it.
*_The Miyoo Mini really was lightning in a bottle. R.I.P. Lil’ Guy…_*
I have since bought both the RG35XX, & the Mini+ was from your link today
Thank you!! 😁
Thx for the video. The better d pad sold me. Just ordered the grape purple one! Can't wait!
I'm finally getting mine in the next week or so. Rewatching this to remember and get familiar before hands on experience. Can't wait to play this along with TOTK.
Can't wait for a full comparison with 35xx, it's gonna be interesting
I feel like the 35xx might edge it out in power, but I am really excited to see.
@@TheMightyClark When it comes to these two, in terms of power it really doesn't matter. They both play up to PS1. If there is any more power, i mean what will you use that power for? to boot onlion os 1 sec faster? At the end of the day, they both run all the games up to PS1 the same, with fractional differences most likely.
I imagine it comes down to preference and custom firmware at the end of the day. Onion OS is likely more mature than the alternative, so that alone sells the Miyoo + for me.
With the current build of Garlic, the 35XX runs at 1.5 gHz without issues, so technically it's a little bit faster. It's pretty much the same thing with wifi, but then it's going to be harder to get and it's looking like about $10-15 more expensive.
@@Dalmatinac3 I mean I just saw Tekken 3 chugging on the Mini+ in this video. The 35XX at this point has been able to handle those more intensive titles with ease at stock clocks, and for anything that somehow slows it down, can boost the CPU to over 1ghz and play the whole PS1 library just fine.
So if someone were to want these handheld with PS1 in mind, there will be a tangible difference in terms of compatible games.
I loved that bump you put at the start of the Onion section, very groovy and well edited
Your reviews are always so fair! Ive been watching several other channels and sometimes the criticism of these devices seem to seep into niche personal preferences based on the person reviewing. You however, seem to bring the least bias review with going into deep dives which most people can follow. Overall, I greatly appreciate what you do!
PS best intro and autro tunes! 🎶
I absolutely agree with you. Russ is pretty much the only one who actually does reviews that are comprehensive, concise, balanced, fair, and objective (as far as possible). This is the only video review he was waiting for to make a decision.
I love Miyoo's stuff so far, they seem to actually know what's _really_ important in a small retro gaming device like this; but I've learned that I can't stand in-line shoulder buttons. The Miyoo Mini's inner shoulder buttons were practically unusable for me, but even the outer shoulder buttons were a real pain to use with the angle they were at. You had to essentially press forwards against the top half of the device while your grip naturally lies on the bottom half, and the device was too small for it's own weight to counter the force of you pressing the button, so it was super awkward. The Miyoo Mini Plus seems much better in that regard, since it looks like the shoulders are concave so you should be able to apply force more downwards towards your grip instead of forwards into the screen.
What I really wish is for Miyoo to make a similarly small horizontal device with stacked shoulders. Not sure how they'd pull off stacked shoulders while keeping the device thin-ish, but I can dream.
Pocket go (and 2) were close to that dream in terms of ergonomics and size, slightly bigger and more updated specs, and it would be possible. I still like my pocket go a lot...
PocketGo 1 had a near perfect form factor.
Thank you for doing the Contra D-pad test! Very useful info. Cheers!
The case was amazing. I love mine hands down. I paid more and they put every game on it and 40 ps1 games. I was impressed and still am.
Love your videos! I'll be waiting for the comparison video before picking one up. Hope you release it soon :)
excited to check this out, love your videos 🙌🏻
My RP3+ has been shipped and on it's way. My original Miyoo Mini broke when I dropped it :( and I loved it with the time I spent with it. Sigh, I'm tempted to get one of these as I found it worked really well with OnionOS. I'll hold out until your comparison of this and the RG35XX to fill my portrait handheld needs. Thanks for your dedication to this community. We'd be lost without ya, mate! (and where's, Chicken?!)
Great review! I'm in love with the 35xx running GarlicOS; using it since a month. Additionally, I'm in love with your perfect bard, handsome man
Kinda strange they wouldn't add a realtime clock, esp given the machine's wifi... Love that they fixed the backplate. Just bought the RG whatever, but I love retroachievements so I'm picking this up.
I literally waited to not buy the 35xx in case the mini had a RTC. Guess I’m getting the 35xx. I actually like the mini way more, but not having an rtc is a dealbreaker. I just want to play pokemon. The mini is a superior device though when it comes to quality.
@@bear532 Someone mentioned in a comment that RTC will work thru WiFi. Is that not actually the case?
Thank goodness. I tried to get one of these for my cousins last year and even though I purchased it, I didn't get any news on it until a month later.
GBA is one of my favorite systems to play, and this looks awesome for it. Hopefully I can get one sometime
great channel. i discovered it looking for steamdeck accessories and have now seen a number of your other videos and have found them very well put together . you earned my subscription. alas you're costing me money as i tend to want to buy everything you review. on my way to find a miyoo mini plus
Can't tell you how much I've been looking forward to this video.
can’t wait for the comparison video!
Thanks for the link Russ.
Great review.
I love how “well loved” your RG280V is. Looks like had some nice times.
pre-ordered this and patiently awaiting mine 🤗
Great video! I ordered the transparent black today.
I don’t comment much, but thank you for all your reviews. This is one where I quickly pulled the trigger for the price!
Ha this has been a fun saga to be apart of, thanks to you for the great videos
I finally got one last week and this is a seriously awesome device. Thanks for the info!
Hey, I wanna buy one did yours come with games already ?
@@kaihavertz_ depens if the seller sells them with, but a lot of them do. Still the games you get from those aliexpress sellers sometimes arent working or such. There are a plenty of game repos onoine i thino
I'm glad I saw this video! Ordered mine today.
I love how you used that music for the OnionOS bit!
I just bought the RG35XX and I LOVE IT !
I may pick up the Miyoo Mini + when the wifi achievements and competitive play become mature.
Thanks Russ! This is what I've been waiting for!
Finally i have been waiting all day for this review
LOL i saw the announcement last night that this would be uploaded at 10am est and that’s exactly why i’m on youtube right now 😅 really disappointed i couldn’t get a miyoo mini v2, but i’m curious about getting this one
I would've liked to see a size comparison to the GBA SP. A lot of people find the controls on the SP to be too cramped and I fear this would be similar. I'd like to see Miyoo make something more in the original GBA form-factor.
Russ, thank you for all you do for this niche but really passionate community. As a dad of 2 small kids I don't get a lot of time to console game anymore, so I think this checks all of the boxes for me. Now I can give my powkiddy v90 to my almost 3 year old and load it up with Disney games and not worry about him breaking it.
I wouldn't give a gaming console to a three years old but yeah
Yeah, was thinking the same. This is going to set up an addiction. Maybe with 10 or 12 years, ok. But THREE?? I don't think this is reasonable and healthy. @@leinsaat5779
Great, in-depth review. Hopefully will be getting this soon.
Loved the feel of the controls of the Miyoo Mini and I really liked Onion OS and it's quick save implementation. But, I always felt like I could just never feel comfortable with the small size, just wasn't for me.
This seems to be more of the same, just bigger, so this might be the one.
Was it?
Russ is amazing as always, thank you for the video!
I haven't tried a device yet, and saw this pop up recently and this seems like the most cost-beginner friendly type. I'll definitely try to get this!
AliExpress already preorder for $150...no comments
I’m glad that the Miyoo Mini plus is coming out. More choices are better for gamers. I’ll stick with my 35XX though, as it is quite awesome with garlic OS.
Garlic os sounds like a ripoff of onion os
That’s not an additional choice, though. We’ve lost the option of getting the smaller device, unless we’re willing to get an overpriced eBay resell.
@@bland9876 both os are made by the same person.
@@anbernicguy I've heard of people making parodies of their own stuff before.
I don't quite understand why he wouldn't just call it the same thing and just say oh it's available for both.
@@bland9876 exactly
Awesome! I was more excited for this video than the Miyoo Mini plus release
Thank you for everything you do!!
Bro I literally just got the rg35xx because it was a bigger miyoo mini and now they make a bigger miyoo mini! The timing!! I'm loving thr 35xx though getting my buddy to help me install garlic os on it so I imagine that'll just make it better
oooh, slick transition from the mini to the miniplus during the intro.
Already bought the pre-order of my black transparent miyoo mini plus! Thank you for the reviews. Miyoo mini is apparently too small for me. Despite small hand's size, it's unplayable longer than 30 minutes and i hope the 3.5 Inch screen will save my eyes and hands.
This looks like a great console! I might buy it! Great review! Thanks man!
Marketing wise, the name is perfect and a good idea to tie the 2 models together. They should have included the case too and upgraded the speaker, considering the widely available mod for the original mini.
Wonder if the speaker is the same and can use the same speaker to upgrade.
My aunt bought me one half a hour ago can’t wait for it to arrive 😊
Great breakdown of the device, this definitely helped.
OK, I scored a Miyoo mini a few years ago with the case (v2/v3) for $45 brand new. I love the device. Onion OS SHOULD be the reference STANDARD for portable device like this, it's just so perfect in every way. My flaws, the display is too small, and no wi-fi(retro achievements and moving games), this is a game changer for me on the mini thing. I used my Mini a lot, Softball games for kids, between innings or waiting for the game to start or just around the house. I always had this thing around.
I have a SteamDeck (too large to bring everywhere) and a RG353M (wanted more than PS1). I am thinking about selling my Mini, as they are going $175+ on ebay, and cashing out and buying the new one.... Even though I don't need it but, the pocketable 4:3 display is nice time to time on some games...
Besides size, the new Mini sounds like the dream replacement...
So you're one of those scalpers... awesome
@@Streetsupra88 Nope, I just don't use it any more as I have other devices. If I can make a profit, I'll take it just like anyone else.
Because of you, i purchased miyoo mini and i really like it. Because, at that time, i'm going for surgery on my right hand, so it's comfortable to use on 1 hand. I even decide to buy 1 more miyoo mini so i can swap micro sd from 1 to another if the first one battery depleted. Best decision. Thank you Russ.
Another great vid you’ve been killing it.
An update video on how the mini+ is handling would be nice. People seem to be having issues on control quality of the device. Screen falling out, artifacts, dead pixels, etc.
Awesome vid man great details thanks so much 🤘🏼
dood you look great in front of cam and its noticeable that you got comfortable with it, congrats on channel growth
Timely video. I was just looking at buying either this Miyoo Mini + or the Anbernic RG35XX. Both look great except Anbernic's does not have WiFi and is cheaper. It's kind of a tough decision overall but I think I might like this one better.
super excited to get mine! guess they will be shipping out in April from what they told me
Thank you so much for keeping us updated on this device, i think i locked a preorder in as far as I can tell but I guess well see what happens come march.
Can the mm+ push video out via usbc adapter ???
Just bought one right now. Now time for the waiting game. Had the miyoo mini but it was too small for my huge hands. Hopefully this one suits better 🎉
Thank you for the ace vid. Just brought this bad boy 😁
Do you know when you'll have the 35xx comparison out? Excited to see you opinion on them compared. I have a mini and might go up to one of those 2 for the larger screen.
Great video as always! Is the plus still not compatible with fast PD chargers? (Would be especially useful as it has a bigger battery)
I don't know how much you get from the affiliate link, but I figured it's the least I could do given all the content you give us Russ. Thanks!
Wow that false diagonal comparison was pretty stark!
I preordered my miyoo mini plus and even though I already have a miyoo mini v2, I’ll use the mini v2 when I go traveling or on breaks at work. The Mini Plus will be my go-to handheld for at home play. The build quality is so high that I think the price point for both of them is justified. I think if a person knows how to solder, these devices can last a very very long time. They have replacement buttons and it’s highly moddable.
What are the differences between Mini Plus and Mini v2?
Thanks Russ I pre ordered mine!
Looks nice but I’ve had the 35xx for more than a month now and I love it! As a matter of fact, I ended up buying a second unit.
just a question as im not that familiar with these type of things, but what is the point in getting a second one if your current one is fine?
@@realinfernus Dual wielding.
Is there any way to emulate a network for multi-player games?
I’m torn between getting the 35xx or this mini plus
@@dino91001me too
I got the Black and the White. Love the color buttons and both have the red and black MM+ cases along with black and beige silicon covers. I'm a big fan. Onion OS is the way.
Any thoughts on the lack of cpu upgrade? It’s been several years since the miyoo mini release so shouldn’t prices allow for a better cpu?
I'm a little bummed they replaced the volume wheel with buttons. But I'm also glad that many of the mods from the mini still work. Can you upgrade the speaker using the same upgrades available for the mini?
I NEED IT, lol I was really fighting myself about the rg35xx. I’m so glad I waited
Great stuff, I just received a 35xx that I ordered before I knew about the MM+ , just my luck. I will stick with it for now.
Great review. That wi-fi surely sounds appealing.
Your vids are awesome man, thank you
I've really enjoyed this review! Out of all the awesome portrait handhelds displayed here, I still prefer my Wood Grain ANBERNIC RG351V. Though, I like them all. They are all great choices. The Miyoo Minis have that battery compartment door feature that's a very convenient feature for swapping out a bad battery. I do wish that ANBERNIC and Powkiddy devices had the battery compartment door feature.
Powkiddy v90 has a removable battery. It is a super low powered device, but it will eat up some gb games. Great for those and some light SNES. Its not a great device, but it's solid, pocketable and alot of fun if you don't think you are going to play PS1 on it.
@@jacobnobles8453 Thank You! The V90 is the other handheld that has the battery compartment door. I forgot all about it. I still have my black V90.
Did no get early pre order but I still went to order.
This is my first retro handheld .
Been using psp .
Looking forward to onion firmware which is main reason I went for this device
So I've been thinking about trying to get the mini V2 for a long time, but this Plus seems much better for me.
Only hesitation on my part is not having Bluetooth for headphones as I don't want to go back to wired ones and don't want to be blasting out sound off the speaker when on the go, commuting etc ...what's everyone's take on this? Do you just play without sound when on the go?
Looking forward to that comparison video
What “softshell case” are you referring to in 3:20? So I preordered my Miyoo Mini+ along with a “bag” option. Isn’t that going to be similar to the one that came with the Miyoo Mini? Per the OG Miyoo Mini’s description, it says it came with a “Free protective carrying bag.” Pretty sure that’s the “softshell case,” right?
Great video as always dude, liked the newer edits you've been doing for transitions.
Unrelated, but in the final shot, theres what looks like a ps vita off to the left. whats it attached to?
Looking forward to the in depth Comparison video. Ihave the rg35xx and have liked it a lot so far. I am still considering miyoo + the main draw being a potentially better d-pad and better battery. I get maybe a little more than 3 hours on rg35xx which is not great. Main concern with miyoo + is ps1 performance. It's hard to believe it can be as good with dual core and half the ram. I didn't buy rg35xx for ps1 but that is actually what I have played the most on it.
"The Miyoo Mini era is now over"
This statement made me very sad :(
I feel very lucky to have managed to get my hands on one at a reasonable price; it's easily the most incredible small handheld that's ever been made and I really hope that someone can fill that market niche again with another amazing product!
Have you spoken with the onion team on them trying to get retro achievements configured in there?
Also I have the mini V1 and the dpad is quite squeaky, has this been fixed since then including this device?
I bought my Miyoo Mini Plus recently, and i absolutely love this device. It's very pocketable, and you'll be doing lots of gaming with it if you have it with you. Absolutely get Onion on this device.
I'm not normally crazy about most of these kinds of retro units to be totally honest, but the possibility of RetroAchievements and the atomic purple style is totally a selling point for me.
after trying out retroachievements on my steam deck i cant play any retro games without it lol
@@Evan-ru6ro as someone who has 0 idea what you are talking about. I do know what regular achievements are (unlike Nintendo who end up doing it better.)
@@bland9876 retroachievements is a website/database that basically has scoured the code of thousands of retro games that allow them to have an achievement system. Not all games have them, but the majority of the games you played as a kid have a good chance of having achievements via the website.

On my shopping list, now!
I know we've all got smart phones now but man, having one of these around for a road trip would be awesome.
Comfy buttons vs zero tacticle just tapping on a glass panel? Smart phones don't even compare.
The trimui smart is an excellent small device that already has retro achievements. It’s so underrated.
Great review. Any idea if the software allows cheatcodes to be uploaded? For example if i want to play final fantasy 7 but with unlimited hp, etc?
Well, I ordered one. It should come in about a month. This is my first time getting into this sort of thing, so I'm kind of excited. I'd love to hear more about the wifi features, especially the whole retro achievements thing.
Same here. Pretty excited!
may i ask how long is the loading time when you select a game before it completly launches?
As well as start up the handheld, how long does it take to boot up with onion os?
I own an original miyoo Mini and a 353v, it kinda cover it all to me ..but I'm happy to know there's also such a cool option
Hey Russ, quick question. What size gb miyoo plus do you suggest buying?
Thanks for all your work. You’re now my most watched channel.
Got a steam deck, modded 2 vitas and buying a miyoo cuz of you.
Wish to get a GPD WIN 4 but may wait to see who else is or how GPD is gonna mimic the great vita next.
I think the answer is almost always the cheaper option when it comes to the included memory card because it's not the memory card you'll want to use. It's crazy how often I watch his channel to considering I didn't have any retro game devices 4 months ago lol
Just ordered mine😊
