When I was a kid my mom would drag me along to help teach Somali refugees conversational english and occasionally we would visit their homes and try their food. Over a decade later I remember those people as being some of the kindest people I have ever met. So full of joy and compassion, they are really a reminder of why it is important to help communities in need no matter where they come from.

There's a large Somali community in the UK. Where I live (Sheffield) they are really nice, a bus driver was being a dick once and made me pay full fare (instead of student fare) and I didn't have enough. Long story short, a Somali woman behind me paid for me and said that I was the same age as her son, and she would want someone to do that for her kids. They may seem reserved at times, but they are an Amazing group of people :)

They served a hug palette of vegetarian and a palette of meat dishes. Had to eat with our hands and it was very good! I actually liked the vegan dish a lot. The Somali food looks great as well and eager to try it if I can fine one in my area. Thanks for increasing our awareness!

+Damascus Steele I'm half Ethiopian on my mother's side and half New Zealand European on my father's side. My mother was one of the first Ethiopian's in the country and became an Amharic interpreter as large Ethiopian community had developed in Auckland, New Zealand. Because of my mother's occupation it has enabled her to be extremely close with the Ethiopian community and I have had the privilege to be exposed to the wonderful cuisine my entire life. I absolutely love it! There are no Ethopian restaurants here so a lot of the people here know nothing about the cuisine, so I am so delighted to see when people from other cultures have tried the Ethiopian dishes I have grown to love! My entire childhood I was convinced nobody appreciated the culture as much as I did; so it makes me so happy to see comments from people like you and buzzfeed videos of people enjoying the cuisine!

We can make a new flag and call ourself greater somalia.
We can make our new capital Las Canod! - the place were puntland and somaliland fight over.

La ilaha illah, you are making fun of a "somali" which is in your own countries name "somali-land"?
You support a government which is based upon qabil which is so backwards and you dislike the idea of unity?
We are not like pakistan and india. We share the same language, culture and ancestors.
Galada wants us to divide so it is easier for them to invade in the near future.
Your not thinking about the greatness, your only being prideful.
Imagine if somaliland, puntland, jubbaland, ogaden, etc, all chose a president and prime minister, then there would be another supreme government were these leaders would then be nominated to be emperor of Greater Somalia.
look at US and UK. Mortal enemies have unites to form a super force.
But no... qabil-ist like you are holding us back. Down with qabil-ism. Up with unity.
Maybe one day horn of africa will be like the EU and have same currency and passport.

Then, another time a fellow African American was leaving with their food when the Somali brother said "hey, you forgot your banana!" The brother was so happy and said "wow, y'all give us fruit too?" I then explained what the banana was for. Now I can't eat the food without one. And it's good for digestion.

Your comment about food is pro and legit, not like other videos where they just like, OMG! it tastes so good, OMG! and just start looping from there, good job on actually describing the food as it is. Also, respect for eating with your hand. It is not disgusting, it is trying authentic food with authentic method. Deliciousness is not important, strange food from other culture doesn't always taste good if you haven't learnt how to appreciate them, trying something new, learn something interesting about other culture is the most important part.

To Mr. Inda yar (small eyes). Somalis usually give nick names that are descriptive and most of the time they usually go for someone’s handicap but it is given with lots of love, no harm intended and in your case, small eyes is not viewed as a handicap or negative but a term of endearment reserved for a friendly foreigner. I had a feeling that you were well liked by everyone in the video even though they were not able to express it due to I think language limitations. If I am not mistaken there is no word in somali for Asian and they refer to Asians as "small eyes or straight hair@ because it was a way for them to identify this ethnic group. Although they also refer to other black or african people as "charcoal"...but that is a different debate

The Somali version of injera looks a lot like dosa, a Southern Indian savory crepe like dish.

Not sure of India but we definitely have ties with Iranians. There's even persian tribes in Somalia called benadiri

no indians have very soft hair and are visible much shorter than average Somali, but you have the odd Somali who looks indian and vice versa, also Indians are hundreds times more numerous than Somalis they are 1 billion while Somalis are not even 20 million
