Adam is the ONLY ONE who received a standing ovation from Simon during the entire run of the American Idol shows. Simon was a tough judge to please. This was Adam's beautiful masterpiece and he proved what an amazing talent he possessed!

This was and still remains, the BEST performance by any contestant, or any artist for that matter, on American Idol. The show has never been as exciting as it was season 8, before or after, and that was mainly because of Adam Lambert. I keep hoping another contestant will come along that will WOW me consistently, week after week, as Adam did S8. Hasn't happened yet. I don't think it ever will.

I only paid attention to Idol at all BECAUSE of Adam. I happened to catch this live as my parents were watching and I watched some of the rest of the season because I was rooting for him after that performance. Hell, Simon Cowell (who I HATE, his only good performance was in Scary Movie 3 where he pissed off the rappers and they killed him) loved him and that's saying something. I read that even Kris said he should've won. I haven't heard a single thing about Kris since Idol but Adam did the soundtrack for 2012 (GREAT movie) and I heard he's going on tour with KISS though I don't know about that last one.

As to Kris, he's got 3rd album coming up and is doing quite well. He's not after huge popstar career though so you have to be a real fan to stay updated.
Adam on the other hand had the potential to be huge like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry etc but something went wrong. His first album prolonged American Idol phenomenon and he was the first contestant to have worldwide tour right after the competition but then it suddenly ended... Maybe it's because it took them almost 2 years to complete the second album and people lost interest. I dunno.
I still hope Queen+Adam Lambert tour is somehow going to ressurect his career or maybe pushes him into more rock/funky genre. Crappy pop doesn't do it for him. At this point I think they should focus more on the fanbase rather than everybody who listens to the radio. You never know what's gonna be popular so maybe it's better to focus on the fans and hope for the best.

choomikx3 i'm not sure what you mean by "resurrect his career" ...he's one of the most successful contestants on American Idol; He's was on another world tour last year, his singles are always chart hits, and now he's working on his third studio Album.

The most amazing phenomenal voice ever to come out of Idol. He conquered that show. Never watched it one time after Adam. But he’s had a very, very successful career and has been touring with Queen all over the world. Sold out concerts everywhere, as well as quite a successful solo career and very well deserved. He has the most exceptional voice of this generation, unrivaled by anyone.
I think Adam is one of the best singers I have ever heard. Just found out he was born on my birthday. Love you Adam, you are Amazing.

Adriana Knox I think every woman in America fell in love with Adam and didn’t care that he was gay. Adam’s voice gives me chills to this day. I saw him standing room only 6 feet away from me at the Paramount and I just stood there like I was seeing God. I am unable to move or breathe when he sings. A voice of an angel, sex appeal through the roof, eyes that are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, and a smile to die for. He’s perfect. Should’ve won Idol but so happy he is the star he deserves to be now. ❤️❤️😍😍
Pilar Kniv me too! As soon as he auditioned, I was drawn to him and couldn’t wait to see him every show. Something about his smile, how humble he was, and of course his voice unlike anything EVER on American Idol. Best singer in Hollywood hands down!
The way he conveyed the emotion at 1:38-1:41 was just unbelievable, and pretty much perfect emotion throughout the entire song. Truly the best to have ever appeared on the Idol stage.

Every time I watch this I get something new out of it. The use of lighting, colors, and props, for one thing. The way he's sitting on the chair makes it looks like he's floating just above the stage, nothing supporting him, no legs to stand on. Then he finds his legs and it's pure magic.

This is one of the most hauntingly beautiful, sorrowful melodies I have ever heard. Adam Lambert sings it in a way that almost defies description. It is genius. It is magical, and takes you to another place. So many goosebumps! Such a talent. None of the other covers of this song can compete, in my opinion.
I remember watching this with my mom when I was a kid. This was the most hype episode of the entire show. Never watched it after this season. No one could top it
...my favorite song by Adam Lambert ever. Just heard it on The Voice by Taylor and Adam's version is still the best! Fun to see this again and remind me of his incredible talent. Thanks for posting this. Memories....

Never heard of Adam Lambert until I heard him singing with Queen on the Brit X factor last week. I am really impressed his voice great. Not many singers can sing a Freddie tune he did it really well. THe live concerts he is doing with Queen will be sold out for sure!!
Everytime I listen to Adam sing "Mad World" I am moved to tears.
I watched his first ever performance of this song on American Idol. I remember it as if it was yesterday. It was the last performance of the night. The setting was incredible and matched the intensity of the song. As soon as he started singing I had chills til the end. I also remember because time had run out, Simon simply stood up and gave him a standing ovation, of which he never does. I had recorded it and watched it maybe 20-30 times for the next hour I was that overwhelmed by the performance. I also remember the next day surfing the web and millions of people had missed it because they were not home (working, out to dinner, etc.) and their recording time had ended before the performance! It was amazing to see plea post after plea post as to how they could find a website where they could see it! To me it was the greatest performance of all time on American Idol.

Adam Lambert told his fans not to vote for him because he didn't want to be stuck in the God awful Idol recording contract for the following year. Would be the same one that almost made Kelly Clarkson quit the music industry

Kris allen was a good singer. He had a nice voice and was pretty good too, yet he had no personality or stage presence. The man was like a statue only emitting sound, he had very little charisma and confidence, and although he was good, Adam outweighed him in all of these. In terms of singing, he had a much wider range, a better voice (in my opinion), a better technique and a hell lot of better control and flexibility. And on top of that he is a showman, he interacts with the audience and fills the stage. Him not winning is just bullsh*t. Yet there is the Idol deal too, so it was probably better for him to have ended up as a runner-up
What a gift he has! And you never hear stories of him wasting it on drugs like others with a voice of an angel

My heart was in my hands when he sang this. Every Idol night, I didn't know what to do when it's Adam's turn to sing..now he's a superstar. And success didn't spoil him; he is still the wonderful, sweetheart of a guy. Love you so much Adam.

There are maybe a handful non-opera-countertenors IN THE WORLD who can do a falsetto like that. This is incredible on so many musical levels.

Your mistake was in daring to thing the producers would've let someone like Adam Lambert win. He was hands down the best vocalist, but doesn't quite fit the "all American boy/girl" that Idol loves. Even if he had've somehow won, they would never have let him come out with "For Your Entertainment".

I love coming back and watching this periodically, now in March 2020. Hard to believe it, but Adam is a better singer now than he was then, and I thought he was the best Idol had ever had on the show.
I was so moved when I first heard this. Years later, I am still moved and amazed by this young man's voice....the emotions it conveys. So grateful.
