My wife and her friend decided to spend their afternoon at a movie theatre in Paramus, NJ. This was in the early 80s and the movie was "The Color of Money". It was actually a test audience run of the film but my wife wasn't aware of it at the time. Well they sat in the rear of the theatre and noticed that the very last row of seats was roped off. They thought it odd but didn't give it a second thought. They enjoyed the film and so did the audience. As the lights came on after the end of the film they got up to leave the venue and lo and behold there was Paul Newman and Tom Cruise sitting right behind them ! Back in those days an audience live preview before general theatre release was oftentimes done for last-minute editing hinging on the audience response. My wife asked for Paul Newman's autograph and true to his reputation Paul refused but did offer to shake my wife's hand which of course she agreed to. By the way she didn't recognize Cruise at the time since he was hardly known at the time and apparently he's non-descript in real life, a very short guy.
This just blew my mind. Read both the books, a pool nut, and historian of the game somewhat. Had no idea that he wrote the book the biggest series’s going right now is based off of. Have to watch it now.

Color of money is probably my all time favorite film. I didn't get it the first few times i watched it. But when you begin to study it it's fantastic. The characters is what it's all about. Not so much the reality of the darkness of The hustler. The cinematography the soundtrack. The road trip and all the one liners are classic. Each character is someone you know if you spend time playing pool in room for long enough. The road trip they take really takes you through upstate New York area with its brutal winters, finally ending up in Atlantic City for the tournament. Every time you watch it you'll see or hear something you missed from previous viewing. Kind of like a great music album. Highly recommend it. A great escape into the world of pool in the 80s Not a date night film. Watch alone without the girlfriend to really absorb
Exactly Mike. Good analogy and description. Great movie. Pool was my life for about 15 years. Made some nice green for years. Bought my first house at 21 years old with cash from bar room games. Too much fun dude. Gonna have to watch the movie again soon.

I think pool is for talking and laughing A LOT with a little beer in between.
I only sank the 8 on the break once and I've played an embarrassing amount of pool.
Color of money is a classic, Cruise has a filmography better than almost anyone.
Me and my dad recently watched this movie 2 weeks ago. Strange they ended up talking about here 👌🏾👍🏾
I got to see Pagulayan and Bustamante battle it out in 9-ball almost an arms reach away. Frickin amazing.
I’ve run a few racks of 9 ball but wouldn’t ever tell people I’m good at pool. They can find that out on their own.
9 ball sucked me in my entire enlistment. I was never in my dorm. I lived in bar haha.
Joe needs to have some real pool pro’s as guests
Earl Strickland!
Yeah because that would make for an amazing 3 hour conversation. lol
@@RoCkShaDoWWaLkEr yeah just like a podcast with a fighter that gets their head pounded for a living couldnt possibly contain a good conversation. Right?

Remember when we could watch the whole episode on youtube?
end of an era...
Joe: Don't talk to me about Bingo.
Joe Rogan on The Color of Albinos
"Jamie, pull up a picture of an Albino person. I've never actually seen one myself....
Wowwww this is fascinating!"
I'd love to play Rogan. Great game with great convo. Nothing beats that.
Dude I want the whole podcast back, I dont have the space on my phone for Spotify, I like listening to the whole thing. Not short excerpts. Love you Joe, please start downloading the whole podcast to CZcams please!! Its so much easier for me, plus i like watching the expressions and the emotions behind who ever is talking. Its easy to misconstrued conversations without seeing emotions..
You on a Nokia 3310 or something?
I was waiting for someone to have a smart-ass comment. No I use my phone for a lot of my outdoor adventures. Most of the space on my phone is used for the apps I need for hunting, fishing and few other things. Some of us in the real world don't have the brand new phones with all the bells and whistles, nor can we afford them. You can take your precious comment an shove it up your ass.

use an obscure country. popular ip's will get blocked
My life has not been the same . I love Spotify but for my music only. I loved watching Joe on CZcams for seeing his facial expressions and I also just like to watch the interviews. They are so funny and exciting to watch. Joe, break away from the devil.
shelbyyyy
Anyone else stopped watching since the switch?? Been watching since day one and now it’s like a complete memory like he isn’t even around anymore
my buddy used to brag he was a "bar room" athlete. Good at pool, darts and drinking beer.

I have a feeling Joe plays every sport to the death
Me and a few of my co-workers back in the day got obsessed with ping pong. Had a table at work and we were staying 3 hours a day extra after work just to play ping pong
What i like about youtube is that they recommend other JRE clips once you finish one clip. On Spotify you can only see all the clips sorted by newest/most viewed and it doesnt recommend any of the good older ones
What I like about youtube is that it doesn't have to be closed in order for spotify to be open
I have to say, I miss the hours long videos. When I having really bad anxiety and depression, those videos helped me forget about my problems and would make them go away for then rest of the day. I loved seeing the expressions, and the emotions. I hope that you can bring them back soon.
Just get the Spotify app. It’s free. They have the long show

Kinda funny that Walter Tevis wrote both The Hustler and Queen’s Gambit
And they are trash like he is. Don’t mean to be disrespectful, just commentary on his whack novelas.

Sooooo, when are we gonna start getting the full videos? Because you're currently splitting your entire audience and it's showing

Spotify paid Joe $100,000,000 to make the move. His show can fail over there, he doesn't care he's still gonna make out with all that money!
Love your vids guys 👌🏻
Spot on joe. I live the pool life. buildin cues, playing for years. Been so obcessed over pool for years, since I was 14. I'm 52 now. Play almost eveyday of my life.
I thought we were going to be able to watch all podcasts for free on Spotify. I only see 15. Sorry Joe, Very Disappointed. pq
You have to look up his actual channel under “the Joe Rogan experience” then you sort all episodes and every single one he’s done will pop up and you can scroll up and down through them. Hope that helps.... still sucks compared to CZcams though!

goin to the pool hall when this movie came out, there was waiting lists to play
