The efforts of Sanskriti deserves all appreciations. Both the forms of Indian Music have been originated from the same root. In southern part of India Karnatic Music binds everyone together. Many of the Shastrakaras were from Karnataka the lyrics were popularly in Telugu Musicians from Tamilnadu nurtured it and Scholars from Kerala gave their contributions. Now it’s popular everywhere without considering any barriers. Our Pranams to Sri Purandara Dasa who laid a good foundation and all the vaggeyakaras especially The Trimurtees and all the great Musicians who are involved in continuing the traditions with the help of Rasikas. My salutations to your entire team specially to Panditjee.
This Program is awesome... Your magnificent efforts makes this program memmorable... Dr Date n Milimd Bhavu both of you are presenting it splendidly... Dr. Date your Hindi sounds very nice 💯 majey khhooch chan... Milind is a trained singer... Pt. Bhat is a deciple of Saksat Ganagandharva... Pt. BSJ... Pt.
With all due respect to Upendra Ji Bhat, Carnatic Sangeet " Pitamaha" is the great Sage " Purandara dasa" from Karnataka and the one who structured and formulated the basic lessons of teaching Carnatic music by structuring graded exercises known as Svaravalis and Alankaras.Thyagaraj himself praised Purandara dasa in many of his compositions. Saying Carnatic music has nothing to do with Karnataka is absolutely wrong. And also I see many people here refer Carnatic ( Carna=ears) means - soothing to ears which is not correct. During 11- 16th Century the major parts of Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Kerala, Andhra pradesh and also few parts of Maharashtra were considered as Carnatic region and the music originated there was known as Carnatic music.
You are absolutely right. Purandaradasa is held in the highest regard as the one who laid the foundation of Karnatic music. He chose Maya Malava Goula as the raga in which the music should be taught.
Absolutely right . . Bit taken back the way of his comparison on state wise distribution and popularity of Carnatic music . . It's as good as designating Carnatic as south Indian music . . Which is not correct . . It's Indian music which didn't get affected by urdu langauge.

Good program 👌👍. But one point to be noted: There's a deep historical connection of Karnataki music with Karnataka/Kannadigas. 'Purandara Dasa' was a Kannadiga and is known as 'Karnataka Sangeetha Pitamaha' (Father of Carnatic music). Though it's true that in today's time the music is more prevalent in Andhra-Telangana and mainly Tamil Nadu.
I would like to thank the entire team of Sanskriti: you offer invaluable music education through easy-to-format and the presentation reflects politeness and humility. The interesting, interactive and informative program takes a lot of time, knowledge and commitment which this program shows. Pronam from Philadelphia, USA.
Dr Nandita Dutt is introducing Guru Upendra Bhat it is the Guru Shiskhya parampara which is best in classical music culture it is very lovely to enjoying
Vaataapi Ganapatim Bhaje ..was mentioned, which is Dikshitaar's. That great musician Bhakti, who seems to have compsed ONLY in Sanskrit, did make the perilous Jouney to Varanaasi and as a result Northen and Southern ragas got mingled. WHAT A TREAT WE HAVE today listening to all ragas in both classical style plus Filmy!
Fantastic efforts of Sanskriti Team to introduce various classical raagas to the music lovers. You are able to bring stalwarts like Upendra Ji Bhat and others to explain the intricacies of Raag to music lovers. Efforts taken by Mukund Ji and Nandita Ji are great and invaluable. I am shocked and pained to see a few hundred “thumbs down” comments which do not do any justice to the tremendous efforts taken by the Team. Of course it is individual choice but these are my true feelings. Many thanks to the Team
Very informative and enjoyable presentation by panditji. The more i hear the series of presentations i am becoming a fan of not only the programs but also the presenters who are doing a tremendous job. Thanks for all the perticipants.
Your educative videos really go to the heart. Basic characteristics of ragas are explained very elegantly to the common man with practical examples. Your group is doing a great service to Indian music
Shri Purandaradas is considered to be "Pitamaha" of Karnatic Sangeet. How you are ignoring this fact Upendraji ?. This itself proves about the origin of this Sangeet parampara. It is true that this system of singing is more prevalent in TN, AP and Kerala. Please note this sir..

What a beautiful episode! happy and surprised to know mukund ji is a disciple of hridaynath ji and it brought tears in my eyes as I have always adored this song sung by none other than our beloved Lata ji
The video is very pleasing. I have enjoyed watching it. But, I have a humble submission. At 5.0 minutes, Sri Upendraji Bhat says that the name Karnatak Sangeet has nothing to do with Karnataka State and is more prevalent in TN and Andhra Pradesh. To a limited extent this is correct- Karnatak Sangeet is practised only in southern part of the State. In northern part of Karnataka, Hindustani music is prevalent. The name Karnatak Sangeet came to this system of Music because of Sri Purandara Dasa a highly acclaimed Haridasa or vaishnavait saint of 15-16th century. He substantially gave the present form to Karnatak Music. The basic lessons of Karnatak music set by him are followed even today (after more than five centuries) in all places where Karnatak music is taught. He is referred to as Karnataka Sangeeta Pitamah. Venkatamakhi and Mutuswamy Dikshitar are two other great people who gave present form to Karnatak music. What I have stated here can be verified from any basic text book of Karnatak Music.🙏🏼
Tayagaraja came years after purandaradasa. Purandaradasa was known known as pitamaha of Carnatic music, and he was from karnataka and I wishhe did little more research before he made this video. Most famous song in this raga is Catalina ganaptim baje by muttuswami dixitar.
Now a days names of states are based on different meanings. Tamilnadu, Karnataka is based on linguistic, andhrapradesh is based on race etc. Actually, Karnataka derived from 2 words, Karna + Ata means melody to ears, derived for south indian music, many centuries before formation of the state, Karnataka. As far as concerned with saint Purandaradasa, indian music is exists many centuries before him too. For example, Annamacharya is 70 years older than him. Kaya deva, few centuries before. Who first invented the title of Karnataka sangeetha pithamaha, is only useful for competitive exams as a GK bit, but not in actual. Our country's arts and culture is more ancient than you think.
If you are introducing hamsadwani, I am surprised that no mention is made of Shri Muthuswami Dikshitar. He is the first composer to really bring this raag out, with the most well known composition in this raag, vAtApi gaNapathIm, which is what most Hindustani musicians tend to present in one form or the other, although there are many other Carnatic compositions in this raag.
Mentioning names is not important. What is important is contribution to enrich the Sanatan culture. There have been thousands of Rishis and composers who have made stellar contribution and their names have been obliterated over time leaving their work for generations to enrich their own lives. We too listen to these compositions, enjoy, make our lives fulfilling and someday we too will pass away only with the hope that the generations to come will follow the footsteps and keep on adding and enriching our culture. Names really don't matter
I can't appreciate more of your program. I'm foreign hindustani music student and can't understand single hindi, but the demonstrations are so clear and beautifully sung, I can easily understand. Please have more programs like this!
