This time, USA are not the best team they have compared to previous world cups. Maybe old players. They nearly knocked out at group stage by Portugal. Both teams were too nervous on this penalty shootout after a few shots taken gone wide and above the post. Can see both players were not kicking the ball hard enough with speed and too much control on the trajectory/direction of shot rather than the pace. Too slow like lob the ball and not taking the real shot. Funny. BTW, Sweden GK was brilliant in the first 120 minutes. TBH.. I really doubt with the goal line technology on this Hurtig final penalty kick. Is it really that fine margin? 0.000001 inches? Can't argue. It was decided. Anyway, congrats to Sweden. I recorded them , at the time they were played , and watched every 2023 wwc game. But that was on my tv and they have all been deleted. You could try searching you tube. Apart from that , i dont know. Fifa maybe, from their website. Or the tv company that showed them originally. The BBC / ITV have a back up / on demand section , but i havent looked there. @@jorgennilsson4168 They could make the goal wider, maybe by a couple feet, which would result in more scoring, but that suggestion was nixed by the Europeans several years ago. So apparently until something else comes up we're stuck with cautious play in finals resulting in more draws with tedious shoot-outs to follow.

In the 80s and 90s when I played...I made it to Canadian juniors level, and the ONLY RULE WAS YOU NEVER LET THE GAME BE DECIDE BY A REF OR PENALTY KICKS..All or nothing, leave with a completly empty tank or you didnt play at all..we were coached to win, no weakness..and we grew up men...now a days too many games end in penalty kicks, which means neither team was hungry enough...no crying in baseball, no weakness in soccer...
So many shot misses...I wonder whether they have trained penalty shootouts or not. I had never seen such dramatic Penalty shootouts either in men's or women's World Cup.
The misses are generally due to nerves. Penalties are easy in practice with nothing to win or lose but they are much harder to execute in a championship.
The wide angles, makes me think they’re super nervous and thrumming with adrenaline… thus kicking harder than they expect to… sometimes it happens, you think you’ve got it under control
Trust me taking a penalty in the angle of millions of viewers and thousands of spectators is not easy. You will have to be confident to take it. If you dont have the mental storage to take the penalty, you will miss. Because when you take it, you will force yourself to strike powerfully or at the very side of the goal. And thats the blunder. Thats why if you choose a penalty taker, never always go for forwards. Because often they miss out of anxiety and stress. Always ask if theyre ok or not to take it beforehand and analyse their movements and body language.
