Silicate Minerals

Minerals are the foundation of geology. Minerals are built from elements and combine to forms rocks. This video discusses the formation, chemical composition and varying structural types of silicate minerals. It begins with a base of silicon and oxygen as a tetrahedron and develops into chains, 3D shapes and sheets.

Tetrahedron silicates are not connected by O-O bond, they share an Oxygen atom. And also Octa means 8 not 6. Sorosilicates are not octhedrons, they share one oxygen, with the chemical formula Si2O7(-6)
