The story takes us to Pioppi (Population 190), the tiny fishing village 2 hours south of Naples, officially recognised by UNESCO as the home of the Mediterranean Diet. In the 1960s, this remote Italian village was an unlikely epicentre of global nutritional research. It was from here that the iconic American scientist Ancel Keys would live and work amongst local residents, laying the foundations for a modern interpretation of the traditional Mediterranean Diet. No region - or era - has had a greater impact on global nutritional policies, but closer inspection reveals that much of the magic may have been lost in translation.

Pity that a large proportion of Olive Oil on the market is adulterated by other cheap PUFA oils that cause inflammation.

Suz Cost sadly far too late for millions of people who have spent half a lifetime struggling to lose weight, or even stay healthy, on the appalling healthy food mantra of the entire western world.
Lynne Gill indeed. Unfortunately there's a very active school of thought apparently determined to keep the errors present as doctrine. Nina Teicholz said that she asked Dr. Walter Willett why he suppressed the information from Keys' notebooks that his Cretan shepherds drank at least one cup of goat milk daily. Willett replied that he knows that saturated fat is unhealthy and releasing this information would encourage people to consume dairy products!
I think lack of stress is probably more their secret.
If your country doesnt have olive trees your body might take more to clarified butter, or ghee, it is also really good for you if you can make it from organic grass fed cows who are looked after properly…
Not the same fat makeup at all.
There is no one Mediterranean diet,there are parts of Greece where the locals do not use olive oil,they prefer butter,or lard for cooking

Ghee is a good alternative, for eg the UK doesnt have olive trees but you can still find organic grass fed cows milk to make ghee or as we would have called it, clarified butter

This title is very misleading. It barely touches on the lost secrets. I am so tired of terms like "high" fat. What consitutes high fat and what kind of fat? Also, the Mediterranean diet is NOT 'universally" accepted for longevity. Apparently this guy knows nothing about keto-definitely high fat, and even carnivore claims and even some supporting evidence for benefit from them. I am so glad to hear one of the speakers start with vegetables as the first food in the protocol. Yet contemporary Mediterranean restaurants offer little variety of vegetable dishes. When I traveled in Italy and Frane, if there was any food people left on their plates in restaurants, it was the vegetables. He also neglects to say that not all olive oil is "medicinal." It must have a peppery taste/feel in order to contain the most essential element of its value. I was intrigued by the title that appeared when they were talking about a manuscript that Ancel Keyes could not get published. Low carb? Mediterranean? What would be the proportion?

Smoke is antibacterial and kills any infection in the lungs and blood. High nicotine can also be helpful for keeping your mouth free of germs.

I find the Greek Mediterranean diet better because Italians eat too much pasta!! From refined wheat, now imported from Canada and USA. I lived in Naples ( island of Ischia) for 25 years, amazing healthy food but way to much pasta and bread. In the 60's the Italians were the most obese people in southern Europe.
But the most obese does not mean that a lot of them were obese. Since obesity was extremely low in Europe in the 60's.
No matter what diet we will die, so enjoy the pasta, the potatoes, the cake, the steak, the cheese, the pizza etc
I'd rather not die sooner if I can control some factors to allow me to live a quality longer life. You can live a short painful life if you like. I wouldn't wish it on you though.
Our cell membranes need to maintain their fluidity, and too much of olive oil affects the fluidity of the cell membrane. Why does Malhotra ignore this fact?

Oil is a processed food,while olives themselves can be good for you,the oil is not,
you right oil is adulturated
Yes, so never wash your food, never cut it, basically just swallow it whole to avoid any harmful effects of processing. Good luck with that watermelon.

Michael Riess I didnt say use butter,I just pointed out there are Greek people who use other fats besides oil,yes there's a difference between fats that are solid and one's that are liquid,solid fats being healthier.
