Today's session underscored the importance of honing fine motor skills, as the ability to execute the fundamental skills under pressure is crucial. While basic skills provide a foundation, refining them through the development of fine motor skills is paramount.
During the warm-up, issues with straightness emerged-lacking alignment on approach and landing, affecting our jumping performance. Negotiating turns posed another challenge, particularly in utilising my inside leg to outside rein aids while maintaining a lifted inside rein for balance.
Not only that I was forgetting to keep my focus on key directives-such as looking up and through, committing to the jump with consistent leg support, and holding a tall posture with soft allowing hands. Strategies like employing leg yields to maintain straightness and connection into the hand were put into action.
While progress may feel incremental, mastering these basics now prevents potential setbacks when confronting higher fences, safeguarding both rider and horse confidence.
Despite today's setbacks, the session served as a valuable learning experience, emphasising problem-solving and the importance of implementing solutions in real-time-a skill essential for navigating future challenges with proficiency.
