- Removing our broken original DC panel and replace it with the Blue Sea Systems 8264 DC Panel. We have found countless problems with our DC wiring and with multiple previous owners and multiple changes of equipment over the years its hard to know what's new, what's old and which wires have poor connections. This DC panel replacement with the Blue Sea DC panel is long over due.

I absolutely love the positive message at the end! Never be afraid to try!!
I'm about to do the same on my boat, some amazing tips and ideas have been got from this video alone!! It's a smaller 27ft boat so the DC panel is a lot simpler but it's an absolute birds nest behind there. Last time I stuck my hand in to follow wires 3 black (hopefully all negative) wires popped out of the clamps! My favourite saying is "when you are on your death bed you will not regret anything you did, only regrets will be the things you did not do"
My wife says if it’s broken already what do you have to loose!. My wife is very supportive when it comes to bits of the boat that I am not so sure about ! So far she’s been right
Sounds exactly like Becky! We’re very lucky to have such supportive teammates! ❤️😊
I remember fixing my wiring on my Boat. And it took me 4 1/2 days. Man what a pain it was just trying to figure out what was what and what wasn't needed. I had two trash bags full of wires that went to nothing. Lol man I was glad to get the job done.
Nice work. Love watching your video's.
Can't wait to see more!
Ok until next time, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii !
Hi Bill, I’m hearing this is a common problem… lol. Maybe people are afraid to take a project like this on… it is intimidating. 😬
Good job mate you're an inspiration. Could be a good slogan: just do it...
Hi Dj, Thanks! That one may have ™️. I’ll see how long I can get away with it. 😉
You need a tone generator and wand with AC noise suppression. I do data networks, etc and it those tools really help me find wires. I use them on the boat or plane too. The tempo 200fp has the AC noise filter. Yes it costs like a buck fifty but it works. The tone generator box is handy as well. Use the generator on the mystery wire and then trace it in wire bundles. The tempo has two modes one that filters ac and one that doesn't. You can get by with a cheaper wand but you have to turn off all ac power.
Hi Allyn, this sounds cool. I’ve never heard of this tool. The biggest problem I’m finding is many of our wires Are interrupted with butt crimp connectors. Sometimes multiple connections in the same strand. I’m going to be working my way through replacing these.
I’m going to look into the tone generator. 😎
Unbelievable!! Your finished board is amazing!! Well done!
Hi Kathleen, Thank you! 😊
It feels good to have that project behind me.
Cheers, Corey
Becky you look awesome!! Good job Corey! Wiring is super intimidating on a boat.
Wow, I wasn't expecting such a clean empty cabinet after seeing how it was originally. Brilliant effort. Hats off to you and Becky. Cheers from NZ. 😎 👍 👍 👍
Hi Jono, thank you! It turned out to be a much bigger project than I expected.
Thanks for dropping a comment! Is fun to hear from the other side of the planet 🌎
Cheers, Corey
Wow amazing job
Hi Stephen,
Thank you 😊
So good!
Hi Leonard, thank you!
Awesome job on getting one step closer to your family's dreams. Keep up the great work!
Hi Tom, Thank you! Only a few more big projects until we can safely and comfortably head out. 😁
Hello, Congratulations! The Kronos 45 is a beautiful catamaran. Are you creating a youtube channel or blog? We would love to follow your progress!
Cheers, Corey, Becky, Carter and Ella
Salty Escape❤️WHAT AN INCREDIBLE VIDEO AND INSPIRING MESSAGE!! You guys are exactly right that no matter the dream follow it and pursue it with a passion. Your videos have inspired us in our own way and while your project is a ginormous undertaking the results already are showing and your dedication and encouragement is definitely impacting others! Great job⛵️
Watch the max amps on that bus. Great job man. Well done.
Thanks guys! The max amp on the bus is 150A. Way more than we will pull through it. I’ll put an amp clamp on all of the wires and see how much they’re pulling if I were to turn everything on at once…. But it is significantly heavier than what Fontaine Pajot had installed as original equipment. 🤔
Man dude!!!! That was insane!!! Great job though!! Btw, it's GREAT to have a supportive spouse!!
Lol… I can’t take credit for the PO patch work. So, so many butt crimp connections. - all gone now. 😀
Two tools you should get a multimeter and a fox and hound wire tracer as electrician it is worth the money
Hi Marvin, we have a nice multimeter but I’ve never heard of the fox and hound wire tracer. Sounds cool. Another person suggested a tone generator.. maybe that’s the same thing? Luckily, we have most of it sorted out. Cheers, Corey
If wiring had the electronic color code on each end of the wire you could know the number of each wire, and you would never guess where the wire may feed. Electricians have color code tape for each number from 0 to 9.
Hi Rick, we have been labeling them with our label maker. Ideally both ends and in the middle when the wire is accessible. I think we have to many leads for the color tape. I’m still pulling old wires 😅
That does look like a mess. BTW if you’ve never tried the wet method with vinyl, you totally need to look into it… makes life much easier. That panel looks great!
😊 I’ve never tried it but I’ve read about it. I’m not sure if I’m going to have any other areas on our boat that we plan to wrap, but if one comes up I’ll give it a go!
Kudos to you for fixing that rats nest.
It’s hard to believe the rats nest survived this long! This Catamaran has had at least 4 previous owners, which means at least four surveys. I know our surveyor didn’t look behind the panel even though it was accessible. It would’ve failed for sure and we would’ve had to correct it before we could get lending. Such a relief to have it all cleaned up! 😊
I knew you where in trouble when I saw the "voltmetre".
lol.. so happy this project is behind us. 😁
@@SaltyEscape Mine is just starting. I have to remove a leaky water tank so I can get to the shore power wires. Then I can replace wires and hook up new main breaker.
What happened to your solar arch.saw you start the install but nothing else
Hi Gary, We have a fabricator welding a HUGE frame to mount the solar panels. Hopefully they will be done soon and then we can get it all finished. It’s going to be amazing. 😊
There is a vital piece of electrical equipment you did not use. Not a multimeter but a label maker. Although it will take time you need to trace every wire. You need to replace any dodgy wires chaffed whatever and even those which are the wrong colour. You also need to measure the width of each wire as it is easy for subsequent owners to makes changes which can use to much power. Luckily there are apps for that.
Of course this is a lot of work not too expensive apart from the new wire you need note there is a silicon wire which is excellent for boats. The good thing is that you can do so gradually just hay I have an extra couple of hours. I can check out a few wire runs inspect and label them maybe replace.
At the end you will have laid hands on every foot of wiring in your boat and also will have a stack of redundant wire and also wire you have replaced as not up to spec the wrong colour etc. All your wiring will be labelled at both ends and you will have peace of mind. All the time you have spent on the project will gradually repay itself as any future wiring changes you make will be much quicker as you do not need to identify each one.
Yes! We have a LabelMaker and we are working through all of the wires. I have already replaced many of them. The wiring is a mess but I’ll be very happy when it’s all corrected!! Cheers, Corey
I don't know, man.
I think I prefer the giant rats-nest of wires.
I mean, how is cruising going to be exciting without that constant concern of spontaneous combustion?
Is it too late to put all the wires back where they were?
-B
Lol. Remind me to bring a fire extinguisher when we’re on your boat. 🫣
Thank you for the video. Helps… But carbon fiber 😂…
I like it. ❤️
I've had the misfortune of encountering a job that was done by a guy who was colorblind. He literally had no idea about the colors.
Maybe that’s who did this one. A wire harness was a thing in the 90’s right!?
Why didn’t you use one of those companies to replicate your old panel incl the nice graphics with new modern modern switches and breakers ? Knowing the costs of those blue sea panels it shouldn’t be that much of a difference in price ? You could have even specced out space for the Cerbo display
Ps the 12.2v you saw on your panel vd the 13+ v from the batteries is probably caused by corroded connections to the shunt or battery sense cables that are somewhere hidden , but seeing you will use a Cerbo (with smartshunt ?) that problem will go away as well
Hey guys, I never heard of a company to replicate an old panel. That would have been something to consider. We’re probably going to have something made to replicate the graphics.
Yes, the Cerbo gx is coming soon. 🤞
DC PANAL? really.....
It stands for Direct Current…..
