@@enantiodromia This is how this should really be played (by far the best rendition on YT) - czcams.com/video/xYSWNmsCDf8/video.html. It's another level, but ofc it requires an excellent classical guitarist ;).
@@perakojot6524 Thanks for the link. I think you are right, if partially. I find the dynamics and the subtle accents on timing of this classical guitarist more pronounced and played more finely than those played by Mr. Smith, but the "classical" version appears to be lacking somewhat in passion and humor. Anyway, a great rendition, and well worth listening to another couple of times.
Amazing! Those little pull off notes you add are just crazy awesome. You need to be John Petrucci’s guitar universe camp. You have some mad rhythmic picking skills here.
This is so good. I'm working hard just to be as good as you are one day. I admire so much your musical knowledge, and your way of playing and arranging. Thanks for being such an inspiration
@ianizer1 my goal for now is trying to incorporate some improvisation in my fingerstyle playing. It's pretty hard but still satisfying! I have still plenty of doubts about my arranging skills but always working! thanks for asking!
@@ParaBellum2024 I agree with George Davis, I prefer Richard's. I think his is more faithful to the original music score. Richard's version sounded much better, really.
This is an absolutely amazing video. Richard has without a doubt put in the time and discipline on the guitar to be able to pull this off...Well Done Richard - Well fkn Done!!!!
Richard is not only a fantastic guitarist but also a great entertainer, no pun intended. I saw him live about 4 or 5 years ago in Fort Myers, FL. What a night
Absolutely awsome! I've watched Richards vireos for a few years, and love how he makes playing music seem so easy, especially how his registers on the fret board are placed. lovely to listen to.
lovely Richard, really takes me back to piano lessons as a kid, your understanding and skills light years beyond the little kid at the keys all those years ago, but somehow connected.
My 3 years of guitar doesn't qualify me to make judgements. But I still watch Richard's hands in this video over and over with the sound turned off. I had no idea that this level of precision and skill was even possible. He frets with zero delay, giving him complete control over the tempo. There are a lot of notes in this tune. As far as I can tell, he plays each one perfectly. My first impulse was to never try to play The Entertainer again. But instead I just bought the music and lessons from Mr. Smith's website. Just wanted to say thank you for opening a new dimension in guitar technique. Museum quality stuff.
@@rodgerhoughton1193 You are right. It almost annoys me when singers are praised for their voices as though it is by effort. Tone deaf people like me should try harder and keep practicing I guess until we get it right. I have been practicing singing for 46 years and am still hopeless and can't sing in tune. This is effort and more effort and years and years of practice.
@@rodgerhoughton1193 Duh. It's a comment made to illustrate the talent AND hard work AND discipline Richard has. Nobody other than you thought that the OP meant he just woke up one day and started playing that good lol.
Concentration levels at ten, even Richard is on the very edge of what's possible to play clean and clearly here, I'd be interested to know how many people can play this...
I think he overcomplicates the first section (after the main theme). There's some unnecessary barring going on there and, as a result, he has to adjust the melody to a different octave.
Fantastic, as always. I slightly prefer Richard’s performance at the CAAS convention a few years back. Slightly faster, jauntier tempo. Also, nothing like having Tommy E. sitting next to you, awestruck, to inspire you.
Beautifully played Richard! I have purchased a video lesson. Very detailed explanation. It will be one of the hardest things to learn on the guitar for sure! Thank you for putting all your effort into it.
Richard has inspired many people to take up the guitar and many experienced players to give up the guitar. Excellent.
Now Mr. Richard Smith is going to play something hard. 😂
Just watched that video with Tony Emmanuel 😂.
¡Magnífica interpretación!👍
I like that version with Mr. Emmanuel better. It is significantly livelier.

I've just gone out into the garden and burnt all my guitars.
I've always fancied learning the sax.
If you can play like that you can wear whatever shirt you want 😊
Never get tired of hearing his version. Master-class.
Richard is one of the best! Amazing player blessed with so much talent..
I can't hear a recorded version of "The Entertainer" without thinking of Richard Smith playing it on guitar!😊
All that phrasing that would be so straightforward on the piano... impossible for mortals on the guitar. Amazing skill.
no one can play it better (and with no parts skipped). simple as that
This is just fucking unbelievable. I just cant wrap my head around, how good this is. Mr. Smith, you are a god.

The tabs and instructional video are absolutely phenomenal. I just finished the "A" section and I'm moving forward nicely. Hard! But so worth it!

I too can own a guitar.
My kind of music for sure.
I suppose it is fitting that the video I finally find that surpasses Richard's previous recording of "The Entertainer" is Richard himself.
Look up Paola Hermosin's version. It's the equal of Richard's, but different.
@@ParaBellum2024 Her version is very expert as well, but I think I prefer Richard Smith’s.
