What series wasn't include that would be on YOUR list?
My list would be Malazan 10 times.
Okay, Malazan 9 times, Wheel of Time once, but in 10th place. Honorable Mention to Malazan.
Sun Eater, one day will be on this list!
Tolkien penta/trilogy.
Earthsea first trilogy.
the Witcher
Harry Potter
Tramorea saga
I guess those are all the finished fantasy series I liked.
Mmmmm. something can be deduced from the ist.
@@BelemrysI’m not a fan of the writing style. I’m not sure what it is but I just can’t get into it.
The Covenant of Steel trilogy by Anthony Ryan without a doubt.
Inquisitor Glokta in the First Law series is one of the best characters ever to be written in fantasy.
The thing is I like other characters in age of madness even better that’s how good the series is
Especially when read by Steven Pacey!
He's very interesting although not very realistic.
@@Maarten8867 Is there any realistic fantasy?
Agreed
Love coming to these and getting personal recs for which series to read next. Matt kills it every time 👊
Thank you!
I’m a new reader and I love fantasy in general. I’ve just been scouring CZcams for all the best recommendations and making a massive TBR list to tackle series by series and I’m so excited. So thanks for making lists like these!
Fantastic video!!! Thank you!
Great video. Added much to my (already too long) TBR :) You are really down to Earth and there's no BS. Love it.
Matt- I haven’t been in the comments in a while. Finished Wheel of Time! Loved it. Just started Realm of the Elderlings, nearly done with Assassins Apprentice and I am fully obsessed
You're in for a treat then, because the books keep getting better!
Thanks so much for this video I've added every series to my to be read list you make them all sound amazing. Going to be hard deciding where to start, leaning First Law or Malazan.
Thank so much! I needed more books!!
I would love to thank you for this update! My Sisyphean TBR gets even larger
Really nice. Even in a list like this, your videos are always fresh.
Always enjoy these videos 😊 keep it up
Thanks Dave!
I am definitely a binge-reader of series, so I appreciate this video! I am very much looking forward to reading the Dandelion Dynasty! I have a copy of all 4 books on my Kindle, ready to go. Probably will start December or January, as I have some other series I'm trying to finish first!
Thanks for another great video.
So many new entries to your top 10 completed! I'm currently reading the third book of Realm of the Elderlings and it's incredible so far! So many emotions and I'm still on the first trilogy
You are in for a wild ride -- enjoy!
It never gets old seeing other readers' favorite books. I love to find new series to add to my massive TBR, get excited about books already on my TBR, and see how differently we as readers respond to these books.
--I read Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City a few years back and....I didn't enjoy it. 😥
--I read Grace of Kings years ago and really liked it. It's embarrassing that I have yet to continue the series! I have heard so many amazing things about it!
--Pretty much every other series on your list is on my massive TBR.
--My favorite completed series: The Lord of the Rings. Harry Potter. Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn. The Obsidian Mountain trilogy.
Thanks for sharing and happy reading!
I got a copy of the Grace of Kings back when it first came out on paperback, but I didn’t read it until I heard that the last one came out in 2022! Now I’m in the middle of the fourth book. It looks like the first and second books came out in 2015 and 2016, and the third and fourth didn’t come out until 2021 and 2022. I can’t imagine having to wait so long between books 2 and 3! 😭 They are soooo worth the read! It’s probably my favorite series of all time! Although I haven’t even read that many series so what do I know?
As always you give me so much for my TBR. I wrap up First Law this month. I have a buddy read set up to go through Durfee's trilogy starting in January. So I am working on it.
Awesome! Where is that buddy read taking place?
It's me Josh at Redfury, Matt at Geaux read and some others I can't remember right now. We will probably use Red Fury books for discussions as he has the most followers and that will help getting the word out. @@MattsFantasyBookReviews
Your enthusiasm is contagious
Thank you!
Hey I'm a new subscriber and I just wanted to thank you for your channel. It's saved my hobby as a fantasy reader. As I don't have much time anymore, most of my "reading" has become listening to audiobooks, and for whatever reason it's become REALLY difficult to discover new/good series through Audible over the last few years. You've helped tremendously in finding actually good high fantasy, and now I feel like I have dozens of new options just from skimming your last handful of videos. I haven't even read 7 out of 10 series on this list, and that is unbelievably exciting to me. I thought I had run out of decent books, and was stuck in another long wait for the authors I love to release something new.
P.S. If you're reading this, don't stop on the Dungeon Crawl Carl series. I've listened to them all so far, and while there's relatively weaker entries, every single book is absolute GOLD.
Thanks so much, I love hearing that!
And no I'm definitely not done with DCC, I'll read the next one in a month or so!
I think Malazan is my favourite completed Fantasy series. Might be number one in general when I think about it.
It's so far ahead of everything else, it's on another level
I’m on Toll the Hounds, 8th book. Just started on prologue. Finished Reaper’s Gale last night. Never read anything like this before.
I thank Matt for bringing up the series several times and after looking up the series, I decided to read it as soon as I can. I reserved the book at library but after realizing it may be the most complex series I would ever read so I bought the series for $80 CAD. Glad I bought it. So many characters, vast world.
Bro plzz help me make sense of it that thing never makes sense to me
@@pranavmuthige427 nobody can help you.
@@rickym2881 well I guess one needs to be native English speaker to make sense of it.
Great list brother.Thank you for the reccomendation.Currently iam reading powder mage trilogy by your reccomendation. Iam loving it
Currently on book 9 of wheel of time series, loving it, will start first law after that and one day in next 5-10 years will start malazan
Ok. I just bought the audio for 16 something something or other... and I'm bumping The Bone Ships up my listen list 🤪 Your placement of the First Law definitely makes us kindred 🙌🏼 I'm 5 hours into the audio of Mazalan 🤓
Keep at it my guy. Great book tube channel. You’ll blow up for sure
Thanks Patrick!
Just finished book 2 of Malazan and I haven’t read anything like the Chain of Dogs in my life. I know it only gets even better from there so I’m excited.
You are in for a wild ride!
Wait until Midnight Ice.
Yeah i just read it all and loved it, some books more then others, but overall an epic world with epic characters that feels very deep, even tough some of them get little screen-time.
My favorite character was easily Tehol and his servant, which you will meet later, in what is my favorite book of the ten... i think :=)
Now reading "Five Warrior Angels", which has started great so far!
cheers
@@henriklarsson5221 Bugs and Tehol. They are hilarious.
Oh my so many that I still have yet to try-I can’t wait for Five Warrior Angels, Dandelion Dynasty, Tide Child, and Mother of Learning!
Completely agree on WoT, Powder Mage as honorable mentions and Malazan as number 1. The Five Warrior Angels is underrated and I love it's inclusion. I'm a bit surprised to see First Law and the John Gwynn books over Realm of the Elderlings (I thiink there are massive, massive flaws in both series) but I respect your rankings.
Just finished Malice and I can’t wait to continue this series. Absolutely loved that first book
It's the worst book of the 4, so you are in for a treat!
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews. That actually sounds exciting!
Mother of learning seems interesting! Will add to my TBR.
It really is! Takes about 100 pages to get it's hooks into you. But once it does, it doesn't let go!
Here are some more suggestions that aren't as popular and probably won't show up:
1. Robert E Howard's Conan series.
2. Warhammer Fantasy have some finished and some unfinished stories. Malus Darkblade have 6 books with a satisfying ending.
3. Elric of Melnibonè
Edit: Conan isn't "finished" in a classic sense but it is still worth it. The series have different deviations from multiple authors but the original is the go to.
Was genuinely devastated when I finished A Time Of Courage, knowing that my time in The Banished Lands was at an end....I can't stop thinking about Corban and especially Maquin! What a man!
Yeah, Maquin is an all-time great!
I have the Joe Abercrombie audio-books and I agree narration is fantastic. Just finished Red country, which is the best one so far...
About 3/4 through Jade City and I'll be honest; I didn't think I would like it. But it has grown on me, and I'm seriously considering reading book two after I finish, because I feel like it can get even better as the series continues! :)
Currently reading through Five Warrior Angels and it's in my top 3, absolutely loving it, almost finished Blackest Heart.
Been deciding what to start next, either Malazan or Faithful and the Fallen.. just haven't decided which one first yet..
If you want something more complicated than Five Warrior Angels that will really make you think, go Malazan.
If you want something less complicated than Five Warrior Angels and you want to just kind of turn your brain off and have fun, go Faithful and the Fallen.
You can't go wrong either way.
Nice! I didn't know Mother of Learning was finished.
Yup, finished sometime in the last couple years.
On the completed fantasy series list for me (and one of the most fun series in my opinion) would be The Cradle series from Will Wight. It is an amazing "Progression-Fantasy" series that if you love martial arts and fantasy this is a series for you. Easy to read and not too long.
I love so many of these too, and others are definitely on my list! I loved Ninth Rain by Jen Williams. One could argue that you could stop at the original Red Rising trilogy. If that were the case, it would make my list.
Ninth Rain is definitely on my TBR!
Malazan 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
With the exception of the Mistborn series I love this list.
Oh didn't know about the new K.J Parker books. I read a few of his other books years ago and liked them, but I would definitely put Jennifer Fallons Hythrun Chronicles on my personal list (starting with Wolfblade) and Glenda Larkes The Isles of Glory trilogy. Maybe some Tamora Pierce (Song of the Lioness), Kylie Chan (Dark Heavens) and Mercedes Lackey (Arrows) as well. I have so many others I could choose for my own list!
I always think about the first law.
I started getting into modern fantasy with Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series, I fell in love with them rightfully so, I then went onto his other books and when I completed them I started trying other series, at this point I have read over 300 fantasy books. The green bone saga is my favourite series, Scadriel (Mistborn) is my favourite magic system but the first law world I just always find myself thinking about.
Greetings Matt,
Have you considered reading wars of light and shadow series by Janny Wurts?
Awesome video as always ❤🎉
Yes, I should be reading that in 2024!
Deed of Paksenarrion! It's a Trilogy, hopefully that first book gets a win on the patreon wheel sometime :)
Malazan has always been my favourite since the moment I out down the crippled god. I've read it though 3 times including the Esslemont companions. It's unmatched for me. I'm very excite to read Gwynee and Liu, on the TBR list
I'm reading the first law books right now and enjoying the story...writing and audiobook
Awesome, hope you continue to enjoy them!
I've never heard of four of these. Will be adding them to my TBR. Shocked that Discworld is just an honorable mention. I put that much higher than Mistborn Era 1. But that's why it's all opinion. Memory, Sorrow and Thorn would be on my list. The Red Queen's War would probable be there, too.
As someone who just picked up John Gwynne with Shadow of the Gods, and loved it despite not knowing about his prior series, I guess i have 4 more books by him that I need to read!
Yay for Malazan! Gonna read first law soon. Have you read red rising? Bout to read it with me wife.
Yeah, I thought it was just okay. The writing style felt a little jarring to me. But most people I talk to absolutely love it so you probably will as well. Enjoy!
suggestion for future consideration: R. Scott Bakker's series The Prince of Nothing trilogy + The Aspect Emperor quartet 🤓... some of the deepest characterisations I have read in the genre. A tad grim af but so good 👌
Prince of Nothing is leading my patreon vote for next month, so I very well may be reading it soon!
Glad to hear about this, totally agree.
My whole family read GOT, so now I am trying to get them all to read First Law. I broke through with my brother n law so now I am hoping the dominos will fall.😀 Looking forward to the holidays when we can discuss Logan & Glotka around the table!
Good work!
This is so wholesome❤
Great video homie, Malazan is where it's at.
Thank you!
My list would include the Empire Trilogy, the Warlord Chronicles and the Bloodsworn Saga. Hopefully Book 3 will be out soon!🤞
The Book of the Fallen is the best ❤❤❤.
The First Law trilogy was a bit confusing to me in the sense that I had seen it recommended so many places but when I finished the first book, I thought to myself “ok, so a bunch of people get together…” lol
The characters have the most unique voices that fantasy has to offer, for sure. It doesn’t need to be said who is speaking. I do think the plot falls a bit short though; it’s not bad, just not captivating or all that interesting imo. You read the series for the character though.
The audiobook may be untouchable. It will forever hold a grip on me
I would have to add The Empire trilogy by Feist & Wurts, Paksennarion by Elizabeth Moon, Memory Sorrow Thorn by Tad Williams, The Last Herald Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lackey (really all of Valdemar but this trilogy is my absolute favorite), the Engineer trilogy by KJ Parker, Long Price Quartet by Daniel Abraham.
I also have a lot of older authors/series that would have to be honorable mentions since I haven't reread them in quite some time.
I'm reading Empire trilogy soon, Engineer next year - and hopefully Long Price Quartet next year as well.
Missed : Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind. War for the Rose,Peter Mcclean. And of course; Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. Probably because it s considered YA but that is easily forgotten with the amount of excellent battles, violence, intrigue and makes the romance bearable. But iut if this 10 i missed only 3 si will read them as by your recommendation
Great list! Appreciate the new series that I haven't heard of before now added to my to-read list.
Question about John Gwynne. I went to the library but they didn't have his first series so I grabbed the sequel series, but I only got half way through the first book. I found it to be trite and unpolished, silly and arcade-like. But I see constant recommendations for the first series. Is the writing better in the first? I would hate to start into it only to find that it's just as bad.
Series that I would have put on my list that aren't on yours:
LotR (obviously)
Memory Sorrow and Thorn
Chronicles of Thomas Covenant
OT Shannara (for nostalgia if nothing else)
The Book of Swords by Fred Saberhagen (not sure if it counts as completed)
No the writing is very similar. So you probably aren't going to like it.
One day ErraticErrata will bless the world with hard copies of their A Practical Guide to Evil and I'm positive I'll blow half of these fantasy lists. Got some very new rec from this video anyways, thank you!
What is your preferred length for a series if you have one? I find trilogies are perfect. I find a lot of longer series suffer from too many dips in quality.
Honestly I love a longer series - some of my favorite series are 10+ books.
"The Winds of the Forelands" by David B. Coe
"The Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone" by Greg Keyes
They'll probably always be among my top 5 favorite series, completed or otherwise. Sadly they're criminally under-read.
So, I've read the first books of Mistborn Era 1, The Faithful and the Fallen, and The Tide Child; I've read The First Law and The Age of Madness and The Liveship Traders; and I've read quite a lot of Discworld. That leaves plenty of series I haven't ventured into yet, and I'm always keen to get advice from fellow readers I respect.
Of the ones I haven't read, which would you say are the best three when it comes to female characters -- that is, active and interesting heroines who play key roles in the story? I know not every highly regarded series hits the bull's eye where this is concerned, but it is a factor in my enjoyment, so I'd welcome suggestions on what to try next.
The Greenbone Saga and the Dandelion Dynasty.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews Thank you!
My List in no particular order
Craft Sequence,
Earthsea,
Book of the Fallen,
Book of the New Sun,
Books of Babel,
Hyperion,
Discworld,
Terra Ignota,
Dune,
Novels of the Malazan Empire.
Have you read The Poppy War trilogy and if so what do you think? I'm fairly new to reading again for fun, and this is the second I've read (after the Rampart trilogy my M.R Carey which I think qualifies) and I love it. It's made me want to read more fantasy which is why I've watched this video, so just curious your thoughts on it :)
I did read it. I liked the first one, didn't really like the 2nd and 3rd.
Have you ever read Crown of Stars by Kate Elliott?
Probably up your alley--epic high fantasy series interwoven with grit and politics.
My guess abt #2 & #3 got switched.
What about ur top 10 authors?
Matt, you already posted your top 10 completed series 2023 edition on May 29th! :D But thank you nevertheless 😉 Curious about The Siege.
Lol no that was just overall best series. This one is specific to completed series.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews Not kidding, the thumbnail on that video says “TOP 10 COMPLETED FANTASY SERIES 2023 UPDATE” and the video title is “I read over 400 fantasy books & these are the best completed fantasy series” 😂
@@danielbujdos - lol, apparently I'm losing my mind.
the Riftwar Cycle by Raymond E Feist
K. J. Parker a.k.a Tom Holt is absolutely brilliant writer. I HIGHLY recommend his stand alone book Snow White and the Seven Samurai. ABSOLUTELY HILLARIOUS. Full of ironic wit.
I'm definitely getting this trilogy!
My most favorite Fantasy book series (cliche, I know) is The Wheel of Time. This was my gateway to fantasy. So, I'm very sentimental towards it. I started reading it since my first year in Uni. And since then I was avidly following the release of the series every. When Robert Jordan died after the release of Winter's Heart, I was really devasted. When I heard that Brandon Sanderson picked it up to complete the series I was skeptical at first. After I did my research on him I approved.
My one peeve in life is that they shouldn't have allowed the series to be adapted into TV series. This just ruined the experience of the books. I would rather recommend playing the game The Wheel of Time, which I believe many fans to appreciate it. (It was how I got into the book series in the first place.)
If this had included uncompleted series, what would have been the rank of asoiaf and stormlight archives?
Stormlight #6, ASOIAF #8
Just curious as someone who is enjoying a ton of BIG series. How much of your reading is audiobook vs physical?
About 2.5 books per audiobook
I just promised myself that I won't start any unfinished series so this is great for me. The series that probably wont ever get completed are a exception though. I just dont want to read 2 books of a trilogy and then wait a year for the last book. I would rather read all three back to back next year
Yeah I definitely used to do EXACTLY what you are talking about!
A series that just started that is super promising is Swords of Dominion by NC Koussis. It's a grimdark fantasy that focuses on themes of religion and how "good people" in groups can do terrible things.
I've never heard of it, but I'll have to check it out! That sounds great!
Really? I see the resume in goodreads and just looks assassins creed + god of war.
Real history shows such thing better than any fantasy Ive seen.
People loves thinking that evil things done in the name of good are good.
I think Dandelion dynasty is my favorite series of all time :)
It's SO good. I'm reading Speaking Bones right now.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews Enjoy it!
You sold The Realm of the Elderlings for me, I just borrowed Assassin's Apprentice to my libby account right now
Awesome - enjoy!
Can't wait until you read more KJ Parker, especially the Engineer trilogy.
Yeah that will be my next KJ Parker read.
The Vagrant Trilogy was good
The night angel trilogy and mistborn
I have only 5 hours of audio left for the Crippled God… I am worried. Thankfully I can browse your channel in search for the next masterpiece
Wheel of Time has actually done the opposite for me as it has for you. It keeps rising because everytime i read a new series or reread WoT i think yeah this is the best fantasy story ever told. Its not my favorite (because of some of the issues like you mentioned) but i do think the story is the best with some of the best characters as well.
Was a huge series to read and I had to take breaks in between because of Robert’s writing style is alright, too much minutiae as my sister says. It did need better editing. Beginning and end were great but the middle was where I had a tough time with. The characters were great and if it weren’t for that, I would’ve stopped reading.
@@rickym2881 I think it has 2 weak books in the middle but doesn't need better editing. I like the detail
@@LordNovaPrime1 I don’t regret reading the series.
@rickym2881 right and that's what I mean by how amazing the story is. Yeah it's got issues but for me nothing still tops the story told
@@LordNovaPrime1 don’t get me wrong, it’s not easy for me to say what I’m trying to say but I did enjoy WoT series because it was amazing even though it has flaws.
I'm on book 4 of Malazan, I won't know what to do when its over
Do what most Malazan superfans do. Just read it again. And again. And again.
Read the other books in the series. Read Esslemont's Novels of the Malazan Empire series. Then read Esslemont's prequel series, then Erikson's prequel series.
I am wondering if First Law is a completed series. The end of Age of Madness clearly indicates that the story is not over.
Abercrombie has said that he is done with the world. But he's also said that before the Age of Madness...so who knows?
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews then he ended it on a strange note 😅
I believe he said he'd come back to it but only if he's feeling like he has more to add. He's definitely not working on anything in 1st Law right now.
Hopefully we get another standalone trilogy, because those were so damn good.
Totally agree with the tide child trilogy! For me this was the perfect series, I just loved it so so much :)
Didn't you just do one of these 3 months ago? Lol. Not complaining, I keep an eye out for these types of vids. Just saying, lol.
My list has changed a bit the last few months though. I too have moved First Law up a few spots. From #5 to #2 in fact. I include ALL of the FIrst Law universe books in with the original trilogy however.
My list:
10. Deed of Paksenarrion
9. Mistborn Era 1
8. Faithful & the Fallen
7. Belgariad/Malloreon
6. Kingkiller Chronicles
5. Malazan Book of the Fallen
4. Drenai Saga
3. Stormlight Archive
2. First Law universe
1. Wheel of Time (still my #1 and probably always will be. First Law had a shot at this if the AoM trilogy would have been as good as the stand alones; fell a bit short though; Stormlight could pass it if next years book is great and Kingkiller has a shot if Rothfus ever finishes it and it's as good as the first two)
Nope, it was 12 months ago :)

Can't wait to read TFATF and Greenbone Saga 😊
Right now I read Best Served Cold by Abercrombie 🙏
Malazan is the best Grimdark series ever but it is somewhat complex. And its strange that most people say there are 10 books in the series (if you read the series you will know) that the books 'Dust of Dreams' and "Crippled God' are the same book in 2 parts; 'Dust of Dreams' has no cliffhanger at the end and it just picks up in 'The Crippled God.' So technically there are 10 physical books in the series but the last 2 consist of what should be a near 2400 page book which would not be feasible to bind into a full book.
I’m on 8th book, Toll the Hounds. Greatest series I ever read.
"Crying a little bit..." Do you mean straight up ugly crying? I still get choked up, and have to go hug my dog just thinking about some scenes in RotE...
So odd that so many people like The Five Warrior Angels but I didn't like it much at all. That said, there were some themes about religion, especially in the third book, that I wholeheartedly agreed with. I think the biggest problem for me with that series is Dokie, Beer Mug, and Liz Hen. They are obviously the author's favorites in the series but they seem to be nearly immortal for just "normal" people caught up in a war. Some of the situations they lived, and thrived through, made no sense to me. While other far more capable characters got a lot less screen time.
Love this video but so different from my taste. Fitz books were boring to me and i couldnt finish the third malazan book and disliked the first law books😅❤
I can't disagree with you from a story perspective, but from a character perspective they are world class (in my opinion).
@@MattsFantasyBookReviewsreally happy you enjoy them. ❤
I DNF'd 16 ways to defend a walled city, I read a hundred or so pages and just couldn't keep going. Couldn't understand, didn't really find it funny. Should I pick it back up again?
Nope! Humor is entirely subjective, if it didn't hit right for you just move on :)
Adding Prince of Nothing and Book of the New Sun to this. You might enjoy PoN, Matt, but you're better off staying away from BotNS entirely.
I'm definitely reading PoN in the near future!
I think we can start calling ASOIAF "completed" or at least "done". I don't read any unfinished series, if I can help it, and I'm starting A Game of Thrones soon. I really need Cahill, Ruocchio and Pierce Brown to wrap their series up and I'll be in heaven
I think eventually we will get one more ASOIAF book. But it definitely won't finish the series.
I looked up to see if Martin finished the next book yet, lol. I eventually saw that if he doesn’t finish the series, no one else will. He doesn’t want anyone else touching it.
I was so looking forward to the Dandelion Dynasty after hearing all your praise about it, but after finishing The Grace of Kings, I think I'm done. I felt the characters were really poor and I just didn't care for anyone. The book jumped around way too much in my opinion, and it felt more like reading a history book than an interesting novel. Also fantasy elements just felt crammed in without being actually necessary. It's the first time I've disagreed with your take on a book!
Yeah it's EXTREMELY fast paced. I will say that the first book really is just like a history book of the world. The 2nd book slows way down and tells the actual story. It's extremely different.
The Dandelion Dynasty is amazing!
Malazan - I tried the audiobook and quickly realized that this isn't the kind of book that does well in Audio. Can't be driving or doing chores and follow along with Malazan. Will have to get a hard copy one day to give it another chance.
Lots of other interesting books on this list I'll have to try.
Narrator changed in book 4 and on. I gathered Steven Erikson wasn’t happy with the first narrator. Michael Page actually sped the stories faster than Ralph Lister. From Steven’s note of thanks to Michael Page because of proper pronunciations.
Sad to see WOT moving out of the list
Where’s the dark tower ? 😂
LOL
You do know that KJ Parker is actually Tom Holt?
Yeah, but I figured it would be confusing to refer to him as that when the book says KJ Parker.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviewsah, I was confused when you spoke about it being comedic when thats what Holts known for! Always interesting when someone writes as a pseudonym
Hmm, I just cannot get behind the Faithful and the Fallen. Maybe because I listened to the audio books and did not enjoy the narrator very much. But man, that series felt so slow and very predictable and I just did not care about a single character at all. I also did not have a clear vision of the what the world looked like really, and the time jumps were strange for me.
I genuinely don't get this list to the point where I downvoted before deciding against it. Everyone has opinions I guess. No. 1 Malazan is an incomprehensible mess for most readers and stays disjointed forever, but WoT as an honorable mention? If this were an "underrated fantasy series" list I would agree. But Top 10? No shot.
Also if you liked Grace of Kings the first book is just Romance of the Three Kingdoms. If you want fantastic historical fiction that is a must-read.
I mean, at the end of the day these are all just opinions. Lots of people love Malazan, lots of people hate it. Lots of people love WoT, lots of people hate it.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews No hate from me, man. I'm glad you're making videos like this and I hope they all do well and your channel continues to grow.
I just disagree strongly. There's a lot of better series displaced by newer ones. But hey, I'm moving on.
Malazan is the best series ever
And I pay u one million $$$ every time you mention my books!!!
Just venmo that money right over Brian! Pleasure doing business with you as always :)
