9:23 “you eventually become FACE TO FACE with the HEADLESS horseman” ... I doubt it
😂
Oh, I see what you did there...
Two-thirds of a pun: P.U.
Though a Sleepy Hollow dark ride would be both fun and scary.
Lmfaoo yass thank you... this was too serious
el mono IDEA!
If Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of the Haunted Mansion ever gets made it would be really nice if he could incorporate a lot of these unused ideas like Captain Gore, The Museum Of Weird, Harry the Arm, The Lonesome Ghost, The Headless Horseman, The Giant Octopus in the pit, The Monster Party, etc. and put them on screen!
Would be nice to have a real scary movie off the haunted mansion background ❤
"The world's largest people trap"
Michael Eisner wishes he could be that funny.
Yamcha Kippur Bojack though
This would be cool to recreate in VR.
The Disney History Institute started this project. DHI gave a presentation at the D23 Expo about the 1957 Ken Anderson concepts, and showed screenshots of the Sept. 17th Revision 2 recreation build.
OMG YES TO ALL OF THESE COMMENTS YES
I would kill for that, but sadly, so would Disney.
@DJ Kombatbunni Any update?
@@jeremymarxcs Any update?
I love how you can hear a bit of Walt's Mickey voice at 5:04
To me it sounds like Walt switches from Mickey down to Goofy's voice.
No lol
In New Orleans Square, where the train goes through the tunnel entering New Orleans station, there is audio of a party and you can hear people talking and one of the conversations is about Captain Gore, a little of his backstory and the haunted mansion. I used to work the steam trains at the park and if I had to be positioned at the New Orleans station in the morning, I got to here the full audio loop.
Wow! I've never heard of this, I'd love to hear the full audio loop.
You worked in the Disneyland Railroad steam trains? Can I get you me number and address? 😂
Does anyone know anything about the mockup.
The "licensing rights Nightmare" ghosts and monsters aren't as much of a nightmare as you think. Frankenstein's monster, Dracula, Canterville Ghost, Phantom of the Opera, ect, those are all public domain. Universal only owns their own particular incarnations. if they match the book versions or design their own versions they're fine and free.
It seems like it would be difficult to include Frankenstein, Dracula and the Phantom in any incarnation that doesn't share the ones done by the classic Universal movies. Those characters are pretty iconic, and frightening. I don't think it would have worked back then, not sure about now though.
Are they really public domain? I didn't know that!
They werent in public domain at the time were they....?
3:19 “But details are sketchy”
If that was intentional, that’s potentially the best sly pun this channel has ever pulled off 😂
AK daddy!
that one dislike is from eddie murphy.
stop hating on eddie i enjoy that movie lol
@Big Steve Ahem... Terrance. Stamp.
It's actually decent.
Everyone says to stop hating on Eddie even though he said nothing about him being a bad actor
The movie is decent to me. But I don’t mind a little bit of satire.
Walt Disney: this park is for families to have wholesome fun together
Claude Coats: so here is where we're gonna have the electrified handrailing
The original "Ghost House" idea sounded absolutely terrifying and awesome!
As usual, professional and well done. This is the most accurate and complete telling of the original ride. You even added more little known details. It's videos like this that make you stand out. Thank you.
Your comment made my night, as I was (and still am) driving myself crazy only having scraps of information detailing the multiple revisions and changes available to the public...trying to piece them all together into one cohesive narrative.
I should’ve rethemed it to Eddie Murphy
Michael Eisner you monster
No, you shouldn't have, young man! Now go to your room!
Leave this place! You can’t hurt us anymore!
This has to be a parody channel
Would have been better than the Haunted Mansion Holiday.
Distracted myself once the clip of Walt saying "Slave in the magic mirror, come from the farther space..." played because I have that whole scene from Snow White memorized so I started reciting it to myself lol
I wanted to play the entire clip, but as amazing as it is, forced myself to trim it down...
Moral of the story, hairy the arm is just looking for someone to love.
Or someone to armwrestle
reminds me of that monster that used to be in that tiny toons show when i was a kid, he was kinda heart shaped and covered in brown hair?
Sure wish that version of the haunted mansion would've been around... for Evers and Evers.
You have no idea how tempted I was to find a way to get in that line...
@@YesterworldEntertainment it would've been the cherry on this already awesome retrospective.
Go to your room.
Shut . Up. Idiot.
@@YesterworldEntertainment you didn't and that's why ur still here . The one actor in haunted mansion played the negus in ds9 !!
I'll admit it, I love the film. I know! It's not the Haunted Mansion movie I, or anyone, wanted, but I can't help it! I just enjoy it, it's just funny to me... And it is kinda what got me into the horror genre.
Kinda same! I'm not into horror but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie
This ^
The movie does pay some loving tributes to the Haunted Mansion, and you can tell there was a lot of passion to bring elements of the attraction to life...those are the most enjoyable parts in my opinion. Even the overall plot, as pointed out in the episode, works more or less. The problem was making it an Eddie Murphy comedy slapped with a Haunted Mansion backstory without taking it seriously, just a lot of cheap jokes and eye-rolling comedy. I don't blame anyone on the cast or crew, as everyone did the best they could, it was just the overall story direction that was flawed...I have high hopes for Guillermo Del Toro's (hopefully) adaptation.
The only horror in the movie was the script!
@@YesterworldEntertainment Oh I absolutely agree that that is the main problem, and I do understand why people hate it so much. But each time I watch it, expecting to hate it for those flaws that time around(given the Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride, and how dare they do such a thing to it), I just don't. Maybe I'm alone in this endeavor, but it is a journey I must walk.
But also, yeah it's bad, but I think people act like it's way worse than it actually is, like a 4/10, rather than a 2/10.
9:23 "you eventually come 'face to face' with the Headless Horseman" Ummmm, how would this have been possible?
Ummm...good question...Face to Neck?
Pumpkin to face?
I haven't been to a Disney park since 2000, and yet I can do the entire Magic Kingdom narration in my head...some things are just plain iconic, and the HM is definitely that.
Man! I love Disney’s Headless Horseman. This would’ve been badass.
like someone said the only bad n scary thing about Disneyland is the cost n the passes going up smh
Marshan Thomas yup
@DJ Kombatbunni smh n plz check out my youtube
That intro was great!!
LOVE the haunted mansion movie, it’s so underrated. no further questions, thanks.
Such a good movie
Yeah, it was a good movie, the unfortunte thing is that Disney fans can be such snobs towards it just because they share the same name *coughYesterworldcough*
I saw it in theatres way back then, but don’t remember it to well. Don’t think I hated otherwise I would say so, but I can’t recall loving it. So musta been one those mindless watches that was just ehhh this is ok lol.
I love it
I would still love to see it built, as impractical as it may be as a walkthrough. Can you imagine walking through that?
I’m thinking that the story of a murdered bride and the man who murdered her hanging himself fits into the current Disneyland haunted house
Omg hes come so far, from more monotone narration and spitting out facts to funny intros and inside jokes I’m so happy for him
Oddly a walk-through like this describes is even scarier to my mind then what was created. Probably because I would feel much more on the defensive against whatever effects happened. The original ider of the museum still appeals to me though. And I happen to love the Haunted Mansion movie. It's fun and doesn't need to be anything but itself. Same with the Tower of Terror movie.
The tower of terror movie was awesome. In fact that’s what I hoped (assumed?) the haunted mansion movie was going to be like and was sorely disappointed. ToT movie always stuck with me as being very cool and creepy! Kinda reminds me of the movie Watcher in the Woods, if you’ve ever seen it. A super creepy Disney classic!
Honestly I prefer a walk through for scary stuff because I feel more in control, like if I need to run I can. However I'm Australian and anyone who's heard of the Ghost Train fire that happened here would probably prefer a guided walk through too.
@@definitelynotalizard I can understand that. And you have a point about being more in control in a walk through. Sadly I've heard about the Ghost Train fire and in particular that one family. It's scary in and of itself the effect such events can have on people who weren't even there.
Iirc the version in HK disney does go for the idea of a Museum of the Paranormal, (because of cultural differences I think)
I would love to see an attraction crossover with Yesterworld, Theme Park History, Defunctland, and Some Jerk With A Camera.
Don’t forget Disney Dan, Tpmvids and Offhand Disney.
@@TheDigitalApple ah yes.
“And then murders his beloved wife. Next up is the highlight of the ride that involves a pirate ship, and a bayou!”
Omg this would have been awesome and I totally would have bought some of her wedding cake
although the portrait hallway with the eyes following is still there
atleast In Tokyo Disneyland version of the Haunted Mansion
Eddie Murphy Haunted Mansion retheming is truly the darkest timeline.
I don't know. Offhand Disney really dislikes Haunted Mansion Holiday.
Nah, Haunted Mansion Holiday is.
Is it gone now, thankfully?
August Macias As lame as it is that the holiday overlay stays for as long as it does, I’ll gladly take that over the rumored overhaul the Mansion was supposed to receive if the movie did well.
Sparky Nah, I was there today and it’s up right now
Excuse me, I liked the Haunted Mansion movie. XD
me 2 n plz check out my youtube
Same
Right? This guy was starting to get annoying with how negative he is about the movie like we get it you don’t like the movie so stfu
Me too
Aw man I would really want any attraction that features Walt Disney's voice in the queue before you go in
I'm on my 3rd or 4th rewatch of this video, and every time I lose it at shhhhh, you're ruining it". Been watching since you only had like, 3 videos out and it's so great to hear you put your personality and sense of humor in the scripts. You're killing it mark!
Them should make a Disney plus haunted mansion animated series with these idea
No, it wouldn't be PC !
I actually enjoy The Haunted Mansion movie. It's a fun movie to watch at Halloween time in my opinion. But hey, my favorite Halloween movie is The Tower of Terror film.
Tower of Terror is actually a great take on a scary movie for kids! It's very enjoyable.
Awesome job putting this together, and thank you for doing so! I had heard of the walk through before , but couldn't even imagine it. What amazes me the most, is the dark side of Disney. I don't think much of this would fly in this day and age, but it would have been great!
The octopus reminds me of a story from the haunted mansion book “the fearsome foursome” (it’s a cool book). The one character ends up being drowned/eaten by a sea creature he put in his pool.
The Wedding ideas were used in Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris.
GASP!!! The moving portraits in the queue were some of my favorite parts of the ride!!!! (That's what I get for not going back to Disney since 2005)
I knew by the beginning this would be a creepy episode. Chills up my spine. Eddie Murphy.
(EDIT: Thanks for noticing me Mark! Your videos are always so funny and they brighten my day!)
So what would Claude Coats' version of the Haunted Mansion (which would have been much darker and truly scary) have looked like if it were built?
That's for another episode ;)
I CLEARLY remember back when the mansion first opened I saw a man wrapped up in a spider web about to be eaten by a giant spider..under him was a bag of ghost hunting equipment like an EMF thing and other items..anyone else recall this or is it Mandela effect???
You aren't the only one. Many a person claims to have seen this man in a web when WDW's opened in 1971
I have to say I love the earlier darker concepts almost more than what was actually created, it would have been like walking into a traditional ghost story. Ah well, the final version is also a unique masterpiece. Your Eddie Murphy mocking bits were hilarious, and as someone that loves Halloween I appreciated the re-themed intro.
I remember seeing an interview after the movie was released, where the actress said that if the movie did well, there was talk of changing the ride. I was genuinely scared they'd do it. I'm still mad that they changed Pirates, but at least those movies were decent (or the first one, anyway).
Thank god the HM movie tanked - could you imagine having Eddie Murphy in every scene in the ride - Uggggh!
I have always love your videos. So much information and so well put together.
However this one takes the cake!!
I have never understood why the ride shifts and you are sent backwards into the graveyard!!
Now I know!! Love it!!
I wonder why they took the eye following portraits. The new ones are cool and all but I miss the old ones.
Disney: This is going to be a frightful experience for the whole family
Also Disney: Let's hang a guilt-filled man
Great video. Although I love the final Haunted Mansion that we ended up with, both original versions sounded absolutely incredible. Some of the scenes sound so chilling.
I have a deep seeded love of Haunted Mansion as my Mom's Uncle is Buddy Baker (who did the music on it)
You know what Disney should do... Have the original pirate theme and the wedding walkthrough bundled as a home VR experience. Do the same for Journey into your Imagination, Alien Encounter, etc.. This would open up a whole new nostalgic marketplace for them.
Ah, despite the fact that the movie isn’t great, I LOVE this movie. It is literally my childhood as my parents refused to take me to Disney as a kid XD
Thanks so much for these videos I’ve literally watched all of them! ❤️
loved this video! thanks! (always fun to rewatch your content!)
Good job! One of the best researched videos on the haunted mansion yet! I still would like to see a video done about the people mover. It’s origins, details about its construction and inner workings and its uses in rides.. it plays such a pivotal role overall!
I love this channel, it’s so relaxing and interesting to watch.
amazing videos... well done, informative even for us "experts" ...learned so much. and great humor throughout. thank you
This haunted mansion actually seems scary.
Thank you for doing the Haunted Mansion it's my favorite ride. Keep up the good content!
Cool
I really like this Video!!! This is one of my favorite videos along with the Journey into Imagination video!!!
Love your channel. Thanks for all the research you do! Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride ever.
Marks intros increase my quality of life
My cat thought you were calling her for the first bit of this video, because her name is Purrcilla (Queen of the Desserts) and you kept saying Priscilla. She's not the smartest.
That is an A+ cat name.
This is one of the best Mansion history vids!!! Thanks for not just recycling the same old stories we've heard - over and over and over!
Ok... If I had access to a time machine I'd want to visit Burbank 1957... Zorro stage to see the original mock-up!!
really enjoy these deep dives into the attractions and what they could of have been but were changed into
Other notes:
* Tokyo Disneyland still features the portraits that stare at guests. This may also have inspired the busts that look around. Not only that, but the portraits display many of the monsters that would have shown up in cages during the early version as mentioned.
* There are also a few more Easter eggs to the early version added much later on.
Very informative and interesting. Thank you and keep up the awesome videos! 😃👍🏻
Glad to see Long Forgotten on your sources. It's my favorite go-to for Mansion esoterica and analysis.
Dan Olsen is a legend! His dedication to all things Haunted Mansion is absolutely incredible.
Interestingly, the Captain Gore storyline would serve as the basis for a Haunted Mansion comic book in 2005, published by Slave Labor Graphics (Yes, that's really the name, no I don't know why it's called that). It combines the original character of Captain Gore, renamed as Captain Blood, with the movie's version of Master Gracey, showing his time as a pirate before coming to acquire the Mansion.
The name of that comic company has bothered me forever. It's just called that because it was started by a gang of annoying edgelords. I believe they had a connection to the guy who created Invader Zim.
Tim O'Connor Always found the comic weird. We don’t know much about Gracey at all in the ride itself as we only see the portrait and gravestone. The fact that they also mash up the Ghost Host as well, with Gracey and Captain Gore is also bizarre. I much prefer Gracey and The Ghost Host as separate characters with mysterious backstories to not let it be clear of who they are. Captain Gore would be great in his own solo ride though. They should make one with him today.
So cool!! Sad that Walt passed when he did. I often wonder how different the mansion would be.
Brilliant. RIP Maelstrom on the opening credits.
Scrapple Jacks I miss Maelstrom so much. One of my favorite rides...😢
I also miss Malestom. Sad they got rid of an original ride not tied to a film
Funny how Haunted Mansion went from the ride that scared me the most to my personal favorite.
YES sir i’ve been waiting for this video!! busting out the Nutella for a good break.
I would most definitely love to see this second revision come to life. It sounds amazing.
Peter Lorre saying random guests' names would have been such a fun element.
love the vids found u 2 years ago and been committed ever since would love a TRON LAND episode bout how it was n california adventure for a time being and it evolved and was later transformed then discarded would love to hear bout it 🤘🙏
Nice work Yesterworld Love Your Work
Another great video! So many facts I never knew. Been binging ur vids ever since finding ur channel! I love the Eddie Murphy film, but I can't wait until we get Del Toro's adaptation tho!
Fantastic work as always.
Wonderful video. I love the Haunted Mansion!
Another homerun from Yesterworld. Great video!
No joke I love the intro it makes me laugh so much!
I recall that the original plan was it to have it be a retirement home for monsters in general as opposed to focusing on ghosts.
I'm literally cackling at this beginning bit oh my goodness
The only real horror in Disneyland is the prices.
keeps out the poor and undesirables
Colby Hart yes, unfortunately, I’m afraid you are right☹️
Why is that unfortunate
I don't know, 'It's a Small World' is pretty terrifying. As was the ballpit at Chip n' Dale's Treehouse.
Colby Hart discrimination, imho....
Love ur vids!
Wow that is surpassing and so interesting to learn about the transformation of what it started out as!
The original concept sounds amazing! I’ve never been to Disney land or world, but holy shit, if they had realized the original concept and it was in one of the parks that would be my first stop if I ever get to visit!
Nightwalker 4202 I also love the original concept! The only problem was that it was a bit too complex for the early 60s. A lot of the effects still needed to be perfected and would have been too much work. Had it been made today, then I bit everything could have gone a lot smoother. I wish they would remake the original idea today somehow. It’s too good of an idea to be abandoned permanently.
I was just watching your videos!, thank you for another one! You are awesome!! I love you and your videos!
When I went on the one in WDW it broke down and it literally said naughty spirits
Great video!
Your a really good CZcamsr keep up the good work
Another dope video
Great coverage
Some concepts was used in the Disney Halloween haunted house. Like locating in the Main Street, a bedroom and bathtub scene.
Yessss just in time for Halloween 🤩🎃
That Halloween intro tho. 👌
the "shhh you're ruining it" line to eddie murphy sent me
glad I saw the cool stuff in the 70's
14:18 "I was hoping this would be a happy ending" (Eddie Murphy as "Donkey" from the DreamWorks "SHReK" franchise).
