  • In this Video, My dad and I install the Iron Rock Off-road 5.5" lift on his 98 Grand Cherokee ZJ! The lift we used includes long arms in the front and short adjustable arms in the rear. We also Swapped to a high pinion dana 30 front axle from An 87 XJ, and a 44a from a 98 5.9 ZJ. Much more is on the way for His jeep in the future!

    Great video! Love it that you and your Pop are working together. I've been looking into the IRO 5.5 long arm kit and that's what brought me to your video. Thanks! The Jeeps look great! You've got my subscription & 👍

    Awesome video! I hope you know how fortunate you are to have a dad to do this stuff with

      Yessir. I am quite fortunate. I grew up with him teaching me about rock crawling and wanting to be just like him, and now I’ve drug him over to the overlanding side of things and he wants to be just like me hahaha kidding of course.. but not really..

    Lower that on lift 6-8” when working. No need to work overhead like that. Same w taking off and putting on tires. Leave it low.

      I prefer working at eye level and not adjusting the lift all the time haha I do pull it down when working outside but underneath I like it high 🤘🏼

    i hope you see this comment. if i put this lift on my 95 zj 4.0i, will i need longer driveshafts or will the stock ones work?

    • @WhateverWithWheels
      @WhateverWithWheels  Před 11 měsíci

      We used the stock drive shafts on this jeep! anything over 5.5” I would recommend a skip yolk eliminator and new rear shaft with a double Carson joint. It’s not a bad idea to do that with this 5.5” kit as well but you can get away with the stock one!

    Cool build. What gear ration did he end up going with?

    how are the short arms in the rear does it move the rear tires closer to the rear door. also do you have a limited slip yoke with the lift. learning about zjs suspensions

    • @WhateverWithWheels
      @WhateverWithWheels  Před rokem +1

      Yes setting flat with short arms the rear tires will typically set closer to the front of the fender opening. This is to allow the backward movement with upward articulation. My only complaint with the rear short arms is the flex steer when you really get it flexed up. It’s not a big deal but you have to account for it on some obstacles when picking tire placement. As far as the slip yokes, both mine and my dads ZJs are running the factory slip yoke driveshafts with no issues. I do plan to go to a slip yoke eliminator with a different drive shaft eventually but have had no issues this far.

      Do it man! They are a blast. Toyotas are cool but straight axle front ends are where it’s at.
