Fentanyl took the life of my cousins 18-year-old son a year and a half ago. Drug addiction affects the whole family and I commend Eric for choosing family over cardboard. Hope his sister recognizes the sacrifices her family is making for her well being and gets the help she needs.

I appreciate you sharing this, and I hope more is done to stop (preferably, of course), or limit (being realistic) the use of this evil drug, so that families like yours don't have to deal with another preventable loss.
@Johndeplume. thanks John. It's really sad what families have to go through when there's an addict in the mix. My cousins son had an injury in high school football and required surgery when he was 16. He was prescribed painkillers, got addicted and progressed from there. He was a quiet, good kid who just graduated high school a month before his death.

A lawyer wanting 150k for a drug addict in jail seems unreasonable. There is definitely more to the story, I worked in criminal courts for over a decade and I know from experience that it takes a hell of a case to amount that kinds of money. I wish her and him the best of luck! The fentanyl crisis is destroying families and communities across the nation. It's not just one area!
And getting hundreds of dollars a week for commissary does not make sense either. $50 a month would have you live comfortable in jail. Maybe he is selling to support his addiction.

@@frankonthego I had a murder charge years ago too. I was a teenager and my older friend beat someone up and that person unfortunately died. I had to go to a 5 day jury trial. It was a horrible experience. Hope you guys can get past that and move on. I apologize for being judgemental.

As a former addict thats been to jail/prison,i can tell you shes not buying 300$ a week in food, shes eating that food in there and paying for drugs that DO get through the jail. Addicts take advantage of people. Most folks wont realize that he said that .but i immediately thought hes supporting that drug habit and doesnt know.
That's exactly what I was thinking and the sad fact is once you're hooked on s*** like that there's only one way out for most and it's in a box.

Honestly I know this guy loves his sister, but I think her being in there is the best thing that could of happened to her. Once she gets out only a matter of time will tell if she was genuine. Heard lots of story of when first check hits they go and spend it all on drugs and are found later dead in a random spot. It takes a lot of wisdom and knowledge to try to help anyone in that situation.
Although I am not a fan of modern day cards, because I think the card companies are all in competition to provide the most limited variant cards, and they (as usual) have flooded the market with them, I do appreciate this gentleman’s enthusiasm for collecting, and his ability to place family over any perceived attachment to pieces of cardboard. Glad you were able to offer him even more than he expected, in order to help out his Mom and Sister.
Totally agree with your ultra modern take. Dont share that too much with others or the cards we actually go for will start flying up as more people realize the accuracy of your statement lol
We are the brink of another junk wax era. I watch tons of breaks. You see the same supposedly high end valuable cards. Everyone has tons of these cards. Value will be low soon. I have already seen rookie and high end star cards drop dramatically.
Always love the content and always excited when a new episode pops up. This one hit me different this time though. I myself have been through what this gentleman's sister is going through. 12 years ago it was me sitting in jail,lost everything important to me,and fighting for my life due to the disease of addiction. Thank you so much for bringing more awareness to the disease of addiction that is a major epidemic is this country. The stigma surrounding the disease of addiction still follows me even after 12 years of recovery. Its episodes like this that bring awareness. The cards take a backseat for me in this episode. Thank you so much for an amazing new episode. ❤❤

I'm 46 and couldn't agree more. I probably pissed away at least a quarter million just in the Jordan and Griffey cards I traded, sold for chump change or whatever for drugs and alcohol and can now proudly say I've been clean for almost seven years

@@game7productions49 such a bad epidemic that people put their life in danger for what? Living so far from my sister is hard so I know what he went through in losing 7 friends. His sister is going through a hard time so when you try to be there for family it is the only thing that matters. My sister has sacrificed her life for my nephews and grandchildren. She even took over custody of 3 of her grandsons. She gives everything but asks for nothing in return. Material things and money are just nothing but being there to talk or visit means everything.
Great episode as always! It certainly hits different when there's a very personal story behind the selling of a collection. Hoping the best for him and his family. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in cards I forget about how much some people struggle and what truly matters.
As a young 20s man when i first started ,who battled severe heavy daily opioid addiction for almost 9 years ,now 34 thats recovered and now is at rock bottom building life again through sports cards this hit home hard. The opioid crisis is destroying and killing family's daily and this is just one example of a man fighting for his family ,willing to give up his collection / prized possessions hes spent thousands of hours on to help his loved ones. Powerful stuff, you offering him 18k after he said 15k and was willing to even take less hit me man, i could see the pain relief and appreciation in his eyes after you said 18k, they totally shifted and went to an emotional place. Great video, people dont understand how much opioid addiction takes from people and their families, its a demon that destroys everything in its path. Doesnt matter if its oxycodone, fentanal , oxy, vicodine , heroine , its all the same shit ending with the same result. Itll take everything from you and your family , worst part is vast percentage of people who get addicted are legally prescribed it 1st. One of the worst things to ever happen to me ,if not the worst and its one of the worst things to ever happen to America fullstop.

As a teacher I literally today was at Keeping Young Student Athletes Safe Seminar which was all about opiod's and fetanyl. The statistics are staggering and the epidemic is terrifying. My favorite part of this episode is when you told him $15000 is too low! Well done! Your episodes aren't just about the cards but what those cards can do for people. Keep up the great work!

Nice show today, as I have viewed ,I think, all of your video's more than once. This particuler one I like because I am also an Eric and lives in washington state; Tenino is my small ,off the beaten path, town where I also collect Sports cards. I dont have as many as eastern WA ERIC But Ive been collecting since the 1978 season.But since 2018 to present I have had time to super organize them in alphabetical order with most recent cards up front down to his rookie card and prospect. I just collect but I might let it go for the right price, exept my beloved Mariners of course. You will have fun going through EAstern Erics collection, I know I would. I am an ex Heroin addict myself. My battle was 8 years long ( just to completely remove myself from opiates ) I hope people realize how difficult this addiction is to PERMANENTLY break. Most everyone who uses fentanyl and other opiates know exactly what they are doing and fentanyl death is extremely rare as far as an individual not knowing they are using or attempting to use fentanyl. I only say that because it’s almost becoming a regular excuse as if these individuals aren’t addicts but that they accidentally came across fentanyl while living a perfectly normal life and it somehow ended up in there pasta, beer, weed etc. Once you open Pandora’s box it’s almost impossible to get back on track without your life , emotions, mental and physical health being forever impacted. Good luck and all things can come to good for you and your family and I truly wish and pray for her success :)

When this episode popped up and I saw Mike I started to think about “On the Fly” and you starting to talk about the concept on this show. Never thought you’d still be doing it just knowing the amount of work it would take . You must have a great team to keep this rolling at the level you do. it’s one thing to spend a bunch of money and find these collections, but to actually put the work in to make these cards available and sell them quick enough to keep the money rolling can’t be easy .
Wow! This episode could have went really deep. Not that It wasn't already with the reality of addiction.
However there could have been a deeper dive.
I guess maybe I just wanted a longer episode because I was so into it, I did not want it to end, And I wanted to hear more of the story and I thank him for letting that story be public.
Just look at the comments and so many have been affected, either ourselves or by friends and family.
So many of us related and the cards became almost secondary to me.
They were a part of the story but they became not the main character for me.
Anyways, that's just a fans. Ramble 🙂 Great job with the storytelling And thanks to the whole crew.

We can all get stuck in that mindset of trusting people simply because they are old and got something a while ago. But we all have to learn that everyone gets fooled and people lie at all ages and stages. I've seen 6 figure collections riddled with fakes because some people just buy buy buy!

I live in St. Louis MO in the city I have lost too many friends to count to heroin and fentanyl but one thing that I have realized about this county the 45 years that I have been alive is that if it wasn't fentanyl it would be something else I realize its a big deal but if it wasn't fentanyl it would be something else. I guess I just don't understand why its like that but one I do know for sure is that everyone has a choice and some of us don't make the best ones!
Exactly, this guy states that his sister was a 4.0 student. She should have know better than to get mixed up with drugs. I was a 2.0 student and had enough common sense to stay away from drugs. That I wanted to have a happy and healthy life. People just put the blame on everyone else these days rather than owning up to their own mistakes and facing the consequences.

whats crazy to me is these episodes are great! the cards and collections are great! the editing/video is phenomenal ! the stories are awesome. its entertaining you learn a ton. the love for the hobby is there. He is a beautiful man. Thank you for posting this. You are both great. Even a better thing might be is for you to donate a small percentage of your profits to the cause In some way. That would be wonderful.
I would have felt the opposite of this guy about a seller in his 80’s that bought the autographed baseballs in the 80’s. That and the early 90’s were peak times for forgers and the FBI was constantly raiding shops and shows of people selling the fakes. Also the fact of him saying that the signatures lined up perfectly would have been a red flag.
Wish this guy and his family the very best. 150k for an attorney is very high l hope they are not being taken advantage of during this time. We are all rooting for his sister to get out and be the woman she once was

budddy the best thing for your sister is to let her do her time and work the programs they offer nowi lost 3 siblings and I came in contact with it almost died so I know all about it....that shit was killing 1 person perday in my town!!!!!!
she has been in the program and getting a lot of help from the inside!!.. this is why we have not bailed her out to keep her safe and away from the drugs. it is a hard thing to deal with for sure.
I fight with addiction everyday still. Heroin and fentanyl are a serious drug and yeah I still struggle with it but I'm slowly getting away from it. One day at a time

I am an ex drug addict and i did state prison time as well. $ 300-400 a week in prison is a ton of money. she could eat like a queen for $100-$150 a week !
you are right the money goes to phone calls and food cost also we send books or help buy close it adds up quickly we spend abut 100 a week on food to help out only because jail food sucks lol
That guy you're speaking to also has a addiction... you'll be surprised on what a addict will do or say. Anything and I'm talking absolutely anything out of their mouth is a lie. But it's usually always over an emergency. And I'm 99.9% sure that he's addicted
