  • Wisdom teeth, or the third set of molars, typically grown in during the late teens or early 20s. Depending on the size of the patients' mouth, and the position of the teeth as they emerge, wisdom teeth can be a source of severe pain and discomfort. Further, teeth that are impacted or only partly erupted can cause a number of complications including trauma and pain to neighboring teeth and the gum. In the case where wisdom teeth properly emerge and align harmoniously with other teeth, and the gum tissue around the teeth is healthy, wisdom teeth can remain in place. However, more often than not, wisdom tooth removal is needed as teeth are unable to easily emerge. A patient's wisdom teeth can come forth in several ways, including only partially emerging, emerging sideways, or completely remaining below the gumline and creating pressure and pain in the mouth. Thankfully, extracting impacted wisdom teeth is the recommended method to resolve the issue.
The procedure is done while the patient is under IV sedation therapy, while also receiving a painkilling medication to ensure the patient is relaxed and does not feel any discomfort. Dr. Aalam or Dr. Krivitsky will perform either a simple or surgical extraction, to remove the wisdom teeth. Removing wisdom teeth is the preferred method of treating impacted teeth, resolving pain and discomfort, and an important way to maintain optimal oral health.

Wisdom teeth are the last motors that you have inside your mouth; they're the last range of teeth that you have in your upper and lower jaws. Most of the time, due to the discrepancy between the tooth size and the jaw size, these wisdom teeth, these third molars gets stuck under the gums and stop creating problems such as inflammation of the gums or creating decay behind the last molar to the fact there are just impossible to clean, and for that reason recommend our patients to have those wisdom teeth removed if they have the early signs of gum disease or decay forming on those.

I was told at 15 that my wisdom teeth would need to be removed. At that time my dentist had extracted some other teeth because my mouth was too small and I was getting braces. Because I had other teeth extracted, it ended up making room for my wisdom teeth which all came in just fine in my early 20s. I’m now in my mid-50s and I have never had any trouble with them!

I always get mouth sores at the side of my mouth because both of my upper wisdom teeth are sharp. But all of my wisdom teeth grew out properly not impacted or anything. Do i have to get them removed? If not all maybe the upper wisdom teeth since they sometimes cause wounds and mouth sores on both sides of my cheeks.
