My favorite substrate as a beginner is a repurposed cabinet door.

I'll answer the question! I enjoy using thinset. Using it outside gives me a reason to be in the fresh air and clean up is a breeze with the garden hose. With the leftover thinset, I put it in molds and make things to paint. Waste not, want not! And mosaicing is a word because we use it. Webster probably wouldn't like our spelling, but who asked him? Ha! Thanks teacher lady, you've helped me a lot!
