When this first aired, my Mother didn't want me to watch it because it was such a bad influence on a 9 year old. But, somehow I found a way to watch this groundbreaking comedy. It was so different from anything else and really reflected the direction things were taking in 1968. 57 years later, it's so fun to see this again, especially this episode with Sally Field because I married a cute girl that looked kind of like Sally. And that cute girl is still my beautiful and fun wife.
This is so nostalgic :) Even though I was 12 at the time, much of the humor slipped over my head, lol. The graphics, colors, music and dancing were reflective of the times, with the go-go dancing and such. Even though these were around earlier in the decade during the afternoon weekday teen music pop shows, this program brought it to prime time.
That trippy, multicolor back wall is the same design as my swimsuit from 1969. And I still have the bottom piece! (The top disappeared years ago) I'm proud to say that I can still fit into it. It was a size 16 girls, and it was a bit big on me then because my mother was always buying us clothes that we could "grow into", lol
L-I was the midseason 1968 replacement for the canceled Man From UNCLE. One of its writers was a very young Lorne Michaels, who went on to create SNL 7 years later. Dick Nixon's cameo that year ("Sock it to ME?") was the first time a major politician appeared on a comedy show. It was designed to be a suburban middle class primer on hippie and youth culture.
We weren't allowed to watch it either but we had a storage room with a tiny, portable b&w tv so we'd sneak in there. I still have a huge crush on Goldie. Sorry, Kurt.
Today, with all the streaming and gazillion channels available there is nothing worth watching. As a kid, TV only had about five or six channels and PBS. Everything on them were great.
I know what you mean. I was about 10 years old when I started watching this show and although I didn't understand everything they were talking about the show seemed relevant to what was going on in the world at that time. Now when I watch one of these shows I can only make it about half way through because nothing is relevant anymore. A few jokes still make me laugh but lots of them are just sorta stupid.
Truth be told, it wasn't funny then and it's not funny now. Remembering watching as a kid waiting for it to be funny. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. That horrid laugh track seemed to mock the absence of actual humor. It IS a cool time capsule, though. Goldie and Sally were adorable. Still are.
Your opinion was definitely a minority opinion This was the top rated show on TV in it's first season. An absolute smash hit that millions of people thought was hilarious, including me.
But we had another generation watching films like Dumb and Dumber where there was a long fart joke sequence...gee, what an intellectually funny experience that was.

I just realized how this may have inspired the GONG SHOW.
I was very fortunate as a child I spent a lot of time in the hospital and watched it in the hospital. I wasn't allowed to watch it either.

Why is this funnier and better than what's on TV these days? No, I mean, seriously. 🤔
Do you really need to ask?
Most humor/satire is written in the context of the times when created.
Because back then people had class, finesse, humor and weren't such spoiled, uptight tight azzes like today. In other words....IDIOTS.
Amazing seeing both a young Goldie and Sally there "dancing" like that
I love Sally Fields, used to watch Laugh In every week and so did everyone else, The party, mod mod world, fickle finger of fate, sock it to me!
You bet your bippy!
I was in love with Sally, and Goldie.
I didn't know anyone who wasn't, they were gorgeous
@@toddricketts9498 Too bad Sally was a nun.
@@richardgreenwood6474True, but she could fly.
I’m still in love with them… Burt Reynolds regretted loosing sally to his last breath.
Goldie & John Wayne. Time sure has flown.
Silly and hilarious!! Love this show!!🥰💕

A trip to the past, fantastic! Groovy!!😂❤
Arte Johnson had a really good voice
Sally was so beautiful 😍 ❤😊
That is Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In very funny
Not funny at all.Sixty minutes of bordom.

Verrrry interesting.....
More comedy and fast paced jokes/skits per minute than ever before.

Dan Rowan embodied coolness.
Sally fields danced like Julie Louis Dreyfus
I think everyone at the party dances like Julie Louis Dreyfus. 😂
LMAO!!!!
I loved Sally then and I love her still.
I was inn4th grade when this show came out, remember it fondly, it made SNL possible
I was thinking, the Gong show...lol...
New subscriber. Thank you for the great memories!!
Arte Johnson was so damn funny...
CHEERS Crackle
I hadn't seen Laugh-In since I was a kid. Now it strikes me how much it owes to Ernie Kovacs.
Also owes to Richard Lester and Peter Sellers.
Funny stuff!
Glad I subscribed.
Thanks for bringing these shows back since I did not have a chance to view them when originally aired.
🙈🙉🙊 😎 🇺🇸
Thanks so much for subscribing!
11:11 Dick's watch flies off onto the floor
And being the trouper he is, he never misses a beat. Maybe he just didn't notice, given his enthusiastic gesticulations.
I've always been a whirly bird.
oh this must have been the time that Eartha Kitt blasted the Vietnam war ,cause of the joke that was on the show
They're so hip!
The announcer looks like he sounds, a real rarity in the announcer profession.
Gary Owens was a master and this is what he did his entire life. He was an announcer, DJ, radio personality and voice actor for cartoons.
Amazing . Not one "laugh in" it.
OMG always that cig!
I think Dan died of cancer, lung cancer. Karl
that's right, John, Sock It To Him!
Funny!
Goldie 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤
5-15-2024. I wonder what they did with the set?
We weren't allowed to watch it either but we had a storage room with a tiny, portable b&w tv so we'd sneak in there. I still have a huge crush on Goldie. Sorry, Kurt.

Nonsense that is funnier than non funny comedy today
Dan Rowen doesn't look right without his moustache.
when i watched all these shows on tv when they were new they actually seemed funny, but watching them now is a waste of time.

What was funny then comes off as silly and down right dippy now.
Laugh-In hasn't aged well at all.
It was weird and not funny then and now it's just stupid.
Agreed, I never could get into this show.
But we had another generation watching films like Dumb and Dumber where there was a long fart joke sequence...gee, what an intellectually funny experience that was.
Wonder if anyone knew that Dick was the real swinger in the Rowan and Martin team.
