  • Hey everyone, today I'm going to show you how to create a pixel effect that resembles a monochrome phone screen. You've probably seen these before on old Nokia phones. I wanted to do this effect for some time now, and I finally got the hang of it (I think). If you have suggestions on how to improve it, let me know in the comments!
    00:00 Introduction
    00:23 Setting up the composition
    01:13 Adding the Pixel Effect
    01:48 Adding color
    02:20 Adding the LCD screen effect
    05:45 Scaling the design up

    3:00 to increase the number of squares, drag out the size of the grid you want and without releasing the mouse, tap on your arrow keys to increase/decrease no. of columns/widths

    I've actually gotten to use this for making quick 8-bit or 16-bit assets for a game one of my friend is creating. It's very useful when animating so I don't have to go in and change each individual pixel when animating and instead I can draw and then apply what I've learned from this video. It has saved me hundreds of hours of work. Thank you.

    I really want to buy your stuff for photoshop but it's just so expensive for me :(((((( 1 euro is 6,87 reais (I'm brazilian), it's almost 7x more expensive and that's something I just really can't afford right now thanks to our "president" lol but anyway, just wanted to thank you for making all these tutorials for us, not everyone likes to share their knowledge for free and i'm really grateful for that.

    I don't get it how to scale up? Ctrl+alt+shift+i don't work :(

    How did you get the grid lines to match the pixel density in the thumbnail? Noticed in the tutorial they didn’t match

    • @Dreadlabs
      @Dreadlabs  Před 2 lety +2

      You can scale the texture so that it matches! If the texture ends up being too small you can duplicate it on each side

    This might sound crazy but i was wondering why all of your recent projects were in 72dpi ? You never work in 300 ?

    • @user-dh2bz7gc2o
      @user-dh2bz7gc2o Před 3 lety

      I've seen so many people on insta us 72dpi is there something we dont know?

    • @Dreadlabs
      @Dreadlabs  Před 3 lety +4

      Hi Beau, I think that's just a coincidence! For print projects I always work in 300 and for screen posts (social media assets etc) I work in 72 dpi. For tutorials I sometimes just quickly make a new document with my last used settings, so a recent project I did in Photoshop before recording probably just had those settings!

      @@Dreadlabs Ok thanks !!! I guess that im always scared that im gonna need a design in full res to print it at one point that i always make my documents 300 ..
