- Some background on the job. This wasn't a normal "professional" call, this particular time I was just helping out a friend after work. Gave me some troubleshooting footage to demonstrate the importance of testing and NOT throwing parts at vehicles.
I know there may be some grief on the "gapping" section, as some don't believe Platinum Plugs should be gapped or changed from how they are shipped from manufacturer. I'm going by what I've always been told and taught, from those quite reputable in the industry. You decide for yourself there. Thanks

It's good to have friends, especially when they bring a tool box and have mad skills! Thanks for the reminder about Super Saturday. I can't plan that yet but I've marked it on my calendar.
Hahaha! #truth.
Man! I hope you can make it friend! Would be great to see you again! Hope all is well with you sir! 😊😊🤗🤗
No tools check not the proper gear check grade A technician check equals a superb fix. Ms. Cuba, phenomenal just plain phenomenal work
Ooooh. Thanks so much! 😁😶🤗🤗
Thank you Cuba. Good job. Have a blessed and safe week.
Aww. Thank you Bill! Stay cool this wknd! 😊🤗
Thanks for a great Test Not Guess video! You went straight to the problems! Be careful with this heatwave and
TakeCare,
Bill
Mehh. I did assume in the beginning, but got back on track once I verified a couple things. Thank goodness nothing was needlessly replaced this time around! Lol
Yeah, trying my best to stay cool & hydrated. Almost over... 😊🤗thanks for watching!
Proper diagnostics! You did good, Cuba. Always enjoys your vids. Good sense of humor.
Thank you. I hope I wasn't too rough with customer/friend. Explaining throughout the troubleshooting the vehicle 😅😅😅
Thanks for the compliment!😊😊🤗🤗
@@CubasAutomotive nah, he's a big boy now. I charge extra when the customer questions what I'm doing.
Great video Cuba! I cant wait for Super Saturday! Its going to be a blast.
Thanks Pj! I'm so stoked for SS too! Training events like these give me this extra punch of motivation that lasts for wks! Plus I can't wait to meet up with everyone again!! 😊😉🤗
Good job, I like your methodical thought process when you diagnose. Nice find on the rotor arm, Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words! 😊
Thanks for the informative video.
Nice find and fix Cuba! Hopefully your friend cooks better than he works on cars. lol
Oh yeah! He's amazing in the kitchen! Comes out with some amazing flavors!
Literally a needle in a haystack! :) Awesome logical approach Cuba 👍 keep them comin!
The gauge has an issue with the Schrader valves. I removed all of mine, i have the same kit lol. Yes its messy, but it works, just gotta be careful!
Hopefully I'll make it to SS and see everyone there 👍
Interesting about the Schrader valves... I was suspecting the little seal being non rated for ethanol. Already bought another different company as a backup. I'll try that!
I'm hoping you'll make it too! I think it'll be awesome knowing what to expect this time around! 😊😊🤗🤗
Just think how many people would have put a pump on this by the quick drop in fuel pressure. That's awesome u continued to test and seen u had enough pressure that should've started the vehicle and turned in the other direction. Take care Mrs. Cuba 🤗🤗
You heard the owner.... he wanted to order one even before I came to check it out. I appreciate the kind words, thanks Chulo! 😊🤗🤗
No hablo English muy bien pero estoy aca gracias a la charla con los otros tecnicos, soy nuevo suscriptor y mis respetos Cuba
Interesting case here Cuba. Great find on the distributor rotor!
I think these older Nissan's had a FP bleed down on a prime and it was relatively normal from the factory if I remember right. I have seen this before and it is deceiving to say the least.
Good thing you continued to test before calling a bad FP, but it's difficult to condemn a FP with the current ramp check, a quick visual flow check, and when you have pressure like that.
Faulty Fuel Pressure gauge always throws a variable in there as well!
Great video Cuba!
It was wrench after wrench, thrown at me on this job... and customer insisting on throwing parts at it too. Lol ughhh... but like you said, I stuck to it. Sometimes that's why I prefer to work alone. No whispers in my ear.😉😉
Thanks for commenting Pauly!😊🤗🤗
Hey, you got it. Old school stuff, and I forgot to check ✔️ but you reminded me of that and you were right about it. I found a loose 🔩 inside of the distributor. Thank you.
That's awesome! Thanks for the comment! 😊
Time for a new fuel gauge 🤔 Great video Cuba. Wish you made more 😉 Thanks for sharing 👍
Yeah! Already ordered it.. lol. Man, tool quality is not what it used to be. I'm finding it hard to find one that withstands ethanol. 😑😑
I haven't done many vehicles lately. Lots of appliance repair, and presently covering a PC repair store & installing security cameras for a friend while he's away in FL doing a big job for the month. Lol
Great Job on the fix.
Thanks Big Daddy!! Lol 😉
Hi , its just so awesome to see a woman know what she is doing under the hood , i dont see that very often at all , i am always helping my friends with their cars . my friends car is doing the same thing , 1999 Altima , will not start , she said it was running fine , got gas at wal mart and it ran really rough after that , now it wont start at all , im not sure if its just bad gas ? going to have to go into diagnoses mode , your Lucky , that was an easy fix ! Lol , thanks for the video ! peace ...
I find it very rare that bad gas exists... usually happens after bad storms... or flooding. What I most commonly see is choosing the wrong fuel. Maybe E85 in a non Flex fuel system... or diesel. Don't ask me HOW they can even do that with the nozzle difference alone. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Sounds like fun though. Thanks for the comment.😁😊
Welcome back Cuba. I've missed you.💝💝💝💝
Did you receive your sticker? Made it alright?
@@CubasAutomotive I did. Thank you.
Good work, Cuba 👍
Thanks a lot Jake! I appreciate you stopping by! 😊
Good video Cuba. Kinda odd the screw came out of the rotor. Nice find and repair. Good of you to help a friend out like that too. I'll be at SS. See you there.
Oh sweet! Love it! Can't wait to meet you! This year will be epic! Hoping this will allow next year to be a 2 day event! 😊🤗
Well done my friend! I’ll try to be there for SS
Awesome! I know you'll try! Take care my friend! 😊🤗
Nice video & diag Cuba!
Thank you sir!! 😊😊😊
Nice diagnoses and repair Cuba
Thanks Jim! Always a pleasure when you stop by! 😊🤗
professional approach in Diagnosis
I appreciate that Sylvin. 😊 Thank you
good job👍
Thanks George! 😊
seen that before with reman.... one time I went through 3 of them with its junk falling apart but nice fix!
Oh that stinks! Remans.. ugh! I hear ya!
Thanks for the nice words! 😊

Thanks Nick! You're too kind! Cheers my friend 😊
Ivan would be proud Cuba
Yeah! "No parts needed" lol
Спасибо.
I’m asking for spark and you looking for fuel pressure ???
Nice job Cuba! Distributor is always suspect on those Altimas. But what's up with the fuel pressure gauge? That would drive me nuts! Now you have to diagnose your gauge ;)
Wow! So you're the 2nd person to say that about the Altima. Interesting. I don't see many Nissans here anymore, used to be the old pathfinders & blown headgaskets. Lol.
Yeah, gotta love faulty equipment! 😅😥 Lucky, Mario, from Super Mario Diagnostics told me how to repair it. He has the same one & says it's common.... smh😑
But lucky for me, a viewer -John "a guy on a sticker mission", sent me a new one. OTC. Looking forward to testing it out.
Hey, remember me?, the guy on the sticker mission. I got your envelope in the mail and as you may recall I asked for two stickers...I got one. Kind of a funny story there. I just got a new video camera that looks smarter than me so as soon as I conquer that I will send you an Email with a video attachment. May be good for a laugh. Great video, Thanks for sharing dear.
Oh no! You asked for 2 from me? I'm sorry. I'll send out another! Haha a camera that looks smarter than you? Lol I'm looking forward to it! 😆
@@CubasAutomotive Hey Cuba, check your email. I'm trying to send you something
Hola Cuba! Donde has estado?
Trabajando en todo menos automóviles... jajaj. I'm covering for a pc repair and security camera store.
Tell your friend to stop installing car parts, and stick to cooking Hahahaha. Great video Cuba.
Lol. I know he means well and does like to tinker. He's gotten better over the yrs. Thank goodness the "chef-ing" is out of this world! I almost like when the cars have little issues, I get to eat some amazing food while there! Lol 😅😅
Thanks 009to090! 😊🤗
Nice work... I might have ...one end has a spark plug..NO. 😂😂
Ahhhh. Man!! Yeah.... I was cracking up in editing.... lol 😂😂😂
Gracias! 😊
NCNS= spark tester, fuel psi tester, noid light, next lab scope crank and cam, last compression. But before you touch it, you ask WTF did you do and you start there. Check their work first. Never take somebody else's word it was done correctly if you didnt do it.
So the rotor IS keyed, the screw just stops it from sliding off the shaft. It wasn't spinning around like she implied. The loose screw would have shorted the spark to ground intermittently as it tumbled around inside the cap, is what the actual fault was...FYI. Otherwise an overall decent diagnoses video. Personally I'd have looked at spark first, before the fuel, but that's only because it's the easiest thing to check...
1. Yes, I know the rotor is keyed, however there was enough slop or the screw being flung around under the cap was enough to prevent proper spark from functioning... proof is, it's been fine ever since. Started right up after repair.
2. I get where you're coming from... thinking ease of testing, however I was going after customer's symptoms. It wasn't an immediate cutoff, like that of lost ignition... it was bucking and would sputter like that of lack of fuel. It is what it is.
funny thing is, I've seen that more than a few times on other Nissans! deja vu lol
threadlocker is your best friend on those, if not blue on the threads, then green on the head/washer rotor. clean with alcohol good.
Wow.... it's the 1st time for me, and unfortunately no locktite on hand, only super glue. At least if it happens again, it'll be quicker diag. Lol
Thanks for the input. I had no idea it was that common....
it may not be for others that haven't dealt with lots of aftermarket, junkyard, rebuilt and other people half stripping things lol
@@throttlebottle5906 😂😂😂 love the honesty!
Do you have a power probe ? It's a great Tool .
Yes I do! EricO from SouthMainAuto gifted me one. It is a great tool, but also dangerous if unaware of what circuit you're woking on, such "powering" something to the PCM and shorting something. Lol Thanks for commenting!
@@CubasAutomotive yw . yes you have to have a diagram . That was cool of Eric O .
Hey Cuba! Long time no see! Figured you were busy. That time of year! Nice diag!
Looks like that gauge needs a whack or 2. ;) I have an air pressure gauge that did that (sticks), and then finally failed, showing 12 PSI at rest. Can't get good ANYTHING these days. Thing wasn't cheap, either. :(
I've been slackin' on the vids myself - I try to get one out a week, but editing takes forever. I've got 3 shot, but can't find the time to edit. My computer needs a memory upgrade, and in order to do that, I could shoot a 1 hour long video on that process alone. Have to knife the glass off the front, and completely disassemble the whole computer down to nothing (iMac, but the small one - figures! Try to save a buck and it bites me down the road every time ...) - every component has to come out. Must be a GM or Ford engineered computer here, LOL!
Hope everything's good out there. Take care. :)
OMG! ! I can't stand type of PCs! Lol. Who are you kidding, GOOD quality is almost nonexistent these days... but like you said, costs an arm and a leg still. 😖
Yeah, unbelievable how much work! I always forget how busy the "busy season" is! I totally hear ya on the editing. I'm trying so hard not to record too much and make it to the point, so there's less editing to do. Just omit the blunders etc.. lol. Ugh editing stinks!!
Take care sir! Always a pleasure to hear from you! Have an amazing & productive week! 😊🤗🍺🍺🍺
@@CubasAutomotive - I hear that, Cuba!
Thanks, and have an amazing & productive week yourself. :)
Cuba Superwoman thank you very much again very nice video I love and I love your videos so far I got three videos watching for you thank you I also heard you have a daughter she must be proud of you you’re a strong single mom much power do you. Much respect thank you very pretty too👀🇲🇽🇺🇸🌿🐼
Fuel presure gauge bad connection.
Was that job done today?
No, it was done just a couple days ago... I think Monday or Tuesday. I did a little bit over the course of 2 days. Spared a few minutes after work, but since he's a chef, he also fed me. 😉 Think I spent a total of 2 hrs or so. And the rest chit-chatting with their family.
@@CubasAutomotive is there any way we can meet or talk?
Sounds like Emmaus PA...
I have been there.... installed a waste heater. Yeah, does sound a little like it. You would never guess the area I was in was just a little borough and nowhere near as large as Emmaus. Lol 😆 😅
Do you have a facebook if I may ask ?
No problem with you asking.
I do, but it's only my personal page for now. I have started setting up 1 just for the work I do but it's not live or published yet. Same name as YT channel. I hope to get it up by the end of the month and transfer many of my albums of jobs to there. I wear many "hats", so that would have appliance & PC repairs on the FB page.
@@CubasAutomotive are you single if I may ask respectfully
@@michaelmcfarland3108 been with an officer for the last 11yrs. 😊
Cuba is the #1 female mechanic in Pennsylvania.
I appreciate the love Jeremy! 😊😊🤗🤗
@@CubasAutomotive no problem
Looks like the owner was screwed... or in this case... not screwed. ;D
Hahaha! 😂😂 Yeah. I had no idea how common of an issue this is, especially on distributors preassembled! I also had no idea their rotor was screwed in. Not many vehicles were like that. Goes to show, where throwing parts at it would've gotten the customer nowhere.....
You need to buy a better fuel gauge.
Thanks to another viewer, John Turner, I'm much better prepared. I had a few.... good brands like OTC, and can't remember the other one but each had their issues. Unbelievable the quality of some tools. 🙄
My 98 Altima had a P0340 code, which pointed to bad distributor. I changed it and the car started. I'm now getting P1320 for ignition coil. Does this mean the new distributor is bad?
I don't have no codes on a 2000 Nissan Altima and no spark I have an Autel im508 to pull codes car will not start.
Would love your input on my 2001 nissan altima. Turns over every time for both mechanics. Seems to be heat related. Starts great when it's been a few hours, in the garage...even in the sun. But if I drove it like 30 min, then parked, and go to start, this happens. czcams.com/video/-Hgm5L-6wEA/video.html. And not all the time. Just sometimes. Happened 6 separate times since Sat. after driving. Then drives great. Fuel pump, sparks, alternator all have been checked. Mechanic still has.
So mine was also the distributor. Brian was able to recreate the issue by letting the car run 45min, shutting it off, then the sound you hear above. czcams.com/video/-Hgm5L-6wEA/video.html
Oh my goodness! I'm only NOW seeing this, and by accident. I'm so sorry for not seeing this sooner. My sincerest apologies!
However, I'm glad you found out what was wrong with your vehicle! Did this even help you or them to check it? Or to be on the path to the issue? Just curious. Thanks for your comments. I wish i would've seen them! 😓😔
Can you email me again?
I'll try but I've been swamped. Sorry
@@CubasAutomotive it's ok. Btw. I just bought an autel al319 code scanner. Works great. I love it.
@@SuperScopeLLC i was thinking that or the hose after the pump in the tank unit split
It's actually normal for this particular vehicle. I was able to test same model, different yr, and had the same results. That's the trouble with working on so many different makes.
Sorry Chris, for not seeing this until now. I like the thought process though! 😉😊
