- Giuseppe De Nittis was a unique painter and an outsider whom the impressionists asked to join with them in their inaugural exhibit in Paris. De Nittis only exhibited with the first showing of the group but remained close to them, he chose to work independently and was a popular artist in his host city of Paris, he did not know the language when he arrived as a young painter but soon rose to fame and fortune both in Paris and London choosing to paint real people of the everyday experience. His brief life was a triumph and he was among the most cordial of painters.

Lovely documentation of one of my favorite painters! I saw some of his paintings at Musee D’Orsay in Paris almost a decade ago and very much became my favorite for his ability to produce a hybrid style of Impressionism and realism fused together in a marvelous manner!
Sink me! How did this gentleman and his art elude me for 77 years? Yes, this is an admission of a dull researcher. How beautiful are his works, and how wonderful he at last earned an immense and good reputation, and at last could buy a house... in Paris! Thank you very much for this most charming introduction to a great artist.💐
I agree. I’m 60 and have had the pleasure of formal education in Contemporary painting, yet de Nittis has not once ever passed before my radar. Exquisite impressionist. Deeply grateful for the introduction.
Amazing!! Thank you.
Thank you for covering artist who are great talents, but a little lesser known to the public.
Thanks. De Nittis was an impressive artist that I never heard of, along with many others not covered by today's celebrity press and critics.
I have never heard of this phenomenal artist I love his work so very much and his work. Thank your kindness for posting
Thanks!
Truly appreciate your Super thanks, it will help our research efforts !
What an amazing artist. Thank you so much for presenting.
This was an amazing insight into a wonderful painter I knew nothing about.
Thank you.
Fantastic. And what a loss the he left us so early. Thank you for bringing him back.
Every time you upload, it makes my day happy !
The woman in black with the big dog is exquisite, who was she I wonder? The painting is also exquisite.
A remarkable talent indeed, and very well presented . Enjoyed, thank you
Thank you very much! Your great work is so important. Wish you health and inspiration. With respect.
I am drawn (no pun intended) much more to paintings of this type and quality. Unlike those I viewed recently of kate sable, featured in the Washington Post .."whose appeal is immediate but whose meaning is private." The same can be said of these but to me in a more charming way. Thank you for your video .
All I can say is thank you!
One look at his dazzling work made me hungry to see everything from his hand. Thank you so much for this introduction - I immediately subscribed to your channel!
I was unaware of his incredible artwork and am so pleased that you shared this body of work. He reminds me of John Singer Sargent--one of my favorite artists. Thank you!
Yes, I think so too, the woman in black with the big dog is one of the best paintings I have seen
An amazing artist, whom I had never heard of before!
...che la sua città dovrebbe conoscere meglio...
Subscribed ! Thanks 👍
Welcome! Thanks !
thank you! wow the light and colour!
Glad you like it!
it is a brave thing to go far away with only a little money to start something. i did it once, in a country where i knew the language, and a bit more money than he had, and it was hard enough
Thank you, we will be sure to recognize them in future Presentations.
Thanks for your efforts. Another relatively unsung ‘hero’ who’s work is worthy of more exposure. I had heard of him, having hung one of his paintings in an exhibition at Exeter’s RAMM museum some 20+ yrs ago in an exhibition called Inspired by Italy, curated by Prof Sam Smiles. I haven’t seen any other examples of his work so it was a pleasure to see such a wide range of superb pieces in your video whilst listening to your interesting narrative. There’s a channel called Unsung heroes of illustration by Pete Beard, which features a lot of talented artists and illustrators (many cross over occupations) most of which have hardly been heard of these days. It’s a good source of interesting information. Co-incidentally RAMM also featured an exhibition of RH Ives Gammell around that time which I also hung.
Thanks, and there are many works by De Nittis that are only in old repros that hopefully will appear, Pete Beard does an excellent job with his Videos, all good for us to see real talent at work.
New sub here. This was wonderful.. thank you!

Did he paint from photos? Many Impressionists etc. at the time achieved people in 'mid-action" by using the aid of photos.
Battle of Solferino, bigger than Waterloo, Napolean lll, 1859. Italy gained independence from the Austrian Empire.
Napoleon III and VITTORIO EMANUELE II
Just on the strength of the thumbnail, I'm a bit annoyed that I'm only just now learning of this artist. Assuming this is typical of his style, I like it very much...and I have nothing but respect for artists who does scenes of the ordinary people. I find pictures that show me what normal people looked like, how they dressed, work they performed, etc. It's easy to find information about rulers and the aristocracy, but not so easy to learn about poor people. I grew up dirt poor, so I feel a connection to poor people...and I really find most rich people uninteresting.
