This solo live performance by Bobby Hatfield of “Unchained Melody”, while not the first rendition, is widely considered to be the best, as well as to be one of the top five live performances of all time. It is widely considered to be the single best performance of this song, of all time.
Bobby Hatfield and his singing partner, Bill Medley, put “blue eyed soul” on the musical map.
One man, one microphone, no autotune, no computer tricks. Just pure talent and that rarest of all singing voices, the contra tenor. Brilliant. Timeless and brilliant.

That was a wonderful thing for you to do. To bring back all those memories for your mum at the end, bless you, you would have made her passing so much more peaceful. My mum didn’t die of Covid19 but a mixed type dementia 3 yrs ago during covid that took her within a year. She was saved the years of decline and was able to die at home. She was at peace while I played the Irish songs she loved including I’ll Take You Home Again Kathleen, and I Wish I Was In Carrickfergus, she died with a smile on her face as I sang along quietly. As hearing is the last sense to leave, I’m comforted that she had that experience as I’m sure your mum did too.
Take care, love from Northern Ireland xx

I was an 80's child raised on music daddy grew up listening to. Watching these type of reactions to music I've known my entire life is probably just as much to me as it is to those who actually grew up with this being the music they had available at the time. The thing I probably miss the most about my father is riding next to him in his truck as a young child, shifting the gears for him and listening to truly great music that was so full of emotion and soul. Boy I could shift gears like no one's business before I could ever reach the pedals. Every time I hear this type of music, I can smell the exhaust from that old truck, the smell of the stale cigarette butts in the ashtray and see the smile on daddy's face.

My wife and I had this song played at our wedding in 1991. I loved since the first time I heard it 10 to 15 years before that. Loved it in the movie, Ghost, which was one of my wife's favourite films. Sadly, my beautiful wife passed away suddenly, on 1st Sept, 2004. We had 4 primary school aged kids at the time. Now, every time I hear this song the memories of that day come flooding back and make the tears just pour down my cheeks. I'm 70 now and this wonderful song, sung by one of two very talented men, is still great, maybe perennial. Just look at the faces of Empress JoyJean and TooSushi. They get it. Beautiful.

We melted into each other’s arms as we slow danced, like no other slow dance and would get lost in this beautiful love song. It would give me the shivers - I don’t know how else to describe it ! My love and I grew so close Thru this song when suddenly war broke out suddenly and he was snatched away. It’s been decades gone by and I was never able to find out what happened to him. Just that he was on an Aircraft Carrier
And something horrible happened. I still cry when I hear this song. I still wonder where he is.

A small club near El Toro Marine Base in So. California. A black Marine stood up and called out, "That's righteous, brothers!" A : while later, Bobby suggested they call themselves "The Righteous Brothers." The beginning of the greatest duo in the history of music. I wish Bobby were here to see the impact just listening to his voice has on everyone who has the good fortune to hear him. But being Bobby, he would be very humble, but happy. And Bill...great in his own right, still performing at age 82.

Elizabeth Rich. The Righteous Brothers had great respect and admiration for Soul, RnB, loved performing them. When I first heard them in the early 60's, I thought they were black. They were so talented and did great justice to black music. They didn't do it to "copy" black music, but because they loved it. And they did they did a great job!
