No lie, a good 90% of your library should've been in a JRPG by now. I feel I go on a little adventure in my head listening to these. Thank You for reminding me how fun the music making process can be. Cheers~
Thank you so much for the kind comment! My #1 music dream is to write a soundtrack for a JRPG, so it really means a lot to hear that. I hope you go on to have loads of fun with your future music endeavors!
@Shadycicada A bit out of nowhere, but have you considered working with other artists? Micheal Ghelfi and his Studio recently partnered with Paizo, a tabletop rpg publisher. Maybe TTRPGs are a niche close enough to JRPGs? Most of the letters are the same after all :^)
@@chron874 Late reply, but I'd love to work with other artists on games and other projects (I've already done so in the past actually)! I appreciate the heads up :)
2:30 sounds like the theme to a "important to the plot" dialogue scene set in a ancient temple or ancient sanctuary 6:07 definetly is the theme to a random town in a RPG and 9:07 definetly kind of reminds me of the legend of zelda but also definetly sounds like the theme to a random spanish knight on horseback
Johnny Paste Eater goes hard, but you can't beat the sheer goofiness of Sunshine Fun in the Sun 7: The Nostalgia of Plorbo. I want to play whatever game would have that in it's soundtrack.
Thank you for using the full name 😂 With the exception of the theremin lead, it's kinda growing on me too! I might consider repurposing it for something else one day
unironically Sunshine Fun in the Sun 7: The Nostalgia of Plorbo was my fav i gotta hear what else you can do with the theramin and hang cause it scratches my brain SO good. Also the lil drop at 6:30 *chefs kiss*
Funny thing actually, this composition concept is how I came to write my first Vocaloid song! (Which I'll probably remix because at the moment, the vocal tuning SUCKS.)
Johnny Paste Eater is like a strange amalgamation of western outlaw music, Renaissance medieval music, and jungle/safari music that somehow actually just works.
The return of instrument randomizer! I love how you can so constantly turn a hot mess of an instrument combination into a banger song, every single time. I'd say that these are some of my favourite challenges you do, but I'd be lying because I love all of them, hah
For gods sake, how does this all end up so good? You're not playing fair, Shady! The first one had some real nice 'exploring a dark forest'-JRPG vibes, and with percussion perhaps that would be just a full-fledged great BGM. The second one... had the theromin, and you can't write theromin without terror.... yes, you can, but you get the point. But without that, I gave some nice beach vibes, like Super Mario Sunshine. I expected a lot less with that asortment of instruments. And the last one felt like Dragonroost Island from Zelda. I think the bell messed stuff up a bit and might either need more space for some more godly feel, or just yeet that stupid bell completely and focus a bit more on the Ocarina for a more Zelda-ry feel, including copyright strikes by Nintendo. But I really had fun listening, just amazing songs, and really enjoyable hearing from you. Gosh, I wish I could join you on the twitches more often!
The first one is one I’d put on a playlist, so please finalize it because it sounds super cool. Also Johnny the paste eater sounds like a menace. Keep up the great work
Thanks so much! The answer is lots of practice and lots of experimenting! Get a feel for a bunch of instruments and genres and they all start feeling like building blocks (:
First - music that plays when you dont go through the portal to the final area after the climatic cutscene Second - nostalgic flashbacks to all the adventures you had with your friends along the journey before a great sacrifice Third - stranger in a strange land, saved by the mentor figure moments before death, displaying their expertise
@Shadycicada Bells can refer to multiple types of bells. There's normal bells, cowbells, agogos, even garrapatta bells which I don't really know about.
Johnny Paste Eater gave Hidden Village from Twilight Princess vibes. Takes me back to the old metal fairy fountain video on the Schecter Damien, Ive been looking at the new multiscale version of that guitar.
I've been wanting another of these videos, and man this one was fun to watch. All three were absolute bangers, even the second one somehow lmao. Big fan of Jerry/Johnny Paste Eater. 0:14 👀
Might be too late but I absolutely loved the third one. There's just this perfect mix of tension and calm between the instruments that just love to hear
hmmm: "squeelborb, welcome. To the ancient temple of glorb. here is where our ancestors started their quest... and here is where you shall continue to carry the torch" the nostalgia of plorbo: "cmon squeelborb! you'll never make it to the temple on time to hear the elders stories if you stay slow like that haha hurryyy!!!!" (flashbacks) johnny paste eater: "you really think you can beat me squeelborb? i took over this town LEGALLY! there aint nuthin you can do against me partner nothing at all!!!.... wait...... is that? NO PROOF OF FORGED DOCUMENTS AAAAAAAAGHHHHH!!!!"
Late to the party here but I got to say that number 2 was the favourite for me. Number 1 was probably the most polished and 3 was super catchy but I can ACTUALLY see the second song in like a beach level or tropical level of a game...like you could practically submit that already; it has a quirky Kirby-esque charm to it. Also that Hang drum is WAAAAAY better than bongos for percussion. Thanks for this little slice of awesome. :)
Hmmmm's "lute" / bass / synth combo felt really good! I'd love to see you play around with the vibe in more songs. It gave me a really good dungeon-exploration type of feeling. Also, I actually really like the low theremin. it's like a spoopy bass.
Theremin is the son of Wood Wood. He's the sequel. It's like Wood Wood gets his own anime reboot and then the sequel Theremin finally gets adapted for the first time.
I actually really loved all 3 of these songs. The first one felt like something youd hear in the a typical rpg while the main cast explores the secret pathways under the castle after learning some major plot twist. Second one sounded like something straight out of terraria. Third one sounded like your typical gerudo valley-esque area but if nier music (the bell specifically) met ocarina of time. If i had to pick one id like to see finished, it would probably be the first one, but the third one is a close second place
This is definitely one of the things I’d do if I had the know how and equipment to make music. I have a challenge idea: Making a song based on its’ lyrics. You take a song you don’t know, extract the lyrics, and try to form the instrumental from that. It can work vice versa too! Love the music things, keep up the tunes!
I saw a game that literally combined taiko drums in a peaceful song, that also has a sick acoustic drum solo in it, and alphorns, and somehow it works perfectly.
The last one HIT so good. But honestly? The 1st one might have the most potential to be finalized. It’s got the workings of something special, kind of along the lines of of the song ‘Doctor’ from way back when. I’d love to see the finalized version of that one since the slap bass is very heavy/loud in this version
I really like the first song (hmm)! I have tip for the theremin though - only play it legato, never do complete note stops. It's actually kinda tricky to suddenly stop the theremin from playing (because its volume is also controlled with an antenna), so playing it legato has become a signature part of its sound. If the theremin was actually played properly, it could have actually sounded great!
Consider an alteration of this challenge: Randomize the instruments, compose the song, then, randomize again and replace the instruments you just composed with and see what it sounds like.
song 1 made me feel like an explorer uncovering the truth of an ancient ruin song 2 made me clap and got judging looks from my brother at first song 3 made me feel like i was an elf dancing in the forest but then i saw it was high noon
I see noone else mentioning this so i will, but the first song sounds strangely similar to the DK country OST song stickerbush symphony, famous for a video that uses the track and inspired a decade of commenters to connect and share how their life was going at the time and check in again later. You brought me right back into that state with the song, even though some of the instruments and melody were different.
Johnny paste eater wasn't good, it was amazing. Absolutely in love with it. The spanish feeling was so good. I truly hope one day you do a full version of it.
Hey, Shady. Really enjoyed seeing you improvise and making magic happen with these random instrument invasions. I think making a poll would help a lot in deciding which track is mostly selected by the viewers. In my case, I think track #1 (hmmm...) was my favorite.
heyo shady! just wanted to pop in and say that you were the person to inspire me to start making music in 6th grade--i'm in 9th now and it's been a massive hobby for like, over 3 years. thanks for everything
Johnny Paste Eater sounded a lot like something that could've been ripped straight out of Ys VIII. Which is a good thing because that OST is full of bangers
This town ain't stick enough for the glue of us. (If you have some fun challenge ideas, hit me with 'em!)
I have an idea! Get three random video game songs from chat and turn their motifs into an original song.
Maybe try making a song with MSM Composer?
Make a song but you can't use any real instruments, only real noises
Make a song using only precussion
love the tunes paste guy cicada
sorry I just couldn't help it after the end 😆
You should definitely finalize “Johnny Paste Eater” it was definitely my favourite!
Glad you liked it! I actually had some fun ideas for it shortly after finishing, so I'd love to make it into a whole thing!
Agreed
I second this
I wholeheartedly agree, wwe need the full version!
I third this
The real Squeelborb was the friends we made along the way
Friendship TRULY is the defining final power
Johnny Paste Eater, to my ears, sounds like it could theoretically exist within a modern Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game and I love it
I love the music from the PMD series! So that means a lot to hear (: Thank you!
No lie, a good 90% of your library should've been in a JRPG by now. I feel I go on a little adventure in my head listening to these. Thank You for reminding me how fun the music making process can be. Cheers~

Not a good idea to watch this while eating, almost choked on my food laughing. Too funny, 10/10.
I'm glad to hear you had a good time with it! (Stay safe too lmao!)
not gonna lie, sunshine fun in the sun 7 the nostalgia of plorbo is actually really good
Thank you for using the full name 😂 With the exception of the theremin lead, it's kinda growing on me too! I might consider repurposing it for something else one day
The theremin lead is kinda unironically my favorite part though.
It's like a scuffed version of a Mario Kart beach level.
@@LuckySketchesSAME it’s so funky and I love funky stuff in music 💕
It’s just every goat simulator ost ever.
Now we need a professional bongo shady song. You gotta make it happen. You can do it.
Nevermind. The intro foreshadied the end.
Next up will be a song with only bongos! (I kid though. That'd be awful LOL)
A song made from pure percussion instruments or with a strong focus on them would fun to see👀
@@Shadycicada Kinda wanna see a full percussion song now. xD Don't though. That sounds like it'd be torture to attempt.

1:43, i have spent hours recreating this song in a lot of music making softwares, i knew it from the looks lol
It's the musician equivalent of noticing the Rick Roll URL at this point LOL
Instrument randomizer is BACK !!!!!
6:31 why does that kinda go hard lmao
We need to see Johnny the Paste Eater's full theme ASAP. But I still think the first two are some very interesting pieces to expand upon
Would love to see Johnny Paste Eater have his glue-munching escapades extended to full length
It seems the Patron of Paste is the popular one here (and I'm glad, cause that one was my fave too), so I'll definitely do more with that one!
I think you should finalize Sunshine Fun In The Sun 7 - The Nostalgia of Plorbo.
The first and third one were genuinely amazing! I'd love a Full version of both that I could play on my Spotify whenever!
AAAAAAAAA THE RANDOM INSTRUMENT NAME GENERATOR CHALLENGE RETURNS!!!!!
True. I could see this either working in Zelda or Monkey Island. The vibes are immaculate.
At long last. You first instrument randomizer video was the first video of yours I watched. This will be a nice trip down memory lane
I hope you enjoy it! This was just as fun to make as the old ones 😄
@@Shadycicada it shows brotha this is amazing

100% Johnny Paste eater to finalize. That was so much better than I'd expected

Song 2 in a mix between koopa cape and dk mountain from mariokart
