    Often having a reputation for being a transportation appliance, Toyota has completely shattered that notion with this all-new 2018 Camry. With the Hybrid model riding on the same architecture as the gas siblings, this new SE hybrid promises all the technology, style, comfort, and fun of the non-hybrid with a 20-30% improvement in efficiency.

      Yeah... I'm a watch nerd, and if I may add to this... Vincero watches are certainly fine with regards to quality, but they're worth precisely what you pay... Not much from a value retention or collectibility standpoint (which I understand may not be a concern to everybody).
      But even more importantly... the watch *case* is 43mm, and it's called a "sapphire crystal" and a "dial," not a "face." Clocks have faces, watches have dials.
      Just saying... if you wanna sell watches, get your lingo straight! :)

    Toyota said they put in the Ni-Mh batteries on the upper trims, because they have a lot more features and tech, and they are actually heavier.... And being heavier wouldn't make much of a difference (performance-wise) if they put in a Li-Ion battery instead, so they opted for the Ni-Mh hitting two birds with one stone - one is giving you more bang for your buck in the upper trims and keeping the same performance without sacrificing the cost. Actually, there's another interesting reason too, the Camry Hybrid is the ONLY engine you can get in Europe, there's no V6 and no regular 2.5, no 8-speed automatic, no nothing, just the Hybrid. Speaking of that, the Ni-Mh battery technology holds a lot better in colder temperatures and Europe generally has a somewhat colder climate than the US.
    You can imagine that US-wise and Worldwide the Hybrid will account for a certain percentage of the Camry sales, but for Europe it will literally mean that 100% of Camry's sold will be a Hybrid. Putting in the more expensive Li-Ion technology would either have to hurt the price for the end buyer or hurt Toyota's margins while trying to stay competitive. And knowing how the Toyota Production System (TPS) and Lean/Six Sigma works, it makes no sense to introduce more variability in the production plants, so a much smarter decision would be to just go for "one size fits all" strategy. Also, a fun fact, there's NO option for a Li-Ion battery in Europe.

      @WAN2TREE4 Před 5 lety

      The new Corolla hybrid is the Prius killer. But the hybrids are still being made in Ontario or Kentucky I think because it will be more expensive if assembled in Japan. And profit wise, Toyota is probably just breaking even with them at least for now. The Entune system they have in the Camry is not bad if you ask me but maybe that Apple Carplay is so cool that for some people not having that is a deal breaker.

    The Toyota Camry is one of the best cars ever made in the United States. These cars are very reliable, safe, smooth, comfortable, and somewhat have decent engines that make good power off the line. I have a 2010 Camry LE in the super white color and it has the 2.5L 6A 169hp. it takes me to go 85 mph to get up to 2,500 rpm. Going about 70 is at 2,000 rpm. 65 is 1,750. It has 174,000 miles and mine has been in my family for 7 years and it was bought in October of 2011 when it had 35,000 miles. The engine is in great shape and it’s been taken care of and plan on keeping this car for along time.

    I bought a new 2019 Toyota Camry SE yesterday. I love the classic shifter as opposed to other manufacturers who get fancy with the automatic shifter and you have to learn where the P/R/N/D is located; Buttons in Honda are even worse because you can't shift by feel. I don't like Honda's turbo lag, high maintenance CVT, noisy interior, and stuckon iPad as the center console.

    It's absurd that Toyota is still using NiMH batteries in any car. That alone would rule out those trims for me. When they say "we did it to cut cost," that's code for "we did it to increase profit." There's nothing wrong with profits, but not by cheaping out on the most important component in a hybrid vehicle. Well according to report the most reliable CVT out there is made by Nissan. All CVT’s suck still and If I’d get an automatic I would just get a Mazda the traditional auto transmission. My 2017 Forte, mind you it’s stock, smoked a Camry hybrid I’d say it was the last model before this new one. The Camry has more power and a better power to weight ratio. So it came down to the transmission, my Forte has a Six-Speed auto, not an anemic CVT. Sadly the 2019 Forte will be having a CVT. It’s not like a CVT makes a car more efficient either. My Forte only gets only Mille per gallon less than the comparable Corolla, and if my Forte Smoked the Camry, I would barely need to press the throttle against a Corolla. In fact I have raced a Corolla. It was a 2013 model, I raced it against my base model stock 2003 Sentra it the race wasn’t even close.

    I think you're dead on that it's about production with the battery chemistry. Toyota only makes lithium batteries in Japan, their China factory is NiMh only (for intellectual property reasons maybe?) They buy some batteries from GS Yuasa and Panasonic, but I think it comes down to keeping costs low for really a very minimal reduction in efficiency by using their in-house NiMh batteries.

    They could have made an even larger trunk by using the flat folding type of hinge vs. the old (and frankly ridiculous) goose neck style. The Dodge Avenger used the better hinges and here we have a re-design and still get the same old thing that has been a design for the past 50+ years. The old save a dime excuse to use the goose neck hinges is getting long in the tooth with each price increase.
