- This video is just a quick tutorial and shows what I do to start up my Hip for Enigma's Cold War Server. This is not the proper cold and dark start up for the Hip but it is the fastest way to get the pertinent systems online for flight and combat on ECW. Most of what I'm doing is an abbreviated format of vsTerminus' start up seen here: • DCS Mi-8: Cold Start T... If you want more explanation on the proper Hip start up and different ways to start the Hip, check out that video. His channel is my go to channel for Hip information. If you use autostart on the Hip, it will take 3 minutes and 20 seconds to get through, if you do this method you can shave off a minute or so and be ready to lift off in 2 minutes 20-30 seconds. There is room there to shave off some more time, it mostly depends on how close you can get the second engine started up after the first engine start clears. Anyways, if you do things differently let me know in the comments below! Thank you all for watching and catch you on the next one. I'm excited to make our first V2 documentary video now that the new version is live.

I'm amazed at the accuracy of the cockpit. These are really cool aircraft to be inside IRL. My dad is a pilot.
Wow your dad is a Hip pilot ? Has he tried this simulator? That is really cool to hear, thanks for sharing that. I love this type of helicopter.
@@ryu1940 He is not a gamer at all. But he has flown AN-2, Mi-8, MI-17, MI-24, MI-35, UH-60, and Hueys. I got pictures of some of the aircraft from inside. He is retired from the army. He was in the 160th SOAR. I want to show him the game next time I go to visit him.
@@Y34RZERO wow that is awesome ! I wonder what he thinks about the other aircraft in DCS like our Mi-24 Hind and UH-1 Huey.
@@ryu1940 I'd have to buy the games lol. I was just randomly recommended an Mi-8 video and wanted to see. It's the old cockpit. Some have been updated to a glass cockpit.
@@Y34RZERO haha ah I see. The base game is a free download. You of course buy the modules. In March there should be a sale and the helicopters are usually $25 or so. Great deal for the level of detail. This is the Mi-8 MTV2 version which is an early 90s production model.
Hey Ruy, sorry for the spam of comments. I just did a portuguese version of this video for the small brazilian community. I put the credits for your video in the description. Once again, thank you very much for the dedication with this module, you are an inspiration.
Great work I just watched it! Thanks for the shout out! Good job spreading the Hip love!
thank you! i cant memorize all those longer cold start videos so this short video is awesome!
No problem I’m glad I could help! See ya out there !
Nice videos, only thing I do differently is enable the dust filters, illuminate the gauges and set heading hold for take off :)
I learned/relearned a couple things like the anti-ice circuit breakers. On ECW while the APU and each engine is spooling up, I'm in the radio menu requesting rearming, troops, configuring EWR etc
Oh man not in this video my procedure is always load troops first and then rearm with guns then start up mainly cus I have such a problem remembering lol there have been many times I left the farp missing troops or guns.
@@ryu1940 I get bored in the spoolup times if I configure that stuff first ;)
That intro song is fire :D
Yeah it’s pretty catchy lol I can’t remember the name of it off the top of my head.
Thanks, great - this is exactly how I do it :) I also switch the fuel - I just give flares on both sides :)
Nice! Good tip with adjusting the flares to both sides.
@medieval 1-1 lol! My hip can be a flaring machine in that regard from time to time.
@@ryu1940 what is your call sign? In DCS
Same as this ryu1940
@@ryu1940 ok thks my is WhiteRaven 17 / Bedo
This one is going in the bookmarks tab for sure
Great to hear that !
Nearly exactly like my Colde Start. I just switch Generatrors anr Rectifyers on together with the Inverters. If you fly with Pylons and need to Change the Weapons you can also use the Aurostart, If this ist Runing Change the Weapons and go in the Checklist from button to Top. Keeo in mind that you need to switch in the Autopilot as soon as it has power
Great tips for the weapons and flipping on the gen’s and rectifiers with the inverters! Thank you !
I think we are pretty close on this one. I have been developing the quicker startup, still have to be a little watchful to avoid got ya's. So you don't take any weapons, I almost got an air to air with rockets and I wish I would have had gun pods against a Huey. But, the cleaner is lighter and faster to me, which I do as well. Still trying to figure out if gun pods may be worth it. Rockets not so much because you will get shot to pieces before you can use them.
Oh wow that would have been cool getting an air to air with the rockets. Yeah I really like the speed over anything else.
Nice, the only thing I ever do differently is wait until generators are up & running before turning on the voice warning system. Keeps her from yelling at me as much 😅
Nice! Yeah she will only say like main hydraulic failure twice then she shuts up lol not too bad. If I don’t do things in a flow I will definitely forget haha
@@Medieval1-1 It’s the pitch roll autopilot channel. I briefly mention this in the start up at the end when I turn that on after the generators come online. What’s happening is that autopilot channel depends on the generators. If they go it will turn off. You need to manually turn the pitch roll channel back on because it will not come back on by itself. For this reason I map it to something on my joystick. That should help.
@@Medieval1-1 lol yeah I’m pretty sure that’s what’s been happening. It’s certainly very noticeable after it happens lol
So when starting up the right engine and having the red lever set up, the RPM was not fully reaching 80, generators are failing, and a bit more. When I did autostart it said something was wrong with the batteries. Next to the batteries there's a knob for them. Do I need to switch it to something?
You should just need to turn on the battery switches and that’s all. Not sure what would be stopping the second engine from coming on if you’re following the video 🤔
why not they just put in hot start position than waisting our precious time
Do you want them to fly the heli for you as well?
