  • One of my all time favorite interviews. Such a lovely lady who we lost far too soon. Mary tells us how she met the love of her life, Robert, 15 years her junior. When she met him, she thought, "he is a dream from my childhood". She reflects on their love, the new farm, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Ordinary People, her alcoholism, the Betty Ford Clinic, her diabetes, and her search for honesty in all she does. I loved my time with her. I hope you do too!

I am a journalist and rarely, and I mean rarely, compliment the interviewer. But this is a case where the interviewer not only let the interviewee shine, she shines herself, equally, without taking anything away from the interview (but in fact, only adding to it, steadily, professionally, empathetically). Wonderful, wonderful job Eileen.

This interview popped up on my YT feed this morning because we were watching some of MTM videos last night. Very much agree with what you said about the interviewee and the interviewer. It was more of a corroboration of 2 intelligent women. Eileen Prose did one of the best interviews with MTM I've seen to date.

This has got to be the most awesome interview ever made with the mighty Mary Tyler Moore. Listen to what the late, great superstar of television and movies has to say as she reflects on her life and career. It is one of the most moving celebrity interviews I have ever seen or heard anywhere. Miss Moore has a long and impressive list of accomplishments behind her. She was one of the most powerful, most inspiring and influential female celebrities of the late twentieth century. Rest in peace, Mary Tyler Moore. We will all miss you, but we will never, ever forget you.

Mary sure learned from life's challenges. She was articulate and wise, and exuded so much warmth in this interview. I had the pleasure of seeing her in Sweet Sue, and in running into her in an elevator, where I thanked her for the years of pleasure she brought. A highlight of my life!

So articulate , so intelligent still seemed like a shock that she passed even though severely diabetic and living to 80 . Laura Petrie and Mary Richards will forever be us , especially in my generation being 57 watching reruns of Dick Van Dyke show then at 8 - 15 watching the MTM show . Then all grown up at 18 watching her in ordinary People in 1980 I then knew what I had suspected all Along - she was a great actress . That range from light comedy to playing a woman so intent against opening up that she alienated her own son and eventually her husband . Huttons character Conrad was the bird in the coal mines - sensitive to the lack of air to breathe safely knowing he is lived during a tragic event . Her silence and withdrawn behavior made it seem like she felt it was his fault or at the most damaging that she wished the older brother had lived instead of him . For Mary to play that role convincingly made me see her abilities in a new light . This conversation shows all of her wit , alarmingly quick vast verbal descriptions characterizing a particular feeling leaving no room for misinterpretation shows me that She was better than her material while acting . Acting was a way fir her to receive attention but she won over our hearts . She was brave to fight till the end but lucky to have found true love in her mate
