I think this is my 5th time watching this great video. Thank you so much for all you give.
You are so welcome!
This is my second time watching you paint the black-capped chickadee that looks fantastic! We have I believe sparrows in the backyard frolicking in the shrubs and looks like they are having fun in their natural habitat. I should be painting more but don't want to go into a whirlwind. I have been taking on projects at home that need attention.😁 I am discovering Angi's list to be very customer oriented and best of all there are not three project going on at one time. Thank you for another one of your many outstanding paintings! You make learning fun and are a great encouragement to beginners and more advanced artists alike!😁
Lots of useful technical information. Love the chickadee! Thanks Dave for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
I am 66 yrs old, a doctor by profession and had never touched a brush or Color but had so much desire to paint! So after my retirement, first thing I searched on CZcams was painting tutorials and luckily found yours! I love birds watching, hence tried birds sketches via Color pencils followed by your bird’s paintings 😊 thank you so much. I really appreciate your mentoring 👍
Thanks for sharing!! Thank you so much 😀
Love these videos and your techniques. You do amazing work. I’m so excited to try these. Thank you.

Álmok
Szellők szárnyán leszáll az éj.
Nappalnak csendben helyébe lép.
Az égen milliárdnyi csillagok.
Fényük egyre csak ragyog.
Üzennek az embereknek.
Bánatot, bút feledjenek.
Küldenek egy csodás álmot.
Háborúk nélküli VILÁGOT!

Hello David , I appreciate your humble explanation of how you like to create..your work is amazing ...
I appreciate that Linda! Thank you. 😃
My little chickadee! Loved this. So, I've been doing it right. I paint everything. From landscapes to flowers to animals and birds--gotta do more birds, and this was perfect. Still it will take time to be able to get lose like you do, Dave. (the spirt of paint is casual too!)💦☺
Thanks so much Lorelei. Casual is a great way 😊
Loved it!
Thank you😀
This painting is beautiful Dave. The bird is just fantastic. My goal is to paint half as well as you.
You can do it! Let me know if you have trouble with something. I will make a video. Love helping out! Bird time!!!!
i did it, finally i draw a bird for the first time in my life, thank u for sharing your knowledge
Great job! It is fun to do! Thank you 😀
Hi David, I just 'found' you and am breathlessly excited I did!!!! I loved this loose paint of the little black capped chickadee!!! It's gorgeous!!!! I will be trying to catch up now on watching all your previous videos here on CZcams with great anticipation!!!! I LOVE birds and I LOVE flowers and I used to oil paint!! Never tried acrylics but I had to quit oils after becoming extremely allergic to the various mediums used with oils. Anyway, might even check into your classes...will have to see!!! Again, so glad you popped up on the side of my CZcams screen and immediately caught my eye!!! Now I'm hooded after just one show!!!!
Thanks Nancy! We have an entire series coming. I also have series on landscapes, roses, wildflowers. I will be starting an alla prima series in mid September that will be using an "open" techniques that as an ex oil artist you will probably really enjoy!
David Jansen sounds great!!!👍🏼
Superb work as usual. Very interesting and informative..i just love watching you paint. Now....landscapes...😬
Thank you so much 😀
I hope you paint a cardinal! They’re so beautiful! I love your videos so much! I’m obsessed!
Edit: I especially love your painting technique. I’m by no means an expert but enjoy painting for fun. The way you teach doesn’t feel intimidating, but rather very laid back and relaxed.
Thank you so much Wanda! Yes I plan on painting a Cardinal. 😃
David Jansen so exciting! Looking forward to it! 🙂
Very nice tutorial..thanks
You are most welcome Neha. Thank you.
Hi Dave love your birds over there I am from Oz I think you know anyway you are so right about repeating the same habit even though I have only done a few dozen of your flowers and can't yet get it I find I won't either as I keep doing the very same thing over and over so much that this one particular canvas has that much texture I can't get nice results anymore so back into the corner it goes again and I think I will sand it off, saying that I had a break as I was doing my head in and painted a nice peacock which came easily with flowers and then back to yours and nope still can't. I am now going to paint something else just for my mental state haha, I have painted all types of things and love buildings very much. I look forward to the blue bunting as the lilacs are my fav colour and I might vibe with it better. Shanks again lovin your company, ha when Pete goes to bed I always say I am staying up with Dave hahaha
Hi Silvia.... If I can make a suggestion. You learn faster if you don't sand it off and start a new one. Always keep your work. It will help you make a comparison later on. I used my practice boards all the time in class to show students where and how I came off. I never sand even though sometimes you really feel the need to!!! 😊
@@JansenArtEducation Ok I will Shanks xxx
Hello David, I just received another wonderful video. Thank you 😊
You are very welcome! Thank you so much for watching 😊
Thank you for your generosity in letting us watch your videoa. Please, where may I find the value chart you mentioned?
Hi Teri, Here is the link to our webpage. you can find all the videos and supplies there. Just download. It is free. jansenartstudio.com/index.php/supplies
Wonderful painting, a joy to watch. Please, where could I get the value scale you are using ?I have found many but with just 5 values.Thank you very much .Looking forward for the next bird!
Hi, In the video description there is a link for our main website JansenArtStudio. Go there, click the free videos and you will see a free download to print off the value scales I use. Thanks. 😊
👏👏👏
🌸❤️❤😍😍❤️❤❤
So pretty! Will you be doing more birds?
Yes I will I have lots of ideas and comments from viewers so I guess I better keep going. In the next video I show a few more that are coming. 😊
do you also work with watercolors? your painting is wonderful 👍🏼
Yes, but I use the Heritage Acrylics. There is a medium you add that allows them to do the watercolor techniques.
Dear David, as I want to start learning how to paint roses following your instructions, I went to the Jansen Art Store to purchase the necessary brushes. the ones that you show in the videos. The list of the Long Handle Fusion Brushes for sale there, shows 18 different ones, including filberts, flats, rounds, liners, and three sets: 'beginners (3) Fusion Filbert (5) and Flat set (5) I would really appreciated if you could kindly let me know which ones and how many should I purchase from the list. Thanks so very much.
Hi Linda, My favorites size is a #10 or 8 fusion flat and the 3/4 inch. There is a new 1/2 inch coming that I will be using in a new Alla Prima painting series for youtube in September. My daughter Jessica and son in law Dave manage that online store and can give you some great ideas if you email them at JansenArtStudio@aol.com. They are always watching what I use and putting together sets at lower prices.
@@JansenArtEducation Thanks for the information Mr Jansen. I'll go get them straight away see if I can start painting beautiful roses
I love these videos but can only paint at night. HELP, can you all recommend good lighting? I have to order on Amazon as I live in a remote area of Panama SA. A Canadian down south...thanks! 🙏🧑🏻🎨
I paint under LED. They are the best. I get so much pure light. I don't like the warm spectrum below 3000k because you get too sleepy. I don't like the "natural" specturm 4000k and above. It makes your eyes tired after awhile. I like the 3500k LEDs. They are perfect for me. The more "lumens" the more light it puts on your painting. 3500k lets you "see' the colors better. I like these...
www.amazon.com/Sylvania-Home-Lighting-78102-Equivalent/dp/B06XXRWWDC/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=3500k+led&qid=1596376143&sr=8-8
You can also get them dimmable. Amazing painting light.
David Jansen thanks so much for the information
Hi, David. I love this beautiful painting. Thank you. I think, after watching quite a few of your demonstrations, I will paint this one. Did you use the colors you often do, titanium white, black, and yellow oxide for the base color (before you began actual painting)?
Yes. Mix to a value 7. Take just a little yellow and very little black.
@@JansenArtEducation Thank you for your reply. I'd also add some white to get that light? Happy holidays
@@JansenArtEducation Thank you so much. I just received a box of supplies from your store and a pack of 9x12" MDF panels from another source. I looked through your videos and only found one for texturing a canvas board. For MDF panels, do I need a sealer and then gesso? Do I gesso front and back? Or just gesso the front and paint the 1/4" sides and back? For this painting, would you use the brush texturing or just leave smooth? (This is the type I got: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R32SPKV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
Hi Teri, Gesso is very old school. You don't need that if your using Heritage. Just give a basecoat with Heritage, dry, sand lightly with 180 sandpaper and your ready to go. I stopped using gesso years and years ago when higher quality acrylics came out.
David, you say it often "brush calligraphy" please explain.
When painting casually each artist will have there own look to the brush movement, just like you do with handwriting. Alla Prima artists call it "brush calligraphy". I started using the term many years ago after reading Al Gury's book called Alla Prima. Describes it really well.
@@JansenArtEducation thank you
Do u ever paint green cheek concurs?
First I ever heard of them. Pretty bird.
from Rhode Island the Ocean State🦞🦐🦮🦞🎨🎨🎨
Thank you. Love that little state. Used to go there every year!
Could you please share, with a newer student, (older artist)
what you are painting on? Is it paper?
I use 1/8 inch thick MDF or hardoard. You can find it at Dick Blick online store, just search "hardboard". Thank you! 😃
can I follow these steps but in oils?
Not with this technique, but the alla prima playlist that I have on the channel you can.
Hi David, I just want to send you a link to a European blue-capped chickadee. Another beautiful bird that might be an addition to your garden birds. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Eurasian_blue_tit_Lancashire.jpg. Thanks again for wonderful teaching and the lot of work you put into it, all without charge.
Thank you very much. I painted one years ago for a class in France. Beautiful bird.
