    The explicit teaching is wonderful thank you. Especially the pointers to tonal values are the best explanations I've heard. Just started painting again in the last 2 years after many years. All your teaching is much appreciated.

    Great examples of techniques for tonal and half-tone painting! I enjoy seeing your process of dark to light, cool to warm, and your explanation of the three parts of the rose shape. These brush-ups are so informative……your methods are easy to understand and follow….the sign of a good teacher. Thank you!

    Thank you David for your videos. It helps me a lot in learning new techniques. I love to paint, but I stopped for while out frustration. Now I feel like painting again and determined to do so. Your videos encourage me to go on and paint again. I like the way you patiently teach your audience, each step.
    Thank you so much again, I‘ll keep on watching your videos.

    You need good brushes and good acrylics to paint nice flowers, I've been trying to buy the brushes you use from Amazon at a $100.00 for 4?. Seems Amazon is over charging,
    What say you?.
    Can you spend more time on base colours for flowers, like what color goes beneath, yellow, red, etc.
    Thanks David.
    Love your tutoring. You are the best.

      I usually pull a color from the composition. Darker if you want contrast and lighter to make it "airy".

    Why the water rather than Medium? (For the Watercolor effect?)
    I was taught to never use water except with the Script Brush.

    • @JansenArtEducation
      @JansenArtEducation  Před 2 lety +2

      Who is the heck said that? They don't know the chemistry of acrylic paints. Water is inside acrylics. Many acrylics it is at least 40% of the volume. Water is the solvent as well. You can use it to thin down the paint and create better flow. Using only water gives you a complete different effect than using a medium. I use both. I paint with hundreds of different techniques because as a chemist and artist, I teach people how to use paint to create different looks. There are hundreds of ways to paint something. Using a medium is only one way. Thanks!!

      My Art Teacher.
      Said it would compromise the product. To always use a medium to thin.
      I know they are water based but she also only used Distilled water for cleaning and making Gesso.
      Was I led astray? 😁 lol

    • @JansenArtEducation
      @JansenArtEducation  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, you led astray. You can use up to 50% water in Heritage Acrylics to thin before you thin it out too much. Water is used all the time in acrylics. It is in every acrylic paint. The majority of mediums are mostly water! You can create problems if you add too much water. You thin out the binder in the paint and it's ability to make cross-linking bonds is reduce. This will reduce the hardness of the final paint film, but you have to add more than 50% water to do that. I do agree if you going to make something by adding water distilled is the best because it is pH neutral. pH is a huge factor in the long term storage of acrylics. The other factor is mold spores. If you use tap water it is best to boil it for 10 minutes to kill any mold spores. This is only if your going to store the paint longer term. You do not need to boil water to paint with. I use normal tap water in my painting everyday and have done that for 40 years. I have been building acrylic and oil paint systems for different paint companies since 1983. Whoever is telling you this is wrong. You can paint with water, just remember your thinning out the glue that sticks the paint together as well. Thinning like I show in my videos is perfectly fine to do with absolutely no problems whatsoever. 🙂
