Don't agree on that one dude, i think they would have been to avant garde for that early on in music history. The worlds ears just wasn't ready back then. Just take the pixies as an example, they were way ahead of thier time and would have been better recieved between 95-05' imho.

Kurt: Singing about how everyone dances along to his songs not knowing the deeper and darker meanings that each describes
The audience: 🕺🕺🕺🕺
This was the grunge version of Hey Ya before OutKast even existed. So I guess you could Nirvana pioneered this formula
@@antoniasalinas513 don't think you get the point if you think one person is copying another.
Yeah true. kurt also intentionally mumbled lyrics so that we couldn't fully understand the meaning. Especially in the earlier days. Kurt may be literally saying we know not what it means when he says "yeah". Think in Lithium, there is no meaning to the chorus of "yeahs" Sometimes there was no meaning behind it.
@@misterroberts344 Kurt was thinking about the meaning of life when he was making music, he did not care for your opinion or anyone else's for that matter, he had something eating at him and he found the answers he was looking for and hurt tremendously for it. Ignorance is bliss.

You have both been summoned!
Love the way it’s like a parody on the smiling, clean cut, radio friendly bands of the 60’s and then descends into fun chaos at the end.
Nirvana always rocked
The songs about the alienation the band feels from the fans. Who sing and love their songs but don't embrace how dark and painful they are. They cheer and sing along like they're pop stars. Blindly obsessed with something they don't understand fully. That's the parody. It goes hand in hand with the British invasion. "Oh my god, theyre so cute, i love their music!!!" And the video is highlighting just that.
@@Eggo5150 Very well put. Yes, “Smells like teen spirit” also has a similar message. Lyrics that were lost on a lot of “fans”
There you go Matson. It's at least worth another 2 days???...
And you can't even hear the fucking song over all the mindless screaming. An obvious reference to the (now historic) disturbing and pathetic displays of fans at Beatles shows. How empty, soulless, meaningless; the lives of those in histrionic, fanatical emotional meltdown during a live music performance. The Beatles clearly demonstrated how lost and broken the modern world already was, all those years ago

As a 90s kid who didn't grow up with Nirvana but discovered them as a teenager (through their songs and through a good MTV documentary from the mid 2000s), I love the contrast of Nirvana making it to trendy charts etc. and representing the very contrary of what the music industry was/is like.

I'm a gen Z and I fkn love nirvana! All the old music in this world that I know I love dearly. I hate music nowadays. You my friend have an amazing taste in music❤
That's what makes them Nirvana. A band and artist of their time. How huge they were & still are. So significant to fans, to pop culture and the face of the music industry at the time. He put real music back on the charts that literally ushered in the 90s. Beatles of their generation. But that voice of his, fantastic. That's what sets them apart.
@@_Listen_to_Solar_Kama_SutraSo do I
they were FAR from the first edgy, weird, hard thing to come out on the airwaves at the time. They were just the next big wave at the time. This song's chorus is about fans misunderstanding songs and this music video shows nirvana being fake ass tv friendly musicians with flashes of what they actually are like. I like where they went with this.
it's deeper than that. If it was about his fans explain the "gun" line. It sounds as if he is sending a message to someone. "Know not what it means" The build up for the song is talking about something but you never can figure it out. It's a cliff hanger song. If you read the lyrics through n through then you'll understand what I mean. Obviously the "bridge" is something completely unrelated to the actual chorus... Or is it?
I bet it's not about any of the bullshit anybody said in this thread.

I lived in Bremerton Washington in the early 90s. I remember the rise of Grunge from Big Hair. It was an interesting time for music. But if you lived anywhere near the Puget Sound, it was either Sir Mix Alot, or Nirvana. I was in middle school, Central Kitsap MS. You weren't anyone unless you had a pair of Dr. Martins, really wide pant legs or Cross Colors. A Walkman cassette player, a Motorola pager, and a Skate Board. My friends and I would ride our boards to the Ferry, then ride the Ferry across the Sound to Seattle. There we would hook up with random people and do nothing at the waterfront.
When Nirvana hit the scene, the buzz seemed immediate. I remember attending some event where they performed and it was magic. It was all we could talk about as kids. The new Rock.
Bone thugs had just come out too, and that changed so much. It seemed to all end around the same time with Easy and Kurt 😢. But when I listen to my Favorite, In Bloom, it brings it all back.

Kinda funny how Kurt gets reduced to the guy that stood up for women. But, also stood against racism. It’s just that it’s obviously awkward to put too many eggs in the basket of the bigotry angle because people still want to be entertained instead of thinking how stupid they are.
Nirvana was not, on any kind of technical level, a good band. Cobain couldn't sing, his lyrics were naive and his guitar playing was rudimentary. Novoselic's bass-lines are basic. Grohl was what turned them into the rock behemoth they became for three brief years - and even then, by his own admission, he's no Neil Peart. Musically, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam were on a different level altogether - but just as the Beatles, a band of four likeable incompetents, had stormed the world thirty years before, despite much better bands existing, Nirvana were somehow able to reach into people's hearts and minds - mine included. I would be lying if I said I hadn't sung along to Cobain's lyrics, hummed Novoselic's basslines or air-drummed to Grohl's fills.

Kurt: I don't think MTV will let us play that! *Smirks*
+Wardragon 1801 I got a freebird for you right here
+joman66 xD yup

spring is indeed here again, RIP kurt
Hallo Mother and Father of all creation are here on earth in person showing the way , healing, phone home today🎉
That drum intro tells you to pay attention, and with good reason too.
In bloom, smells like teen spirit, polly, come as you are and lithium bring back the biggest sense of nostalgia for me I love it
Also about a girl
And RAPE ME
Heart shaped box too... :D
SLTS is arguably their best song to date. Definitely the only one the majority knows by name. Others were great too but none killed the charts like that one.
Its success doesn't mean if it's good or not; imo their best song is aneurysm, and it wasn't at all as succesful as SLTS.
“I guess you guys aren’t ready for that”
“But your kids are gonna love it”
And yes they did
🙌🏻
haha
And we do.....😈
I loved your comment hahaha
Spring is here again!!
For me it's his best song😊
RIP
One of my dads favorite bands.... he died of a drug overdose a couple years back. He used to play guitar and wasnt the best dad but, damn, i loved him. I feel like this song is kind of a part of me after hearing it so much in my childhood. Nirvana kind of represents my dad. Everytime i listen to their songs i think of my dad and i get a sad nostalgia of when i was young and we were happy together.
That's a bummer
rip your dad, im very sorry for your loss.
Oh no no
Sry for your loss I hope u have a good year
I know how you feel. Our parents are imperfect but tgey remain our parents and when one or both are gone we long for their return if only to revel in a fleeting moment.
Sell the kids for food
Weather changes moods
Spring is here again

Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
And I say he's the one

And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
And I say yeah
We can have some more

Bruises on the fruit

The 90’s gave us so much, but this right here was special
"they're gonna be really big stars"....what an understatement
So dope that *a band from the 1950’s can sound this modern* 💀
erm
no its not from fifties
@@phosphophyllite4588 he’s joking
Yeah but it must have sucked living in black and white, imagine not being able to see any colors!
@@sabbracadabra8367 haha must have been so terrible back then, but at least no racism because everything was colorless 😅🤷🏻♂️
I love how this video relates to the story behind In Bloom. In Bloom is about how people listen to and like Nirvana's songs without knowing the proper meaning behind them. All the people cheering throughout the whole video are oblivious to the whole meaning of the actual song and are cheering just because of the sound of the music and how popular the band is, not because they know what it means.
or its because kurt purposely didnt put a meaning he just put his heart into it so you take ur own meaning
Do you know the meaning?
Kurt said in an interview once that most of his songs were pure jibberish he jotted down in under 2 minutes.
True.
Kurt wrote this song bc some guys that claimed to be nirvana fans raped a girl while singing polly
Nunca envejece. Solo florece esta musica cada dia.

I remember seeing this for the first time as a 15 year old on MTV when it first came out and just dying laughing. Genius
