My Dad took me on this trip about 55 years ago. They had a ragtime band. Saw moose. Ate Indian food. Was impressed by the giant horseflies.

I’m also from Moosonee, we moved down South when I was young. It’s sad to see the tourism today, years ago there was so much to do up there. Glad you enjoyed your trip and thanks so much for the upload!😎

Hi I am from Moose Factory! Yes it's true, back in the 70s, the tourism was amazing! My Granny Agnes Louttit and her cousin Hattie Visitor (two sweet Gookums) were the Bannock ladies in the tiipii just outside around back of the Anglican Parrish Hall in Moose Factory. Those were the glory days of our two amazing communities. I can remember when my Grandpa would call over to Moosonee, to find out how many tourists were coming in on The Polar Bear Express. Many times the numbers were upwards of 800! Then he'd let the Bannock ladies know; they sure enjoyed selling their little delicious loaves to the tourists. I could go on, there's so much more to say!

@@georgepetkovic440I believe there’s a nice place up there now called RnR Lodging. I heard it was the former JBEC apartments converted to a log style hotel.
      Hope that helps 😎

@Christina B Hi I enjoyed you and your partner's video so much; I loved the accompanying song! Please tell me the artist and title. I am from Moose Factory, raised there in the 70s. You guys really must go back and visit MF Island; there are gems there to see, you'll be amazed all over again! It's museum style, the HBC staff house, the gun powder building, the forge building, another building which houses amazing artifacts! Cheers!

I've visited some relatives on my birth father's side who live in Northern Ontario, in 1979 and 1983. Sadly I didn't get to ride this train on either trip.

When we went up a pow wow was happening. Maybe if you time it right… Also, there were fossils everywhere. I picked up a handful of rocks beside the train and they were full of fossils. If you’re offered a tour in a school bus skip that. So boring. The polar bear habitat in Cochrane was magical. We could watch the bears swim under water through the glass. My son put his hand against the glass and the bear match it on the other side with his mighty paw. Wondrous.

Oh, and the train stopped in the middle of nowhere. A country lady was waiting. She had a sturdy bucket with a rope tied to the handle. She stood on the bucket, climbed into the train, then pulled the bucket up behind her with the rope. All these decades later, I’m going to rig up a similar bucket to climb into my truck.

@@shariday9849Hello I am from Moose Factory! I was raised there (I am Cree) in the 70s. During that time, those two communities were truly so special! The summer time tourist days from the Polar Bear Express were amazing. On the Moose Factory side, is local kids would gather fossils and sell them to tourists for dimes and sometimes quarters! Lol Did you buy bannock in a tiipii?
