    The 31 PICT is a replacement Brosol (Made in Brazil for solex) unit, so it's been replaced once already. the adapter is because the 30/31 carbs went on single port intakes and your engine originally had a 34 PICT-3. Keep that 31 on hand, you may want to rebuild it one day.

    Pretty sure the idle is to be set by the air bypass screw and the mixture screw on the side. The cam screw only works with the choke setting. Older carbs idle were set by that screw on the cam thuss a lot of folks get it wrong. I'd just rotary file for clearance to get the choke set dead cold. before running. Remember this order in adjustments on an air cooled. valves, timing, then carb and then back to timing then carb to get ti right. Love the videos. Keep it up

    If you ever have issues getting it to run right, they don't clean the metal shavings from machining these carbs out very well. Hot tank it and it will run better than you could ever get a solex to run. My dad has had one of these on one of his cars for 8 years no problems.

    on the pict. 3, the throttle plate screw screws in until it just touches. its purpose is to not let the throttle plate wear into the casting. it's not any kind of adjustment for idle speed or choke.

    • @FuelInjectionSucks
      @FuelInjectionSucks  Před 5 lety

      That's how I have it set. Without clearancing that screw to the carburetor housing the throttle blade wouldn't close. The screw was about a 1/6 away from that cam.

    Good morning. I was looking on CZcams for a Chinese carb for the 1600 engine I'm building. I came across your video and seen the whole thing. Once you gave it the OK I'd decided to get one off of EBay. It came the on 18th of this month. It looks just like a Solex carb. I guess you can say the Chinese are improving their copying tactics. By the way...I was crying when you said "cloth covered Hitler's revenge fuel line. I was on the floor. Your friend Eric from Southern Cali.

  • @kenshelhamer9816
    @kenshelhamer9816 Před 5 lety

    The bug engines have fuel stand off at moderate rpm's, and the stock air filter base is designed to be tall enough to keep the suspended fuel from falling around and on the filter area. Extend the filter up 2 inches.
    No single carb. can be tuned if the crossover tube is partially or fully clogged and one end bolts to a higher pressure area than the other side so it will cross-flow a decent amount of heated gasses to significantly warm the base of the intake.
    The stock system also used manifold at low rpm to keep enough heated air going thru the carb. so it will stay warm enough to keep the fuel from being exposed to a cold carb. base plate and manifold where it will condense and cling to the inside walls of the intake manifolds. Carbs mounted over the heads absorb enough heat from the cylinder heads so that they don't condense. All this had to be done to get good drivability...even in warm weather.
    Your new pict. 3 needs it's idle to be adjusted with the butterfly fully closed. the screw on the idle arm is for doing just that. It is not an idle speed adjustment....thats the two screws on the left side. The pict 3 was meant to run with vacuum distributor. the aftermarket has some that work well.

    a 10 micron fuel filter.. (not all fuel filters are 10 micron.. most are around 70 micron) the one you have installed is probably 70micron. magnets on the bottom of the fuel tank unless you want to roll them in thru a piece of heater hose. or pulling the sending unit. on domestic cars and trucks i use a 1990 ford ranger fuel filter for 1/4 and 5/16 line applications but that is huge diameter filter. your fuel pump is filled with Sediment that you will continue to push into the carb needle and seat.. once you get a 10 micron fuel filter installed... fire up the engine to fill the carb.. but not warm up the engine.. disconnect the line at the carb.. extend the line into a clean clear soda bottle.. at least one liter size.. get somebody to start the engine and allow the engine to pump fuel into the bottle hopefully not dripping onto the distributor.. do this OUTSIDE YOUR GARAGE.. the full flow pulsing of filtered fuel will flush most if not all of the sediment out.. on domestic cars i crank the engine with the coil power unplugged so no spark can be created.. cranking for a timed 15 seconds.. and doing that 3 times in a row..
    Sediment in the fuel .. holds the carb needle and seat open.. allowing the carb to overflow.. i would love to see you get a filter before the fuel pump.. then do the 15 second full flow cranking flush.. to get all the sediment out of the pump cavity.
    under the car. drivers side.. if you replaced the fuel line above the left exhaust where it goes thru the cool tin.. did you replace the grommet where the fuel line passes thru the cool tin.. so its not cut thru.. split some fuel hose.. slip it thru the opening and around the fuel line and clamp it in place.
    the adapter under the carb was previously an EGR valve.. its a 74..

    Check the float on these things. The float in some of these can fill up with fuel. Theres a defect in the seam on the float. Also rejet the main jet i just used a really small drill bit to enlarge the jet so far so good but i recommend doing your research & using exact size jets. If your using a 009. Once i did that the fuel didn't boil in the carb any more.

    I purchased the same one.
    My bug runs when the choke is on.
    However, once I hit the gas after it has warmed up and off the step the bug will die. No matter what adjustments I do to the volume screw or the bypass adjust, nothing happens.

    • @davidteasdale1766
      @davidteasdale1766 Před 11 měsíci

      try this to help your idle, The screw on the left side of the carb, that is used for the choke step linkage, needs to be adjusted in when it is fully warmed up on the last step . ( choke fully open ). This will open up the throttle plate . If you take the carb off the car you can see this action when you adjust this screw. You want about .004 of an inch open throttle. This will cause a vacuum to pull fuel out the small ports just above the throttle plate. Then you can now adjust the bypass screw ( the big screw Lt side ) and the idle mixture screw ( smaller screw Lt side ). I hope this helps . Enjoy Cyprianskiba8768

    Why replace the carb? Just fix it. Bad inlet needle or float is an easy fix. The stock style single barrel carbs will run much better with the stock air cleaner. With the proper preheat pipe and engine breather. Engine will last better with a proper breather hook up too. They also run better with stock distributor instead of a Bosch OO9
