Great video so far Mike! I had to hit pause to let you know before I forget that you can get that max mod lens replaced free of charge from GoPro. They replaced the one that I attempted to polish out a few months ago. They are very delicate.

I bought the Skyneat Anamorphic lens. The advantage of it is that you can record up to 5K while the media lens can only record at 2.5K. They bought work the same purpose, widescreen.
I purchased the max lens and media mod for my Hero 10. Yes currently can on record at 2.7 but like you said, it’s not the lens fault but limitations of the camera. I got the lens any way as i will likely buy the 11 when it comes out late this year. Hopefully the 11 will have a bigger sensor allowing you to record that 4K, we will see. None then less the lens is awsome !

Works great for me if you want to know. The Skyreat 1.33x Anamorphic Lens makes you record beyond 4K.
Thanks for the video, just got a media mod for my gopro 9. I have a power handle from Ulanzi like the one you have in the video that is 5200mAH rechargeable and it works great keeping my gopro charged while out. I am not sure they still carry them now on Amazon but I know Joby makes one as well. I just checked and Ulanzi still has the BG-2 6800mAH Power hand grip. I got one of those a while ago for my other camera and it works well. It isn't grippy like the other one but works well. Newmowa makes one also.
I have the Max Lens Mod on my Hero 10. Given that it only does 4:3 I get a lot better vertical field of view, but horizontal (even with Max Superview), I dunno. See a lot of talk about stretching it to 16:9 in post processing, but, once again, I dunno. Though for my usage (so far) as a motorcycle vlog thing, it's great. The added vertical view is what I need more than horizontal. The horizon lock is cool too in that it accentuates the road and lean angles involved much better. I think it was well worth the $$ (given I got it at a healthy discount during Black Friday).
Just bought hero 10 gopro. And the bought the media mod just for the charging. Bought a 4000 and 5000 battery at Walmart for around 10.00. Just need to have a battery holder. But that will be the thing I will be working on
Anytime you use a chin mount chesty. You’ll get breathing. But I use the 9 as it comes. I planned on the media mod I plan on the 10 as well. And yes use a bigger sd card and battery back up. I dislike how ya have to use the feet on media mod. It need it own feet to mount.
8:11 indeed the MediaMod MICROFONE is excellent! You just have to set it up right. I made a video about it. You have to turn off the automatic wind reduction and choose where the direction of the microphone goes. Then it is EXCELLENT! and uncomparable to the normal GoPro Mic. :) Thank me later ;) I wanted to send the MediaMod back, because of the horrible audio quality but then I found this out and now it's so so good!
So if you have to change the viewpoint of where the audio is coming from, you have to go into the camera and change the setting from back to front, front to back each time? No thanks
When you turn the wind reduction off the media mod mic sounds much better. Why would they set the wind reduction on as default when they have that mic cover?
Ok I just found out what went wrong with my Max Lens Mod..The Lens is square ,so its not easy to find out if you did put the lens on the. right. side.The easy way to find out. The sign Max lens Mode has to be. on the left. side of the. Gopro . Then you know the lens is secure properly . Problem solved !! Now regarding the. Gimbal....after looking at my footage when I was just walking in the. street ....Its not butter smooth .....but I believe using. a. Gimbal will improve the footage ,so the. Gopro footage will look more smooth in my opinion.
Nice video.Question for you. When I use the Media Mod Lens , after looking at the. videos , I can see the frame of the Max lens on my footage sometimes....its kind of annoying.....What do i do wrong ? Or its just me.
I haven’t had that issue. If it is the max lens mod make sure it is fully secure to the GoPro on all for edges. Also make sure to turn on the setting for the max lens mod. That is all you should need to do.

Also , I think using a gimbal for the Gopro is very helpful when you are just walking in the street and recording with your. Gopro vs not having a gimbal at all....right??

I just tested and with the max lens mod and the GoPro quick software you can change your aspect ratio. So if you want to get the 9:16 or 1:1 you can still do that with the max lens.
Went through 3 media mods in a little over a year. Cheap plastic that will break. Lost video in left channel on numerous videos before realizing it. Crap build quality.

Oh yeah I have heard the 10 can do the 4:3 ratio. There are several features I am interested in on the Hero 10. Have fun with it.

One more disadvantage of Media mod is that it if you have display protector on rear display. Media mod will peel the protector off.

Yeah that seems odd they would default that on. I always turn that off.

If you have the hero 9 or 10 and it sounds like you do. I wouldn’t recommend a gimbal. The stability on it is so amazing you shouldn’t need it.

In the main menu you should see the option for max lens. Just toggle that on. No other settings have to change.

Gopro says right on their Max Lens page that it's not compatible with the Media Mod. I wonder why?
It is compatible. I have been using it for about a year with it now. That is odd they would list that.

Wow that is crazy. Hopefully the next one will be stronger. I haven’t had any issues with mine so far. Fingers crossed
