  • Siege needs a ton of work before it can be considered a truly modern game, that doesn't mean it's not impossible to get there. With a focus on new infrastructure from the bottom up, as well as modular design that can be applicable to a wide range of gameplay experiences, Siege can be a force to be reckoned with again, and it should be. The biggest problem with siege cheaters is that among all the games that have cheats siege might be the easiest to hide the fact that you are cheating (provided that you have a good fundamental understanding of the game). I have played last season almost daily and thought wow i didn't get as many cheater but then towards the end i started getting the RP reset popup because there were cheaters in my prev games. Also I'm a plat player and what you said about not knowing that you died because you made a mistake or because the other guy is cheating is such a big hindrance to improving at this game.

In point 2, I'm hearing a lot of excuses for why Ubisoft can't get rid of cheaters. When TF2 who has had a far older code base, a FAR smaller team working on it, and far more bot problems has actually done the "Treadmill work" and managed to improve the game massively in a matter of days. But Siege can't. Right. I should lower my expectations for the company who are selling me garbage and continually making micro-transaction content in a broken game. Obviously, this isn't an attack on the devs, they cant fix shit without manager approval, and fixing the cheating problem isn't yet profitable enough for them to be told to do it, that's why. It has nothing to do with these excuses listed in this video.
If there was ever a true code vulnerability, exploit, etc. that let people give out store items or alpha packs, THAT would get patched out in no time, obstacles like "Small team" "Old code base" and "strategic planning requirements" be damned, Because it would affect the bottom line. Your lack of enjoyment in playing the game does not- the revenue comes from the whales who will spend 500$ a month to get every cosmetic even if ranked is unplayable.
Moving onto point 3 and The excuses made for their lack of communication being "Oh well they don't get good feedback" so what- the answer is to not ask for feedback at all? To just do whatever the fuck they want, ignore what people don't like about what they do, and keep truckin along after having proven they don't know what they're doing? Like they have been when they WERE getting feedback? The number of times a patch said "We know people won't like this change" or something in the same vein is STAGGERING. Yet they're surprised they get "bad" feedback??? They do dumb shit like nerfing an operators gun because his utility is too strong. We got the LMG meta because "You're playing the game wrong" was how they balanced it. You could go on and on.
Love ya G but you're defending indefensible crap. You're coping so hard you're suggesting they're going to do some revolutionary pve gameplay with "AI" off the most vague of vibes, when they removed T-hunt for no reason. AI is not going to save the game, it's always been a dead end and there is zero communication about them having anything like this in the works.
You're even making excuses for why EXTRACTION failed, dude come on. It was a bad game, it wasn't circumstance. This entire video feels less like a attempt to inform someone of what Siege needs to do to survive, and more like a defense of the company. Not even just the devs- you're literally doing the "Leave the BILLION dollar corporation alone" meme. Why?

Another thing I would like to mention here is how terrible the Ubisoft servers, the launcher, and the live service actually is. This game can't get the improvement as it should when even the main company could not provide the resources, the infrastructure and the manpower for this game. This game is so fun, but what's the point if you can't get in to the game itself ?
9 years of using their live service models, yet me and my friends still have random times that could not connect to the server at all, even when the server is not down. Sometimes just one have infinite loading/ connection problem, and the very next time the same thing happend to another friend.
Countless times of us doing their troubleshooting steps, verifying files, Uninstall/Reinstalling the game, searching for online solutions, Flush DnS, internet caches, etc. No solution, didn't work. And everything turns normal again the next week. The back end framework was terrible.
Not to mention the autoreply customer services. You spend most of your time waiting for reply and yet still get the same AI responses.
We really love this game, and we know how much struggle the Siege devs have to go through. But we just can't be struggling to connect to servers while not thinking how much money Ubisoft gets from us, while not improving their client and provide more support to this game.

  • @orcaofmordor
    @orcaofmordor Před 11 dny +4

So the discussion on the single-player tactical command aspect and the reference to Republic Commando immediately made me think of Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2 and how they did really well both giving you the "boots-on-the-ground" view with a protagonist shooting bad guys, but also made it so that you could maneuver your squadmates and think a little bit strategically. I think the most impressive thing is really just how simple it was- it was slick and easy to issue commands, usually only requiring a button or two, but it also encouraged you to think tactically so that Michael and Jung don't get downed and then you have to take the engagements and risk your neck to save them. There was always a feeling of immense satisfaction from taking a quick moment to recon the area with the snake cam, pick out targets, decide your ROE and then pick how you want to enter the room. Their AI is fairly impressive, especially for 2006-08, and they can handle themselves without ever feeling like they're overpowered or useless.
Obviously, it's going to be a bit different with Siege because there's so many different gadgets and interactions between them, but I feel like Ubisoft could lean into something like that for a solid singleplayer experience with Siege if they wanted. However, the question of "will they?" is a different matter entirely.

I love how your focus with cheaters is on self assesment more than them cheating, if you know the anti cheat is not good you start thinking every good player is cheating and even the good matches leave you disappointed. For example, in CS2 whenever you die to a weird play you automatically assume the person is cheating because the anti cheat is non existant, but in VALORANT you look at how you played it and accept the fact that you got out played. Security of knowing there are no cheaters is as important as the anti cheat itself. Great video and awesome points you brought up!

So it wasnt much of a concern to them that the game is a spaghetti mess and by the time they realized this game is their money maker and the cheating epidenmic, it was too late to do a quick fix. Its quite interesting to me where Siege has come to. I left playing the game in the middle of the last season. One thing that I would mention is that if they need to refactor/rework the game's architecture in accordance to modularity and security, they would need to do it alongside the current game. Technical debt is a bitch, and you commit to things and promises for the sake of the deadline. However, if they do rework the game along side and the player base gives them a break, they can skip on easing off the art department with keeping the models, visuals and everything art related the same. It can just be a code rework. But looking at the community, that ain't happening lol

Its happening not for the reasons you might think. Cheating is an ENTIRE industry worth of revenue stream for them. For whatever insane reason, cheaters are going through getting copies of the game under diff email addresses + phone numbers to cheat repeatedly. Ubi knows this, and wants to keep that as a source of income. it just isnt being said because ubi admitting that wouldnt be a great move.

One thing I want to add is that they shouldn’t be using by denuvo in the new R6. There’s a very well written steam review for R6 Extraction that explains exactly what Ubi should and shouldn’t do in depth, but the tldr is that Ubi should not have complete control of R6 as a game. We as players should be able to play R6 vs Ai offline and even when servers for R6 go down in the future permanently, we should be able to run our own games and host our own servers. I know this also kind of tackles the idea of game ownership and that whole can of worms, but I would hate if R6 had a situation like Crew2 where none of the players d CDs and play the game anymore ever again simply because Ubi had complete control and decided to pull the plug. This was probably a pretty messy explanation, but I simply love R6 as a game too much to have it ever die for me. I love every operator and how unique they are, and even when I’m 30 or smth 12 years from now, I want to be able to play the game even if the servers have gone down for good.

Demanding an "Operating Health 2.0" was a pretty popular thing to do for a lomg time. Now we got our operation health but it's not seen as that. It is seen as the worst content update the game has ever had, with a new subscription system as an added F U on top

As you said Siege has ALOT of content to move over, and that takes time. So realistically it could be a year of just trickling in operators in batches before we even get new ops, but if it meant a new game from the ground up with actually effective anticheat it could be the play.

The issue isnt battleye battleye does its job if you use a cheat that battleye knows of u get banned u csnt even get into a round the second you connect banned but if theres a new cheat battleye doesnt know about and it doesnt violate or ring any alarm bells because the cheat dev knows what he is doing you have a cheat which is not detected the way battleye csn detect it is if they buy it themselves and reverse the entire cheat idk who has knowledge of reversing but its a lot of work and cheat devs also heavily obfuscate their code so that reversing becomes an even more tedious job and most of these cheats have even further protection which is why some cheats go undetected for months so the onky way to ban them is manual sure ragehackers are an easy ban but people hiding it well enough is another thing for you as a player it might seem weitd or you are 100% sure hes cheating but to ubisoft who dont really play the game on the same level or whoever is doing the manual bans it just seems like a normal good player so they dont want to falsely ban people its not battleye its the cheat devs who are putting in too much work for a cheat in a video game

I don't think the problem is that Ubisoft doesn't have a plan, I think it's that Ubisoft has displayed their fundamental inability to address real mechanical issues with their games as a whole - For Honor, The Division 1 & 2, Rainbow 6 Siege, Skull and Bones, etc. They're incompetent. I don't believe this is a passion issue, or an ambition issue, it's a competency and resource issue. They said on their roadmap that they are going to try to implement the first AI Anti-Cheat, okay but like you said... when.. realistically could that be implemented and more than that.. will it even be effective knowing how again... incompetent Ubisoft is at these kinds of things. Ubisoft as a company has created a shit ton of awesome and unique ideas in the gaming market and I love them for that, but my god all of their games are plagued by very similar things. If it isn't already obvious enough, I'm at the point where I just have no faith in them to create games with true integrity anymore. Their games will still be interesting, they will continue to propose cool and amazing ideas, but their follow through will likely continue to be complete shit and so for that... I'm out.

at this point they'd be better off to just make Siege 2 on an entirely new codebase and with entirely new balancing but I doubt they'll do that. It's Ubisoft we're talking about here, I have ZERO faith in them whatsoever as they have done absolutely nothing in the past 5 or so years that would warrant giving them any trust. They overexerted themselves with too many projects and games that either nobody wanted or that were just stuck in development hell forever while neglecting their actually liked and played games (For Honor, Siege) and I don't see how they'll maneuver themselves out of it. They're still stuck in a perpetual cycle of chasing the next big service game, releasing one bland nothingburger nobody wants to play after the other and completely ignoring what their potential customers and current customers actually want and they're starting to suffer heavily because of it.
If they can't get their shit together in the next 1-2 years they'll either be going under or will get bought by someone else.

They of course would to pay the employees for all that time while making less content and money in the live game. It would not be a financially wise decision.
Again as much as I would love it, I doubt it will happen. And for the less content we are getting, whether it’s the named Operation Health 2.0 or wether they are now slowing down due to technical limitations or resistance, it’s concerning to many players.
