By far, this is the best video you have ever made. There is so much information, particularly the modifications to the bow. Guns require a massive infrastructure to build and maintain a supply of ammunition which may not exist after a zombie apocalypse. Plus guns give away your position. Well done, you made a great video.👍

These are going for around $170 USD here with the limbs going for $85. Very informative video however and it's always great to see the modifications you like for making the bow a bit more quiet and accurate.
I have a Samick Sage and this video helped me so much in setting it up properly. Your other archery videos have also taught me a lot, so keep up the good work!
Lilly, if you use string whiskers (or some kind of fur etc) try putting them at different lengths from the end of the bow - it can be more effective due to the way harmonics work (and putting them a little closer to the end of the bow can help you maintain as much speed as possible whilst still dampening the string effectively).
Another tip, when putting felt into the limb pockets, use enough felt that you can also dampen the gap between the pocket and the base of the limb (the cross-sectional area).
These two things can have a significant impact on noise and vibration.
I’ve been in archery for a long time and have several bows. However my favourite is still my Samick Polaris recurve. I don’t know why but it’s a joy to shoot. I’m a left handed shooters and managed to get one easily. I’ve had the same bow for around 20 years and it is still performing as new 👍
When using anti-seize on something like those limb bolt holes, run the screw alone in until it just bottoms out before attaching the limbs. That way you know the paste extends a bit past where the bolt will ever go with the limb in place, and you're protected if you store the bolts in the holes while disassembled.
Also a bit of removable spray adhesive on your cloth shims (spray the riser side, put the shim in place, some cling wrap , then bolt the limb on until the adhesive dries) will keep them in place while it's disassembled so you have fewer bits to keep up with.
An alternate to a leather arrow rest is to use the loop half of a self adhesive hook and loop (velcro) strip. Also, ordinary waterproof grease will work in the absence of copper anti-seize grease.
Finally, wool yarn works well for a string silencer. Cut a dozen or so pieces 4-5 inches long, bundle them and attach with a small zip tie, nylon thread or through the string as in the video. After a few shots, the pieces of yarn form a fuzzy ball.
The Samick Sage was my first "takedown" recurve bow. I agree, it's the best for beginners. I would then move up to a SinoArt 58 if you want something with a shorter riser. It's more compact, it does require a hex wrench, but you can get the bolted type that lily has on the Samick. I've got a pretty stock build, I shoot the 65 limbs. for most guys, I'd go with 35/40 pds for beginners and the absolute lightest for the gals out there unless you've got a thicker build. Don't forget the string wax and an extra string!

You are absolutely right. Samick Sage is the best bow for under $100. I got a 55# one that's incredible! It's a take down with thumb nuts exactly like yours, same finish. I like the satin finish better, less reflection. I store mine inside a military surplus bag for the USMC machine gun barrels. It fits perfectly with room for take down arrows. But I think more importantly than the bow being fancy or expensive is practicing with it until it becomes an extension of yourself. You could make a self bow for even less money as long as you can place an arrow exactly where you want it. And even more important, when it counts, like hunting for food.

My son who is 11, and of course much smaller than me, shots it together with me, without any issues. I bought Hoyt Satori, but I still prefer Samick Sage, because I'm still not used to 55# Satori.

i shot several beginner class bows at the club and tried some at a shop. At the end of the day i walked out with a Samick Sage.
With 30 lbs draw it shoots very accurate and easy for me. After a while i will get a better compettion bow, but the Samick Sage is the perfect training bow.
Easy to adjust. Sometimes i train with a 5 lbs less limbs pair, to be able to easily shoot for a longer time. For traditional, you can't go wrong to start on this.
I bought two of them years ago at 60 lbs draw with set of 45 lbs limbs also extra limbs were 40 bucks and the bows were around 80 bucks each great price and they shoot very well I put leather limb savers just under where the string touches the limbs and lama hair 4 inches down from there shooting 400 spine 200 grain up front vertualy no noise at all b proper brace height is they key in noise reduction happy shooting. I've had my Samick Sage for years, hunting, target, competition, still a sweet, comfortable bow to shoot. I recently changed my limbs down to #40 from #45, (age, mine!) still my go-to bow in spite of the others that I have.

I bought my first bow a couple years ago. I was going to buy this one because of your video on your Samick SHT. After doing a lot of research I decided to go with the Southwest Archery Spider. From what I read one of the original designers from samick moved to Southwest. They basically use the same style but made it a little more sleek and not as boxy. I would love to see you do a review on this as well!

Great video. Due to some health issues, I can't pull a recurve or compound bow anymore, so I hunt with a crossbow now. I was amazed at its accuracy and the killing power of it when I first tried it.

$100? $150 up in the US. Still an awesome lil bow to take on camping trips with the kids. We got into buying old pawn shop bows. $20 for an Bear Whitetail. Restring and some lube it’s actually my favorite to practice with. It will for sure get your arms and stance correct.
Recurves and fingers forever! My recurve (if I can still even string and pull it) is 53 lb. draw weight. I do have a set of three-pin sights, but shoot off the shelf. Bear Takedown bow.
A buddy of mine has a Sage and he loves it. He uses it with a fishing rig that mounts to the stabilizer receptacle. Anyway. Best of Days to You and Yours.

I love shooting on the 3D range, and crafting my own Hunting practice Arrows. I actually have a Hoyt Satori Traditional Bow on order, as I thought I'd get one before inflation hits it hard.
Have you ever tried Carbon/Bamboo limbs?
They are super smooth that pulling 45lb Carbon/Bamboo feels lighter than pulling 40lb Fiberglass limbs, due to much less stacking.

I have to say though, that slow is a relative word. With e.g. 40 pound limbs, I don't think this bow appears as slow at all. One of my bows is a Samick Sage and I am thinking of buying 35 limbs just to save the life of my targets a bit...
Also I think this bow does not need velcro on the limb tips. It is OK without. String silencers are preferred though.
Yet, another thing. There is self-adhesive velcro that work on the shelf just as well (you don'tneed to put superglue on there, which might be difficult to take away). I have even tried thin self-adhesive furniture felt paws for the shelf and side which has worked great too.
Thumbs up! My very first bow was a recurve, wood/fiberglass laminated limbs. I was pulling 66lb at my draw length, alot of practice arrows and alot of game meat, and it lasted 40 years, the top limb broke about five years ago :(

For stringing, put the top loop of the string over the limb (not the string nock), put the bottom loop in the string nock, then put the cup end of the stringer over the bottom string nock, and the loop over the top limb, (further down the limb where the string is) pull the bow while stood on the stringer, and just slide the string into the top loop

i started out on the samick sage #45 in 2015 and still have have it to this day. lovely bow and i wouldnt replace it. i have it in a soft take down bow case. next to my sas manticore 150 pound recurve crossbow, which is itself is lovely and shoots accurately at 25 yards with iron sights no problem with 20 inch bolts and 100 grain tips

I bought one right before the scamdemic. Shot thousands of arrows through it. Been taking it hunting 3 years. Thought of getting a "better" bow but not sure I would benefit. Plus I'm not worried about setting it down and dragging it through the woods.
this bow is accurate. there is now reason why you should buy a more expensive bow which has the same accuracy.
Love that bow, it takes to modifications very easily and with a elevated rest and button combo its super accurate. It looks alot prettier with that risor medallion then when I got mine when it first came out.

Im Laufe der Zeit kamen andere Wurfarme dazu , aber selbst jetzt , 9 Jahre später leistet er immer nocht gute Dienste in den Händen meiner Stieftochter und meiner Partnerin . Zum Üben recht er alle mal ! Ob der Bogen trifft liegt nicht am Bogund Visier anbauen en , das ist Sache des Schützen . Wir Schießen ihn alle als Blankbogen , aber man kann jederzeit Button und Visier nachrüsten . Preiswerter geht es kaum !

One hundred bucks?! That bow looks really nice 👌 My daughter is no longer able to compete at the school she transferred to, but I now want my own bow to practice, myself.
A piece of 10#, adhesive backed Velcro, works great for the arrow shelf.
My Samick Sage costs a bit more, but I like it very much. I practice at 10 feet in my basement and I use a Whisker Bisquit to get the arrow to fly straight. I paid about $150 some years ago. One deciding factor was the grip- the Samick has a very comfortable round grip. I use a wrist-mounted release. A bow like this is a legitimate option for home defense.

I have just ordered a samick sage myself, originally i wanted a bow in a complete set, from a local company, they called it the "hunter kit" but they didnt have any available, so i made my own kit on their website, using the samick sage as the bow, then got all of the kit parts separately, and it worked out around the same cost
One thing i have thought about regarding prepping is, making bow strings and arrows, the bow itself should last a good many years, but the string is what i would call a "wear part" and arrows can snap, bend, the vanes/flights and nocks can be destroyed, and it would be good to be able to make all your own parts in a SHTF situation, because i can imagine the bow being the only thing left after so long
Ammunition for guns runs out, and you cant really make more, knives are ok, you can sharpen them, but there not really good for hunting, so, preppers need to figure out how to keep their bows in fully working condition, by making their own strings and arrows
Hello Russel, Thanks for your message. I have shot bows and used the same bowstring for 7+ years and they basically never rip. If you are concerned about that get 2 or 3 bowstrings and they will last you a life time. Just wax them and that's the only maintenance you have to do.

I have a cheap PSE bow from years ago. I have done some simple mods and still learning but has gotten more accurate and works well. It's true you do not have to spend big money on the bow itself. Get good strings and wax them and find a silence system. Add buffers if a take down type.

I had the cheaper copy of this, the Epic Hawke with 55 lb limbs. Shot it for a couple years and the riser came apart. It let go at full draw and and gave me a huge fright and a big red welt on my stoumach. I still have another one with 40 lb limbs and it's riser is separating too.
I had some spray rubber in a can Flex seal. tightened right up and nice and quiet

I got a martin Jaguar You can find 1 used less than 100$ . It has an aluminum riser so you can outfit it like a compound with quality sites and accessories . Mine has accessories like a vibration dampener a d loop for a release and a whisker biscuit . Also fiberoptic sites. A samick is nice but if Im gonna hunt , they can be a bit delicate . Extra limbs are a good idea. Don't under estimate the importance of quality arrows and arrow heads that don't fail at crappy times. Also I don't like taking a bow down . It never seems to set exactly the same so I lock tite everything I can. I like beaver balls string silencers on my recurve. Also I think nothing beats a good leather forearm guard that fits right. Get a whisker biscuit and your bow will be much quieter. Good job .

Considering that most early bows were taken from a tree and had made and quite crude, never the less deadly, the more expensive to me is just pure snobbery, and in a survival situation its best to keep things as simple as posible, i have a samick and it brilliant and well underestimated.

These resemble October mountain bows. Only bows I hunt with. I have the 35, 45 and 50 depending on what I am hunting. I love my recurves from OMP. Must be the same company, they are exactly the same including price. Take downs are awesome.
