    The flat widescreen trinitron models were like my dream TV back in the 90s but they were too expensive for a teen

    Pretty sure my family had this exact tv back in the day. It fills me with nostalgia seeing one again, as well as those old-ass on-screen menus lol. We never had that sub-addon thing, however. Shame I didn't know any better than to not object to throwing it away years ago.
    Thank you for the nostalgia trip and for showcasing these relics!

    interesting that it doesn't have component in. if there's teletext it should be fairly simple to tap in on in, it's just a matter of identifying the chip and pinouts. Wish we would've had sets like this in Scandinavia, we transitioned to widescreens after curved tube dark case TVs. Needed 3 people at least to carry them

    Such big diagonal and NO Scart RGB????? What a letdown.

      I know, no RGB of any type is always disappointing

      Every Australian Sony Trinitron TV doesn’t get RGB SCART from factory. I guess Sony believes that RGB SCART should ONLY be reserved for Europe and Japan with their JP21.

    Damn, this adds more mystery to this one set I have. It has the same exact plastic grooves as this one on the top of the set for the woofer, yet no wire outputs for it and a EU style power cable.

    • @rgbrob
      @rgbrob  Před 5 měsíci

      oh thats interesting, yours probably has a different chassis or slight variation so as to not have speaker terminals.

      Wouldn't be surprised if there are empty solder joints or if I just didn't look hard enough, it's a KV-XS29M80.

    I think hours are shown if you press (-) instead of (+). What is the best 50Hz tube in your opinion?

    Hello Rob, I would like to ask you a question about RGB SCART ports and their compatibility with component cables. It is a bit long I apologise but I am kind of curious.
    I have a Sony KV-28HX15B (UK/Ireland Television) with two SCART connectors. One with RGB and the other with S-Video.
    My question is, i've seen in your videos you have used a component to SCART plug on occassion including on an Australian widescreen Sony CRT very similar to mine (edit: in your video on the KD-32DX40AUS for example) . So is there any way to see if my TV can take component over SCART when connected into my RGB port? If there is no way to see in the service manual and if I were to purchase a component SCART plug and test it out for myself, in the case my TV can't properly take a YPBPR signal, will this do any damage to my tube?
    I might be a bit paranoid with the last question but I just want to be sure I don't attempt something silly. I subscribed :)

    • @rgbrob
      @rgbrob  Před 5 měsíci

      no you wont do any damage try to run component video into the scart sockets. Modifying values in the service menu would be a little more risky. It appears your TV also uses the FE-2 chassis like the my KD-32DX40AUS, so there is a very good chance you can change from RGB to YUV and back when you need? So yours is currently in RGB? Do you have the RGB Centring option in your menu system?

      @@rgbrob Hello and thanks for responding. I've just checked there and yes my TV should be currently in RGB and has the RGB centring option in the menu. I have my Wii connected via RGB SCART and the TV has no problems detecting it or my Xbox via RGB.
      Does changing from RGB to YUV allow YPBPR signal?

    • @rgbrob
      @rgbrob  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes it will allow YPBPR signal. Anything above 480i (NTSC standard) and 576i (PAL standard wont work. So it wont display 480p, 720p or 1080p or 1080i for that matter. What sort of YPBPR devices are you looking to use?@@vtec5862

    • @vtec5862
      @vtec5862 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@rgbrob Cheers thats great to hear.
      I have component cables for my Xbox 360 and i'm looking at getting component cables for my PS2 aswell (currently using S-Video for both)
      The oem RGB cable for the Xbox 360 isn't easy to find and third party ones aren't made by the likes of RGC. I'm find with running component only on 480i, I think the Xbox 360 on SD CRTs is severely underrated.
      The PS2 I could probably get an RGB cable easily but I'm thinking of trying out new types of cable for each of my consoles so if i could try component this time its worth a shot.
