    Just got one of these exact models that was really low hours! the guy said he intended to use it for security but never really got around to it. Factory remote and everything... Just had been sitting in his basement practically since purchase. And it was my first CRT sice childhood! Absolutely fallen in love since, bought component cables for my PS2 and Wii, and thus the CRT craze is heavily cemented in me

    I have a 32" Trinitron. Looks AMAZING! Even the sound channels are so clean, I hear instrumentation that I never knew existed on games I'd played for over 25+ years. The colors are vivid and don't bleed. I use S-Video and component cables. I've never seen PS1 & 2 games look so crisp until gaming on the Trinitron.

    I recently bought a brand new 2007 model 14 inch RCA 14F512T still in its box with manual and remote, even the original batteries still wrapped in plastic were included. PS1, Saturn, PS2, and GameCube/Wii games look amazing when connected via S-Video.
    The Sony Trinitron might still have the edge in overall image quality, but I find that late model flat screen CRTs from any brand tend to have great picture quality as CRT tech basically peaked and most companies were very competent at manufacturing CRTs by the early to mid 2000s.

    I have the 24” version of this T.V. It marked my return to owning a CRT set since I left them behind in 2011. Back then, I owned a Magnavox tube with RCA out. Played a lot of N64 and Xbox on it. I have to say, I was blown away at the quality of this Sony set. It caused me to seek out another, bigger set. While I still have this set, much to the dismay of my wife, I located a 36” 2001 KV-36FS13 which is my main set. I love the component hook-up to my vintage Onkyo 2.1 speaker setup. It’s my old-skool rig and I love it.

    I have a '27FS120, found it on the freaking curb 3 years ago, still going strong! Love it! The geometry is a bit warpy in motion, even after messing with the service menu, but it's acceptable. It does have S-video and 2 component jacks, which is nice.

  • @sixtyfps
    @sixtyfps Před 2 měsíci +1

    I realized that a comment thread from someone talking about being unable to disable the 'red push' was deleted after I countered with information about running color calibration in the service menu. I assure you all, it's possible. Component on my KV-24FS120 is very close to reference. Be aware that if you mess around in the service menu and throw stuff off enough and save it, you can damage or render your set inoperable. Also, you'll want to make sure you have a colorimeter.
    (Here's where I'm gonna recommend Lex Locatelli's video on calibration. I don't know alot about this stuff, but it's a good primer.)
    For component video, adjust the following values in the VP1 section: At the low end of the 10-point IRE scale, tweak RCUT, GCUT, BCUT, and SBRT. At the high end of the 10-point IRE scale, adjust RDRV, GDRV, BDRV, and SCON.
    These aren't the only things to touch; you should also be mindful of hue and chroma, which you can dial in on the SMPTE color bars.

    I got one of these for 10usd like 2 hours/60 miles round trip from my house. Way happy I picked it up. The older guy said he played ghost recon competitively with it. He seemed pretty nostalgic and watched as I drove off with it. It's just sitting in my closet now that I moved to a smaller place but can't get myself to get rid of it. Also had a latin kv-21fa310 with subwoofer but it had magenta whites that I couldn't fix. Left it on the curb in the move 😭

    I have a KV-21LT1B & KV-14LT1B pair, both beautiful FD Trinitron's, very bright with one of the highest luminance outputs I have seen, also very sharp with deep inky blacks, I prefer my 25" curved Super-Black-Trinitron, as I believe the last generation curved Trinitron's to be the best tubes they ever made, probably why all the fancy 4:3 PVM's & BVM's use the curved tubes, the FD ones had to use much thicker glass fronts, which seems to downgrade the image quality somewhat, you get that beautiful lens effect with the curved sets that just makes everything pop, that said, the later FD Trinitrons had some gun upgrades so it balances out, it's probably just more a preference thing in the end, I do love how PS1, Saturn & N64 looks on a curved Trinitron though, and how good Dreamcast, PS2, GC, OGXB looks on an FD Trinitron, tube type also makes a difference depending on whether you're looking at sprite or polygon based graphics too, sprites like more rounded subpixel, polygons love a slotmask or aperture grill, and there is the best of both, the dot-trio, especially the Hitachi ED mask tubes (enhanced-dot-mask), which may be the best CRTs there are if you can actually find one.

    Have this tube, got it for $20 off FB marketplace a couple years ago and replaced a toshiba you did a review on that you gave the weakest review to lol it’s a solid set and works great for all media unlike my Toshiba that was terrible with movies on vhs and ld. I too noticed the shaking in the image in 240p and no one has found a solution to it but like you said from a distance you don’t notice. Even though it doesn’t support the scart mod I use mike chi’s rgb2comp converter and must say rgb content looks phenomenal on it through component. I hear the colors are more solid when doing a mod and using straight scart without component conversion but honestly difference seems subtle to me.

    I have the 26" version of this Trinitron. I completely gutted in and installed it board and all into my arcade cabinet. I've had a few FS and FV series Sony sets over the years, but I prefer the look of my S series set with curved tube glass. The FS and FV sets had crappy filtering built into the component inputs whereas my RGB/Component modded S42 does not.
    The Wega sets can get more vivid than the curved glass S series Sony's, but that's really where the advantages end.

I wish there were someone in town that could work on mine because it has a very slight "twitch" in the picture and the geometry is off a bit. Other than that the color and sharpness make it perfect for retro gaming.

  • @lucaspam

    I haven't got lucky with Wega CRT sets. I've bought two of them and both had a very nasty red color bleeding on the white color. It's a tube issue that is not repairable, unfortunately. But I would be happy if I got one of these in good shape. It's a great TV set.

    On most YT films refering to retro gaming up to sixth gen consoles (up to ps2) usually everybody complains on HDCRT. So how it is generally??
    Is 16:9 fine? Is Flat screen fine? Is 100Hz in Europe fine?
    Or good ones are only flat crts but still with 4:3?
    I am rly confused 🤔

    I recently got this very model. I've been pretty impressed by it - it's got better geometry and convergence than my 32" Trinitron. The lack of S-Video is a bummer, so I decided to pick up a Koryuu for that purpose. It's not perfect on resolution switches, but it's more than good enough.

    • @jaystephens3115

      What’s a Koryuu? Is it something that converts s-video to component?

    • @sargesmash1
      @sargesmash1 Před 2 měsíci

      @@jaystephens3115 Yep yep. It was really designed more with the OSSC scaler in mind, but also works just fine with CRTs. It's still digital in its underlying design, which is why it doesn't perfectly handle resolution transitions, but it's still extremely fast, only showing a bit of jitter before locking in again.

    I had a couple of the 24" version of this tv. Those along with 3 other later model trinitrons all had the "shaky" screen that you mentioned. I like to call it "the jiggles." I couldn't stand it, and once I noticed it I just couldn't unsee it. I got rid of all my trinitrons for this reason. Funny enough, I also have 4 pvms but none of them have this issue. I'm convinced this is a consumer trinitron problem across the board, I'd love to know a fix for it.

    Darn. I found a KV-32FS210 on the curb about 1-2 months ago and haven’t found a single video about it that lasts more than 30 seconds. It’s beautiful though when gaming! And weighs 170 pounds..
    Mine came out in 2006 and I think it cost around $500-600 MSRP when I saw an old ad for it, not sure if that was its launch price though.
    Edit: mine has not been recapped or cleaned up, it’s in pretty rough shape, no remote and no front flap, but it still works. I would love to get it freshened up but atm I don’t have those skills
    10:25 I have noticed in snes games in composite playing DKC when bananas go by there is ghosting or trails for the color yellow only. Not sure why that is but I assumed it was composite only, but you have it on component for a game on snes also

    The MSRP price even in 2024 standard got you OLED like picture quality. Now you have to spend 5x more for an OLED TV which can rival a picture quality of a CRT yet can’t do composite, s-video, and even component. Input lag still awful, motion blur still there, and you can’t still properly scale 240P to look just as sharp (low resolution will look bad on oled but not on crt). Oh for $450 you might be getting a Chinese made TCL or Hisense (more like Lowsense) LED TV. It’s so bad that my Toshiba CRT look far better than those LED TV in fact it better than QLED and mini LED and OLED in motions and scaling.
