1930s Wyandotte Folding Wing Airplane Restoration

- I purchased this 1930s Wyandotte Folding Wing Airplane as a lot with several other extremely rusty planes. The person I bought them from stated he found them in his grandparents basement in a five gallon bucket that had filled up with water. You can definitely tell that it's had a rough life, but then again, it's 90 years old! I'll be lucky if I make it to 90. This poor little airplane was missing its wheels, and propeller. I researched and found that this model had two color variations. A blue body with red folding wings or a red body with blue folding wings. I decided that I liked the red body better. overall this was a fun little project and it'll go nicely with the rest of the collection. As always, THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! I can honestly say you're one of the few that does true restorations not staged restoration. The things you restore have genuine age, wear and rust not that strange artificial rust some people add . You projects really turn out beautiful.
How can you tell they artificially rust the items. I'm curious
@@Jar0fMay0
It a combination of hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and salt that's painted on the item or the item is dipped in. Look up how to artificially rust metal and you'll find some videos on how to do it. Also how to spot fake rust is the color if it's orange and red rust all over the item it's probably a artificial rust job but if the rust is varied colors of red ,orange, brown and black and the rust is patchy and uneven. Thicker is some spots of the item and almost none in other areas and you can see spots of the original finish. Also no bugs if it it's been in a shed or attic for years it's gonna be a spider hotel. I hope this helps with spotting the fake stuff.
@@Jar0fMay0 he's right look up xbox restoration its a rusty xbox RUSTY XBOX lmao

The best thing about this toy is that it leaves a lot to the imagination. That's what makes it so much fun to play with!!
This might be the worst case of surface rust on a tin i have seen yet. I would imagine that there's not many of those left around. Thank you Chip for keeping it around and looking good👍
Kinda makes you start guessing on what he will restore next
Or her '90s

I have one, it was my fathers when he was a boy. Mine is missing the propeller and the wheels, but still has much of its original paint.
Very nice craftsmanship propeller airplane I like this plane. 🛩️🛩️⭐🌟🌠👏👍
There is A LARGE amount of material for future restoration, its just waiting for you. That protective plastic sheet is genius for keeping the truck pristine.
I've already realized it that; this iron toy airplane, was in bad need for repairs. The most renowned kind of solution; for all rusty iron toys is, the MC51 rust remover. ✈
Who else was eyeing the toy pile intently, as it scrolled by, looking (Where's Waldo style) for the sheeps? 🤓
Always!
@John Barber Yes, Dear. I was being silly.
@John Barber 😉 no biggie
@John Barber The plural of sheep is actually sheepies. Everyone knows that.😊
@John Barber 😂or that.
Love the sounds of the trains!🚂 Great restoration!
So sorry so many of us love the sheep 🐑 participation but they're such friendly little guys!
You never cease to amaze me, a less talented person would have discarded something that rusted but you always manage to restore these forgotten treasures to pristine condition!
Now then, please tell me that the sheep in the clouds doesn't indicate that they've gone to that great mutton farm in the sky!
I was going to ask if these toy companies made toy rockets or tanks, then I realized there were no rockets in 1930. Very relaxing to watch. TY.
The first "Flash Gordon" science fiction serial was in 1936.
It was on January 22, 1930, that Buck Rogers first ventured into space aboard a rocket ship in the newspaper comic strip.
So rocket type toys were possible in the 1930s.
Tanks were used in the First World War, so there were probably some of them around n the '30s.
@@rogerrabbit80 TY. I didn't know about Flash Gordon back then. When I think Flash Gordon I think of the campy 80's movie with Queen on music.
@@brandonb1681 Interesting bit of trivia.
In the 1980s TV show, "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century", there was an episode where Buck Rogers was flying with a retired pilot, Major Gordon. At one point, Buck gives Gordon some advice, to which Gordon replies "I've been doing this since before you were born".
This is funny on several levels. Since Buck Rogers had been in suspended animation for 500 years was the obvious one. But "Major Gordon" refers to Flash Gordon, whose adventures were made into serials before Buck Rogers.
Also, Major Gordon was played by "Buster" Crabbe, who played both Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers long before Gil Gerard (the actor playing Rogers) was born.
@@rogerrabbit80 I was quite young but I remember the modern Buck Rodgers episode you reference. I believe they were decimated by bad food disks, so they called older pilots out of retirement. I guess I should really check out the originals for both of these IP's. Thanks again for your input Roger Rabbit.
Loved the restoration. The axles weren’t your best work in my opinion. I figured you would have mushroomed the ends. Still a great restoration though! Love your channel and the sheep!
Yeah, those sharp edges would not pass safety tests today.
That's a nice looking airplane folding wings wonderful. 🛩️🛩️⭐🌟🌠✨
I'm probably not to first to post this but the child that owned that toy would be in his ninetys now.
Only if he or she is alive
Who said it was a child?
Ok
*Ok, boomer*
(I don’t mean it, I just thought it was appropiate.)
@@Rocherz you do mean it
putting plastic on the wrecker was a great idea. You should call around to your local sign shops and get a few pieces of clear laminate that we use for vinyl wraps. It sticks really well (almost permanent), and allows air to dissipate from under it. That way you can protect the wrecker bed and also use on the dump trucks, etc. Only get wrap vinyl laminate tho, the rest is really thin and hard to work with. Just a tip from a sign guy!
23:29 tremendous collection has there!
Kids really didn't have toys in those days. That must have been such a prized possession.
My dear old mom passed away today. She would have been seven years old when the toy was new, at the beginning of the Great Depression. She said that as a chid, she never had something referred to as a toy. She and her seven siblings didn't have shoes in the summertime- no running water, or electricity. Her goal in life was to not be poor, and through education and work ethic had a decent life. This indeed, was a rich kid's toy.
@@rogerdale5451 My condolences, Roger. Be gentle on yourself.
@@rogerdale5451 My condolences for the loss of your mom. Remember her and do well for her always.
1:27 "Damned hook!" Ha!
Watching rust being sandblasted away so completely and perfectly is one of life's most satisfying experiences.
Really want to see you restore the carousel!!! 🎠 The sheep can go for a ride!!!
Золотых дел мастер, после Ваших видео хочется создать что-то прекрасное, хотя бы для себя, спасибо!!!
Congratulation chip Channel the Fábio and Rafael from Brazil. The best restauration the airplane.
So glad you protected the bed of the tow truck!
Me tooo
The beginning when he loaded it up on the little toy trailer was cute. I loved the little junkyard scene in the background
Ко всем вашим потрясающим талантам добавляется ещё тройка - выдумщик, юморист, мультипликатор!
Я в восхищении! 👍🔥👏
Mmm i was going to say where are all the sheep wadded up in a ball cloud shape in the sky. And cat approved. If wasn't for them two things and the quality of work you put in restoring these projects i wouldn't watch.
Triple like on the like button.
You are wonderfully meticulous. I thought that 'plans was too far gone even for you. You proved me wrong. Congratulations
I love your humor! When you threw that plane off the trailer I laughed hard. Every time I watch one of your exquisite restorations I regret all those rusty metal detector find toys I threw in the trash years ago.
I now know what has been missing in my life, a pile of rusty metal and a sandblaster.
You have no shortage of things to restore chip keep up the great work
A good job fixing and painting the plane it is now ready to take off again down the runway.
I don't know how you transform this piece of rust in airplane. Awesome work!!!!
These channels are the best asmr type stuff for me. I don't know if its the sound or working hands makes me feel at peace or that I know a little piece of history got valued and restored. Thanks for all the above.
"WHERE'S THE BEEF?" no, that's not right.... "WHERE'S THE SHEEP?"
You mean where's the mutten
Did Little Bo Peep reclaim her flock??
Whoa! That loading scene the rusty plane on the red truck was an awesome charming touch!
I'm in my 60's. This is something that my dad might have played with as a child.
I really don't know why you videos works like a antidepressant for me, every night I watch them all and be calm and literally 15 minutes later I'm fall sleepy well. Isn't a CZcams channel, it's magic!
A million touch and goes from the front porch! 👍👍
That flat bed truck is great. Wish I knew about that one when I was a kid.
I would love to see you restore that carousel truck next. However, I always enjoy your videos no matter what you’re restoring.
The pile of sadness in your intro though. 😵
Looks like you've got no shortage of future projects for your channel. 😅
I love your restorations! These old toys are beautiful and it warms my heart to see how much love and care you're giving each and every one of them in order to make them shine again.
Their time will come
I look at some of your toys in the background and I see my brothers childhood flash before me. Ty
Beautiful toy !!! And perfect work 👍🏻😉🙌
As usual your hands have worked their magic on yet another toy from the past, thank you sir
Your video is always amazing
For a small plane, it needed a lot of attention. OMG! Great job. It’s so colorful. I love it. Carol from California
Great restoration, but I'm happiest knowing there is ice cream in heaven.
Beautiful restoration! The sheep definitely should come back to help!!
It warms my heart to see all these toys so pristine. Probably all look better than when they were originally made! Outstanding!!!
I love how your restored toys come to pick up the next one you're going to refurbish at the beginning.
SOOOO KOOOOOLLLLL !!!!
Awesome work as always .
Can't not give this a big thumbs up!!!! Excellent work!
The before/after is really impressive
Just absolutely beautiful restoration. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍👍👍👍👍🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾
There are so many toys waiting for new life.
Thank you
I am a craftsman through and through but I am not a cinematographer by any means. I have to say that I greatly admire your ability to effectively execute your craft but also show the progress in a way that demonstrates to the audience what you’re doing. That is not something that I would’ve considered. I would have just restored the toy but I would not have done it very cinematically the way that you did great job keep up the good work my friend. 👏🏻👍🏻
The plane is like new again, the details in restoring and taking the video 👍
The sheep must be happy as Larry seeing them on cloud nine!!! Oh and the restoration.. outstanding. It was a pleasure to watch your skills in these excellent restorations
What fun ! Soooo many restoration projects like the way you picked up the plane !
That is a cool airplane. I was thinking that you might use a small cutoff wheel and then round over the end of the nail instead of just cutting it leaving possible sharp edges. Great restoration.
This was a toy I would look at and think there is no hope for, but you! You are a wonder at getting these things to look brand new! Excellent work!
sooooo zen, soooo satisfying, thank you. I collect many things vintage, including trains, planes, etc, I love when working on them to think of the history, the joy others have had with the item, what it has seen and hear (to anthropomorphize lol).
Another amazing restore, Chip! I was wondering where them little sheep were hiding out!
Very nice powder coating. Beautiful job !
Watching your little buddy munch on those treats and all but ignore those beautiful toys made this twice as entertaining!
the train looks an interesting project for you to do. great job on this as usual
Beautiful. Well done.💯💯💯
The kid in me hails you a hero 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Your restorations are beautiful and your videos have so much character. I’m a big fan of what you do!
The wall of projects has toy folks drooling!
Sitting here looking at one of those that was my father's when he was a kid. Great to finally know what it is!
Wasn't aware that this era of civilian aircraft had become valuable enough to devote the time to their restoration on this level. Just goes to show how times have changed. Thanks. Lovely piece.
It's incedible to see that the Wyandotte Airplane already took the wingtip design of the Boeing 777X ahead! ; )
I discovered your channel just recently and I find you to be a delight in your intellect your sense of humor and childlike innocence it is refreshing God bless
Always satisfied with the end result and the cat is the cherry on top
I remember when I subbed to this channel, it had less than 2000 suscribers and 3 or 4 videos, now there's more than 140000, I'm so proud of you Chip, keep this great job going.
Wow! Alrighty another amazing restoration! 😉👏
Lovely job....another one saved for history
I'm surprised the wings are still attached at all. Amazing.
Wish I hadn’t came across this channel. I’m hooked.
Perfect restoration. That thing will be like new when they find it in 1000 years.
Love the powder coating!
I remember many of the toys we had as kids. Did some work at my grandparents house in the side yard, found some vehicles that were buried twenty years prior.
Increíble !!!!
Quedó muy lindo 😍😍😍
Such a great job as always. Thank you.
Lovely sweet cat as always. Thank him. :)
Great restoration!
Beautiful restoration good job well done
good job men...your gift is just perfect in your hands🚜🏎🏍
I keep imagining what was being used to make the plane. It's one stamped metal piece and they had to have gone through stamps / forms to shape it bit by bit. A press here, another to create a fold, some more here .. and eventually presto a plane form. Amazing
I would love to see you do that black train in the pile! My kids love trains and would love to see that one.
great result!
6:47 wow those flashes were so bright it sent me into an add.
Turned metal wheels are an interesting choice. We’re the originals cast metal instead of the usual wood or hard rubber?
More than likely they were cast parts. Machining a wheel would be pretty expensive.
Excellent as always. Perfecto.
Looks like jet plane to me. Nice job on the prop anyway! Really nice job on the wheels! Thanks for sharing your restoration with us.
Another nice plane restoration I would have cut the nails closer and used a rivet tool and peaned them round look like the nail head
Yeah so that way you can use a special solution to remove the polish when you're ready to paint them a different color, something to match whatever outfit you're going to wear that night when you go out with your significant other!!!!
@@christophertmunro4503 LOL !
It really was junk and you brought it back to life. formidable job. greetings from Argentina.
It's amazing and toughtful that someone in this world would post some information on how to restore this toy.
The colors are cute and the children will be happy.
You can almost feel the envy of the others toys as the plane is carted away for restoration.
from "crashed and burned" to "soaring with the eagles"..thank you so much
I love you used the primary colours to finish it.
I really enjoyed this one. Thanks Sir
Glad you enjoyed it Dante Smith! Thanks for watching!
