My girlfriend and I met Jean Marie a few years ago and she had barely aged since Ark II. She could have easily fit back in the uniform. We talked with her for a while and she is a really sweetheart
...you're lucky...
Ark II, right after Mighty Isis.Saturday mornings. Sigh.
Tv in the 70s was pretty good for us kids
I've been watching Isis on CZcams and enjoying, i have always remember the opening for the show.
I had such a crush on Isis.
Shazam!/ISIS hour. Before that was The Tarzan/Batman Adventure Hour. After Shazam!/ISIS Hour was Space Academy with Johnathan Harris. Bet none of you know that Les Tremayne(1953 War of the Worlds-General Mann/ Monolith Monsters)was Billy Batson's mentor?
@@musicman201047, I remember those Saturday mornings. I don’t think it got any better than that! Kids now missing out on Saturday morning cartoons and live action kid shows is a shame. That was good quality entertainment. Somewhat intelligent, too.
I lost count of how many egg carts I turned into Ark II when I was a kid
Ah, Ark II, Shazam, Isis, Space Academy and Jason of Star Command. All adventure shows for kids in live action back in the 70s. Jean Marie Han was one of first crushes as a boy.
All were fun for me as a kid. All this plus Hilarious House of Frightenstein (a local show) along with the prime time stuff in repeat like Lost In Space, Land of The Giants, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Thanks for bringing these memories for me! 👍🎉
It always amazes me how many shows from my childhood actually weren't around that long, and yet I remember them so vividly decades later. Also interesting that this, Space 1999, and Star Trek TMP had such similar ideas for the uniforms
I must confess one of the things I loved about the original Johnny Quest was there was no weekly "moral of the story". Just Race Bannon kicking ass, taking names, an obviously banging spy babes in one episode.
Ever watch "Jason of Star Command"? It actually had 2 seasons!
Yeah, whatever happened to W.1.K.1.?
How could anyone confuse the Ark II for the LandMaster? Both are cool, but I prefer the LandMaster, personally.
The ultimate RVs. 😅
I was 12 years old when this show debuted in 1976. To be a kid back then and see the shows that I did was something this generation will never know.
Absolutely loved those Saturday mornings shows back then! Ark II was definitely one of my favorites. I always wished a toy or model kit of the Ark would have come out but sadly, nothing ever did.
Domination Alley was a cool movie! A video about that cool film would be a good idea!
Definitely :-)
@@MoviesMusicMonsters but thats a topic of another video
I remember seeing the Ark on the road in SoCal as a very young child. It was before the show started broadcast so we weren't sure what it was.
Cool I remember this show, I will have to find the DVD set now
As a young teen, Ruth caught my attention.
*Oh* yeah!
One of my favourite programs as a kid living in New Zealand.
I also remember going to the movies to watch the NZ film Battletruck..
Thank you for the history.
✌️❤️🇳🇿
I miss "Starlog" magazine where you could read about all the cool SyFy shows and movies!
I was twelve years old at the time. The perfect age for this type of content and I loved it. It didn’t hurt I had a crush on Ruth like so many others.
Word!!☝️💯‼️
I was also 12 and had the hots for her too!
Clearly, Ark-ii and Damnation Ally's Landmaster were different vehicles, as you said.
But a video on the Landmaster would be grear.
How cool would that be?
Jean was one little hottie.... the reason I watched the show LOL
I enjoyed the show as a youngster. When the DVD box set came out, I bought it and it is on the shelf behind me along with my collection of other favorite shows and movies..
I love the fact that Dan devotes time to creating content on little known shows such as this. No one else on youtube is doing this.
Hello, Dan! Great channel! I've noticed over several videos you ocassionally refer to museums where movie and TV artifacts can be found for public viewing today. That in itself would be a great video. "Where can we find for public viewing props, costumes, etc. from great shows like Battlestar Galactica (78), Lost in Space, etc.?" Thanks for considering. -Mike
Hey mike, you know what? That would be awesome. I will definitely look into doing an episode on that :-)
Ark II, Space Academy and Jason Of Star Command should be rebooted, but not today. Maybe in another couple of decades when the 'stupid' trend that's ruining all the great IPs has run its course.
I immediately recognized the Ark II vehicle as the reused 'Seeker' from 'Space Academy'.
I have a clear memory of seeing the Damnation Alley Landmaster next to the freeway on a family trip through Los Angeles once when I was a kid. Apparently it was parked next to the auto shop that built it for many years.
the Saturday morning cuties from the '70s man i miss that!
I agree. I miss it all.
The Bugaloos. Joy. That Costume. Nuff said.
The jet pack actually.flew . How cool is that
". . . every episode began and ended with a numbered entry into the Ark II's log by Commander Jonah, which more often than not contained the weekly moral that the kids learned while watching that particular show. Wow, morals and kid's television, certainly something you're not going to see in 2024." And this, my friends, is why the world is a desolate place in the 25th century.
Or parents.
The Brubaker Box was also in Soylent Green. I like the Ark II version better with the cut-out top, as the single sliding door on the regular version is kind of difficult to get in.
Good kiddie shows. The vehicle was parked at a business off the 405 Fwy for years. Saw it on the fwy one.
You have to make a video about the Landmaster from Damnation Ally! It's still the coolest vehicle ever designed and built for a movie or tv show!
Definitely inspired me to draw many Ark 2 type vehicles as a kid.
I loved Ark II as a kid. It was one of those shows that if even the opening wa missed I'd be deflated for the most if not all the Morning/afternoon. It had everything: a kid to project into, a cool lead guy to project my future self into, someone to crush on and a talking chimp. It espescially helped growing up in the South West and getting to see the land out my window reflected in their adventures. But we just couldn't where they toys were. Where was Remco's utility belt version of this show? Where were the action figures and coloring books? Was there even a comic series? (Charlton, maybe?). Great video, great details I never knew.
I really need to watch the Ark 2 tv series.
Movies, Music & Monsters drinking game. Every time Dan says, "how cool would that be" or "how cool is that', you take a drink.
The Ark & the machine from Damnation Alley make me think of the Mammoth car from Speed Racer, too.
Sure liked Jean Marie Hon.
Hey Dan, just stumbled onto your vidoes. Love the sci-fi history. Keep up the great work.
Hey jeff, thank you so much :-) much appreciated.
59 year old fan here, thanks for doing this coverage Dan
From one Dan to another, keep the great content coming 👏 👍
Man I loved this show. that jetpack was tops
Old SciFi geek and gearhead here, and I just found your channel. I forgot all about this series! Thanks for the refresh!
So enjoying these mini-docs. I'm really impressed by the depth of information you're able to find.
Really loving the opening and ending animations. Nice job Bill Hughes! Very COOL is that.
WOW! I didn't know that the Roamer still existed and is being restored! I'm betting Pat Hill would love to be in touch with the fellow who owns it!
As an aside, I used to LOVE the animated Star Trek series!
I haven't seen that show since 76-78! Thanks for reminding me of this show!!
Dan, thank you soooo much for posting that wonderful pic of Jean Marie Hahn at 2:52!
Stunning. My kind of woman.
I love the fact that you actually got to talk about the use of Star Trek sound effects, despite not seeing the show, I’m very well aware of filmation’s sound effects.
They kept using I assume copies made of the Star Trek library up until the late 80s, and they most likely gave copies to other studios like Marvel productions and so on
We kids in the neighborhood really loved Ark II.
Hi Dan.......as you probably know, anyone can talk about the stuff you discuss on your channel, however, it's the presentation and articulation that makes the difference. and yours is excellent. I was 14 when the show premiered and although I loved it, I was confused by the fact that there was no bathroom/shower or sleeping quarters aboard the ARK. Had they not had to garage the ROAMER, perhaps those thing would have fit. Take care.
Thank you Dan! I used to draw the Arc and Roamer. Loved the show.
I appreciate how you tell the story of the shows and movies that made me and so many people who we are, with the dignity and respect they deserve. THANKS
I remember watching this show every Saturday and I enjoyed watching each episode.❤
Thanks for the memories. I had forgotten about this show. You know the coolest people. and make the coolest videos
Shazam, Issis, Space Academy and Jason of Star Command. Those were my memories of that filmation era.
This channel makes CZcams fun again.
One unanswered question I have about Saturday morning TV shows: Why were 95% of all shows just one season long? In that TV era to be profitable in syndication typically 3-5 seasons of a prime series was required. There were exceptions, such as The Outer Limits which was only two seasons long. And I seem to remember that for the Outer Limits, they only package the very best episodes for syndication, which was less than half of the total episodes.
Interesting you mentioned the vehicle from Damnation Alley.
When I was a teenager, I used to see that vehicle in a yard off the Hollywood freeway which also had an original Viper from Battlestar Galactica.
The Land Master was designer/builder Dean Jeffries Studio. Dean Jeffries also built the vehicles used in the Logan's Run TV series as well as the original Monkee Mobile.
Your shows just get better every episode! Thoroughly enjoying them. Thank you!
When I was a kid in the back of my parent's car, we drove past the Ark2 siting in a big truck parking lot. The Ark was still there in the 90's, part of it.
Did all of Hollywood borrow the Bell jet-pack from Disneyland at one point or another? ;-P
Yes! And the Pilot/Occupant ALWAYS had to wear a helmet; even James Bond!
I wait for your "how cool is that" comment section. It always cracks me up. Thanks.
Absolutely love this channel. Makes being a “geek” a cool thing.
Hey, thank you so much :-) much appreciated
I remember this show as a toddler, my mother would put both my sister and I in front of the television in 1976 to watch this on Saturday mornings.
I also remember Jason of Star command..and Space Academy..
Another great video 💯💙👍
Time stamped 5:50am(4-14-24)
I loved this show. The vehicles were awesome and I had a crush on Jan Marie Han.
Ahh many of us recall the Landmaster at that sorta gas station in Burbank. My brother picking me up from the airport, we would drive by it and every time we would promise we must stop and check it out. Never did. Thanks for Ark II story. That was a good pick.
Not only did it resemble the Landmaster from Damnation Alley, but it was also very similar to the 70's TV series Supertrain.
I liked "Ark II" "Space Academy" and "Jason of Star Command."
Great video, Dan. I recall watching this, “Space Academy” and “Jason of Star Command” around the same era. This series always seemed like a kinder, gentler version of Roger Zelazny’s 1969 novel, “Damnation Alley”.
I'm currently working my way through this series, so this episode is very timely for me! I remember loving it as a kid, and am quite enjoying it as an adult.
OMFG Jean Marie Hon!! I mean, yeah, the show was pretty fun. But Jean Marie Hon!! How could anyone cancel something with her in it?!? Thanks, Dan!! Looking forward to the next one! :D
I was too young to notice at the time, but today she definitely caught my attention!
Sssssmokin' !
Did anyone else fall in love with Electra Woman an Dyna girl!
You don't know how glad I get to say,Yet another fine episode! Thanks Dan and the staff.
You're going have a video on "Jason of Star Command", too? As a kid I always found it really amusing that in the saga sell to "Jason", the narrator informed us kids that Jason worked out of "a secret section of Space Academy", to justify the reuse of the Space Academy model and the Seekers.
Hands down, the coolest wheeled sci-fi vehicle ever created.
I was 11 years old at the time, and this was my favorite Saturday morning show.
I still want that toy.....I loved my 70's GIJOE 12 inch vehicle that looked like that, I used every size figure for that vehicle and had fun.....just said this was the land of the giants universe ;)
I remember watching this show on Saturday mornings as a kid. My favorite part was the vehicles and Robby the Robot. Thanks for doing the research and sharing all of this interesting history. have a great week.
-David
I would love to see you do an episode on The Fantastic Journey. This is another 1970’s sci-fi/ adventure show that only ran one season.
All of the jet pack shots were done in one day, it was flown by a teenager. a copy of the jet pack was built as a prop, which is why you never see Terry Lester actually flying it; every take off or landing is achieved with a cut. You look carefully you will see minor differences in the prop and the actual jet pack (Bell Jet Belt, which is powered by steam generated by running pure hydrogen peroxide through a silver catalyst with pressurized nitrogen.)
You have fast become a highlight of my You Tubing, asking questions I never realised I needed answering. The new opening animations are wonderful.
Do you have a t-shirt with HOW COOL 😎 IS THAT?
Thanks for remembering "children's" shows! I thought Filmation did a great job considering their budget and target audience. As a kid in the 70's who craved everything Sci-Fi, their shows were exciting. Now they are nostalgic! Look forward to your episodes on Space Academy and even Jason of Star Command!
Went to elementary school with the step son of inventor Nelson Tyler. Got to go to his warehouse where I got to see the Jet Jumper. It was all tucked into a vault. I miss those days 😮😢
As a kid I thought the Ark was pretty cool. If I ever had an RV, I'd like it to look like that (or the landmaster).
It was probably my second favourite aspect of the show. Being 12, my favourite aspect was... Jean Marie Hon. OMG I was so in love with her. I wished I could be the Samuel character just to be near her.
I like the new intro and outro
Waiting for the Space Academy episode! That was one cool looking asteroid base! :P
Ark II was one of my childhood favorites. You’re on a roll! And, it was right around the time that customized vans were really popular. I wanted Ark II…lol
Paramount Ranch (managed by the National Park Service) and Malibu Creek State Park are two seperate places and not far from each other. I've visited both years ago when I lived just 25 miles away.
Bloody Hell! Robbie the Robot has had as many cameos as Stan Lee
I loved Ark II on Saturday Mornings...This was fantastic! I would like to know What happened to the Valley Forge and drones from "Silent Running"?
My favorite show back in the day
Another entertaining and educational episode, Dan. I was in the navy in 1976 (joined when I was 17 in 1975) and was in New York for the bicentennial celebration representing Canada. I was therefore too mature to watch kid’s shows and…. Who am I kidding, I was still a sucker for anything Sci-Fi related. I’m sure you will crack 100 thousand subs soon, and your content deserves to be seen and appreciated by everyone. Keep them coming.
I would like to hear about Genesis 2, Island City and Into The Fold aka Star Command
As well as Jason of Star Command
I had the biggest crush on Miss Han, wish I had seen more of her .
me too. super cute.
I loved this show for the cool vehicles they had. The plots not so much, but as a kid I was not paying that much attention. Great video!
You are literally reading my mind and covering the stuff I love.
Thank you for doing this one! ARK II was such a big influence on my 11 year old imagination! Each Saturday afternoon I would go out to play Jonah and pretend my bicycle was a "roamer". I loved the concept of the show and the great memories of that time!
How cool was that !!!. Thanks for the memories dan .cheers from aus
I was so lucky to be born in 1955. From Buck Roger to Star Trek to Star Wars and everything in between (and beyond)! I was so lucky to see sooooooooooo many great shows. If i tried to list them here i would be listing them from here to my 75th birthday 8 years from now. THANKS SO MUCH DAN!
