Man, simply put, thank you!
This video and description gave me everything I needed to get the correct components to install a new head unit in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler. Additionally you provided all the info needed for the adapters and kits to complete the install.... R.O.C.K.S.T.A.R! Clear, concise, & to the 👉! THANK YOU 🙏
Dude. THANK YOU. I went through dozens of videos before this one where I swear the person was TRYING to confuse me. Haha. This was so clear and shot perfectly. (Borat voice) VERY EXCITE!
I was a professional installer back in the day. You do quality work.
If youre having an issue where you can see into the dash from the bottom of the radio you can trim 1/8th inch off in the inside top and bottom lip of the kit that touches the front sides of the radio. Helps a ton on the radios that don't have a motorized screen as they sit much further out.
I'm glad you posted this video. Basic techniques that can never be talked about enough. With the internet and everything today, you think you would pull a radio out of a car and it would look normal LOL. Nope. Even with all this knowledge right there in front of people we still fine cluster bombs behind the dash!
By the way, I love your new backdrop and display. It's awesome that you spent the time to do that. Image does matter plus it shows off your passion.
Happy New Year Mark and I'm so looking forward to 2018!
Mark that was a great video!!! You did a fantastic job at explaining everything point by point from start to finish!!! Great job!!! 👍👍👍
+Jose Garcia thank you!😄
You can never go wrong with Pioneer!
Thanks for this video. I was having a short in my radio. Sometimes it would play and sometimes not. I used your video to help me get my radio out. Thanks a lot you saved me money by watching and using your video.
This post helped immensely. The only thing I ran into that was a problem was the CH1 has a control cable that is jeep wrangler specific. I didn't see that. Once I hooked it up everything worked great. The other small issue was the metal support piece that is surrounding the stock head unit. That needs to go for the new double din to fit. Otherwise you covered everything!
Can you explain to me what cable this is? I have done the entire wiring harness and didn’t want to maestro because I don’t care about steering wheel controls so can I use it without that?
Excellent dude. I'm about to do up my Jeep. Just need a new head unit that I'm about to order and then I'm putting it all together. I'll send you some pics via instagram when done. So excited to get all this stuff done!
Vinny Gullotta hi I trying to do in my Jeep to it’s no hard?
Great video. Installing a new head unit in my jeep this morning. This saved me some time and head aches :)

Hey Mark, thanks for this video! I have a Jeep JK and will follow this for my own install. One question: Could you say more about how you wired in the remote wire to the amps? I see the thicker blue wire connected to the harness, but you don’t mention the process in the tutorial. Would love to see how you connect the remote wire to the deck and then to the amp(s). Thanks!
That looks awesome! Have you done or will you be doing a video over separating highs, mids, and lows using aftermarket amps?
Great job on this video. You really simplified a overwhelming process.
Thank Mark for a great video. I installed a pioneer unit on my JK last year .everything works great however, every now and then i hear a loud pop in the sub woofer with a sudden loss of sound for 1 second then everything goes back to normal.. cant figure our why..
Insightful Bro! Thanks! I'll feel more apt to do some of this on my own now.
great video with detailed information. gives me confidence for my install
Nice clean work and some good tips!
Great video! I followed it to install a Pioneer avh-1500nex. I am wondering how to secure the random crap holding tray using the screw if we remove the stock radio metal bracket. I have a phone holder that uses the screw in the tray.
Great video! Can you explain what the Metra AX-USB-MINIB USB to MINI B Adaptor Cable is needed for?
Great video. I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler (no factory AMP) and replacing radio with a Pioneer AVH-2330NEX using a Maestro harness. I get everything to work except no sound from speakers. Can't figure it out. Any ideas? Thanks
Glad I found this! Is there anything that can be done with upgrading the subwoofer and sound on the JK but with the OEM location (side panel in the trunk, not the newer ones in the trunk floor)?
Great video and super clean install. I'm sure Mrs. CAF will love it.
How about odb harness? Do you keep plug in or not?
Great video. So you have to plug it into your OBD socket all the time?
I have that same setup and I got a lot of noise/EMI when I used the OEM usb port in the center console. I'm curious to see if you have the same result. I was also pretty disappointed the Maestro adapter couldn't give me the reverse signal for a manual transmission. All of the lights in the vehicle are on the canbus. So I'm not sure why they didn't just identify which address and value was for reverse lights and build that into the firmware you load.
Very nice video Mark!
Best Regards from Poland!☺
Hey Mark do you have an install video for a 2012 challenger i would like to know how to make the radio flush with the dash vs having it sticking in
Thank you for the informative vid. But what is better datalink, your recommendation, (Maestro RR) or the less expensive AXXESS AX-ADCH100 Interfaces with their cabling?? just wondering
Thanks for the help in tips on aftermarket car audio upgrade. I just installed all new kicker audio and new head unit. Weird question but, after installing new speakers and amp. I noticed some engine noise. Do I need to upgrade my alternator or could it be a ground issue?
Great video! Perfect level of detail
Great job Mark! Happy New Year!
You are a damn master installer. Wish you were close to me so I could have you do the installs. Uber pro bro.
Could you touch on the USB adapter you installed right after taking the uconnect module out?? As in where to connect it to the back of the radio or wherever it goes? Thanks
This has been very helpful!!! Thank you!!!
Tell me you fixed the gap on the sides of the radio. Pioneer did the last few years of touchscreen radios very thin. We trim the corners on the kit to side the brackets just little further back and it hides the gaps a little better.
If a jeep has a factory sub, does that mean it's factory amplified? If so, does that interface keep you from having to do a amplifier bypass?
Mark
What is the best ground wire connection position to avoid noise?
STD wire harness?
Straight from battery?
Same point as amplifiers?
Dedicated position near dashboard?
I hope you still have eyes on this video but needed some help troubleshooting an install I did of this same radio to my 2016 JK...UConnect is being difficult
all the best of 2018 Mark
@CarAudioFabrification can you do this without a uconnect box? if so what must be added?
I just connected my new radio using the harness with everything you had. I have a simple double din but my steering wheel controls aren’t working. It has a plug in for it in the back (like a aux port) but the other wire I’m not sure what to do with it do I have to have both connected?
What are the benefits of disconnecting the Uconnect vs leaving the Uconnect connected? I saw where you wanted it disconnected.
Hello, I am planning on installing an Atoto A6 in my JKU. I was thinking about putting the GPS antenna in front of the accessory tray in that little spot between the tray and the windshield (between the 2 defroster vents. I was also thinking about running the WiFi antenna up along the A pillar and maybe installing it in the headliner or the passenger side pillar. Thoughts? Thank you!
I was researching this last night for my 07 Silverado classic. It looks like I need two different modules one to retain the door and warning chime and another to retain the steering wheel controls. Unfortunately the head unit from my old pickup isn't steering wheel control compatible so I need a new head unit. Actually would you be able to reccomend a decent single din head unit? I don't need all the bells and whistles I'm looking for one I can connect my android phone to.
Serious question: if you have no desire to use Uconnect (I removed it as a feature when loading the Maestro firmware), do you need to put the box back into the console? Also, thanks for showing that trick to run the cable to that adapter so you can use the USB connection inside your armrest box! Finally, do you know of anyone who has a video on modifying the metal bracket you took out? It's a pretty handy piece that I think is needed, especially to stabilize the top of the dash, and to allow me to put a mount back in place.
would the process be the same for a 2014 dodge challenger, they have the same uconnect system
Great video! What year is your Jeep? I am curious...does your steering wheel control work with Siri for your Apple Carplay? Also, if you do not have the extra amp does the new system still require the RCA out cables for the speaker system? Thanks for your help!
This is old. I just updated my 2016 Jeep with an android v12 . It was truly plug-and-play and extremely easy and more professional looking. A lot has changed in 5 years
@@dan-777-abc it’s not old, android radios are plug and play, pioneer radios aren’t plug and play
Which is the old way . Great Android Head units are relatively easy to do for a DIY, Very cost effective, and have a very good screen for viewing. That’s the modern way
I know how you feel about Chinese Android headunits and I want to see a video about the ATOTO S8 Premium (flagship). It's got a *good* dsp and some really great features, you should make a video about it.
In the beginning I was like... YEAH I GOT THIS.... 1 min in i was like nah... going to pay someone to do it! lol Same Jeep tho.. so maybe ill give it a shot. stay tuned for my foul ups lol
I have watched this video 10 times and have ordered the parts that you recommend. Two questions- Our Wrangler has a time left on the free trial from Sirius XM- do I need a separate part to utilize satellite or just the satellite antenna adapter? Also- I know the radio you installed has backup camera capability. Do I need a different set up in order to install camera? Thank you in advance, I am a novice, but pretty handy and willing to learn and try.
In a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited Sport, what wiring harness can I use?
Hey Mark did you install the Bluetooth microphone that comes with the pioneer headunit? I’m going to be installing a Kenwood DMX 7704s in my 2013 silverado using an idatalink maestro but I’m not sure if the factory Bluetooth mic will work or do i have to use what came with the new headunit.
I'm getting a 2440NEX with maestro in my jeep and wanted to keep uconnect. Can I still use my factory usb port to use android auto? What are the reasons I would get rid of uconnect?
I have a 2008 wrangler mostly base model. Do I need the maestro brain unit if I don’t have Uconnect or the steering wheel buttons?
Do you know how install CarPlay in Jeep Cherokee latitude plus 2018?
I am viewing this in 2020 & you made the video in 2017 so I hope you are still answering questions.
I have a 2011 wrangler with stock unit. I would like to know what will I gain or lose if I decide to keep the uconnect still connected if I use the maestro? In addition is it also true if I keep unconnected in will I not be able to put in a Destiination within CarPlay while the car is moving?
Rock star install! Great job
Do I need that model for the steering wheel controls to work?
I need to replace my pos factory navigation. I want one that can do screen mirroring.
did you reinstall the uconnect? I just left mine out when I installed my new radio. just wondering if I should have reinstalled it with just leaving the one usb unconnected
Need a video like this for 1999-2004 WJs
Awesome video. Thank you very much.
please ...i need help...i installed this harness but i do not want to retain u connect on my jeep i hate UCONNECT!! but do i still need th RR to power the accessory wire ??? how can i connect the accessory turn on wire ??? please and thank you ...danni from california
Great info!! I do have two problems with my radio though… 1 out of 4 times, the unit starts with no sound!!! And the harness I found only sends 2 channels of sound so L+R are hooked up on Rear and front at the same time!! Any advice!?
Great video and Thanks!! I do have 2 questions hopefully you can answer. 1) I have a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX going into a 2014 JKU, should I be able to use the factory mic? I plan on removing the UConnect if that maters at all. 2) I bought the USB adaptor from your link, was it long enough on it's own for you?
Hello Mark,
Just came across your video regarding this install. Great presentation! May I ask, My 2018 JK did not come with a SW. Where would I install it to get the best results w/out casing distortion and do I need an amp to do so? m not looking for a lot power, just great sound. Regards)
Amazing detail thank you so much this was the first install I had professionally done and they did a horrible job all the wires came undone do to just using electrical tape. My front right is my front left and back left and front left is front and back right when I asked them why they did it this way they explained that it’s normal. Any insight on that?
Your "professional" was a hack.
I have tried to install the same 1330 nex with the maestro in a 2013 wrangler Sahara Unlimited, but I am not getting any sound. Any ideas? Also do you have any suggestions for what I need to purchase to get factory satellite radio to work with the 1330. I have purchased the sat1 and nav2 pigtails. No place to plug them in.
Do you know if I am able to hook up a backup camera to this? If I were to do the same exact as you do?
What is a good source for that closed cell foam wrap? Having trouble with Google search term.
Hello, I am torn between a new stereo with car play and built in GPS. I also have a Wrangler and worry about losing connection while in the woods. What are your thoughts pros and cons
Did you need any additional connections to use existing USB connection in the jeep?
Hi! What about if i dont use that wiring harness? Is it necessary anyways or only if i wanna keep the steering wheel controls? Thank you
What do you think is the best subwoofer for around $125?
Will I need an additional harness to support a rear view camera?
Mark - great video, thanks. Question - I have a 2018 jeep wrangler JK Sahara - factory radio - I do NOT have uconnent. I want to replace the radio and add bluetooth and hands free calling. Besides buying a new radio, do I follow this radio to accomplish my goal?
Thanks
I'm having trouble installing a after market radio in my dodge charger you think you could help me
Do I need those modules if the Pioneer radio itself has the hand free phone and all that?
Hello, in the jeep audio harness there are two wires by the yellow one, one is white/grey and the other white/red. Do you know what are those for?
Can you link where to get the closed cell foam from?
Does it work for android, i dont like using apple or ios to be more specific, but i do like this setup and it looks nice I'll definitely consider it
I'm looking to get a aftermarket touch screen radio with Android Auto and Apple Play. I don't have any steering wheel controls what are the other option.
How can you add a dps to the factory set of car without add speakers amps or anything just the dsp make a video please 😊👍🏻
How does the process differ if you have the 9 speaker Alpine factory system?
Super super beginner. The harness purchased separately has an adapter where on your video the wires are exposed and ready to solder. Can I just cut the plug off and splice wires together as shown?
Nice work!
Great video- did you keep the factory blue tooth microphone or did you switch out the mic that came with the new HU?
Chris Fasouletos did you end up keeping the factory Bluetooth?
What if your jk doesnt have bluetooth and you dont care out satellite radio? Do you need the mistro?
i have a question about the wiring harness. my jeep doesn't have factory bluetooth, navigation, or u connect, would i be able to use just the CH-1 harness and abandon the steering wheel controls, or is the Datalink necessary?
Hey if I do this to my Jeep Compass 2017 will I lose my reverse camera visibility?
would this work fora jeep with the infinity system in it????
i want to do it with the maestro to program out my uconnect button
My question was is I put a jvc in my 2012 jeep Jk but I didn’t buy anything for the uconnect cause I didn’t care about the steering wheel controls, but I was wondering does the new radio use its own amp or does it actually use the oem amp that’s under the steering column
Curious to know if trimming that L shape support is really necessary for aftermarket install
I have the powertek acoustic stereo in my 01 Cherokee and I was wondering if I would be able to transfer it over to my 2012 wrangler ? Currently there is some off brand Japanese radio in there called nakamichi and I don't like that it does NOT have the android auto functions, due to the app that the current radio wants me to download that doesn't even work.
I know this is kind of an old video, but where did you ground your stereo to? I have a Alpine ILX-W650 with two older Alpine V12 amps, one 5 Ch and one 2 ch for a sub. Can’t seem to get rid of “alternator noise” through amplifier grounding so I’ll try stereo grounding next. After that I’ll try 0 gauge grounding straps in the engine bay and see if that helps.
should the Pioneer VH-W4500NEX work in a 2015 JKU. I am thinking it is the same Double Din opening.
I bought everything and installed my radio today and found out the 1500nex isn’t supported by the rr only the 1550nex so I can’t flash it nor use it. Can I still use my radio and just lose some features?
