  • So the other day my water pump sprung a leak, I took it to an auto shop and they quoted the job at $800. I looked up the price of the water pump on amazon and it was only about $200. I decided to give it a go and do the job myself, after a bunch of hours I was successful in my endeavors.

    First off SUPERB JOB BROTHER on changing out the pump!!!! secondly, hey what year is your car..i have the exact same one with exact same rims and ls2 6.0 engine blk/blk ...BUT you have paddle shifters? i dont have paddle shifters...i do have a Touring and Sport switch on/near my Auto shifter..

      SGT TECH, Greetingz and thanks for checkin out the video, she is an 06 with the Z51 package, which doesnt have the selective ride control like you have. how has that system worked out for you? I have heard mixed reviews on the reliability of that setup

    • @uliperezsatx
      @uliperezsatx Před 6 lety

      OK, yea makes sense now i have an 05 and yes some ppl don't like that selective ride control BUT I DO my steering stiffens more makes it more aggressive and ride as well and i switch off the stability control and let her do the rest. don't see why ppl would not like this if it helps the performance all around. it helps with every aspect when wanting to go fast..

    Did you experience any over heating after you completed your work due to any air bubbles in your coolant system?

    • @DrewMann
      @DrewMann  Před 6 lety +1

      Nope, no issues at all, I made sure to run the heater and top off the coolant to make sure all the air worked itself out. A much cheaper option then having the dealer do it, but the gaskets can be a bit of fun. Best wishes

    How did you narrow it down to a water pump failure mine started having a low coolant light come on me twice last week and I had to add coolant twice but I havent noticed a leak or spot under the car

    • @DrewMann
      @DrewMann  Před 6 lety

      Marcus Buck , a fellow I worked with at the time was a real car expert, he he advised that the most likely issue was the waterpump after taking a look at it, Im not sure if he was able to get a visual on the actual leak or if his advice was based on his experience, either way the leak is gone so I guess he was right. I only wish I would have ordered new hoses as well while I was at it

    Hi, i have changed the water pump and filled it to the brim but when we started the car and put on hot the coolant temperature stayed high. It didnt go down. Do you know why? And could there be something we missed while we put it back?

    • @DrewMann
      @DrewMann  Před 5 lety

      Did you also replace the thermostat? If not perhaps the old one is stuck closed. Another possibility is that the hoses might be gunked up and restricting coolant flow. If you did replace the thermostat, is the replacement the right one? It's my understanding that not all thermostats have the same opening temperature. Those are just a few things I can think of, but I'm just a DIY mechanic. Best of luck!

    What size torque wrench do you use, 1/2, 3/8, or 1/4???

    • @DrewMann
      @DrewMann  Před 3 lety +1

      I think I've currently got a 3/8th and a 1/2 for larger stuff, kind of cheaper ones too, might try and upgrade eventually to something more reputable

    Excellent video. Thank you. I have an 05 c6. Do you happen to remember exactly which pump you bought on amazon? Their are a few listed for some odd reason and they all look different but say they will all fit my 05...? TIA

      Pretty sure it was this one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JZZ8EO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      at least this is the one in my order history, I dont think they would have changed the listing. Best wishes, and good luck with your project :)

    How many miles on that C6.? Mines got 40k and never had a issue, yet

    • @DrewMann
      @DrewMann  Před 3 lety

      124100 miles or there about, had a few issues along they way, had a power steering leak that was tricky to get fixed, ended up replacing the rack and pinion twice but it seems to be resolved now. Ive replaced the headlight lenses as they get foggy with age and sun exposure, the cheap replacement lenses dont last very long out here in Vegas if the car is parked outside. Had the fuel sending unit stop working a few years back but got that replaced, and replaced the fuel pump while in was in there. All in all an interesting vehicle to maintain, especially as I do all my own work. Shes still looking good after all these years, Ill be posting up a new video sometime this week showing off her new shoes

      @@DrewMann No shit! Mines a 2005 Z51 and its been bullet proof. I only have 40k on mine. I drive it hard too!! Just did battery,brakes, tires. Now the the Windshield wash pump. All basic stuff, its been a great car. Fast as hell, fun to drive, turns heads. Best of all its paid off!!! Enjoy bud!

    • @DrewMann
      @DrewMann  Před 3 lety +1

      @@jarin12ga I can dig it, when I got mine it had close to 70k hard miles on it, I'm assuming that played a role in why Ive had so many little issues, however, I proactively replace lots parts well before they fail, and others just to keep her looking nice
