George Hendrick made the last out. Six years later, Mario Soto was one strike away from a no hitter and again George Hendrick was the potential last batter. He smashed a home run. Reds won 2-1; Soto got the win on a one hitter.

Seaver said on MLB Network in 2010 that he actually said to Ted Simmons on the on-deck circle, “I don’t want to face you.” Simmons and Seaver were friends and Simmons had great success against Seaver.

Seaver told Bob Costas in an MLB Network interview to watch his eyes during that moment. Because Seaver was actually gesturing towards Ted Simmons and reportedly said “I don’t want to face you.”
