Love JB. Was there on JB night in 1983 when he hit the homerun on the Astros. My sister was dying of leukemia and JB sent a picture, letter, and called her in the hospital about 2 weeks before she passed. Made her day. Thank you Johnny.
What a great man Johnny is. And what a life! He's seen and done it all. A finer gentleman and human being you can't find.
The best interviewee in baseball history. Mr. Bench was the best ever.
Johnny was my role model as a young catcher late 60s early 70s..it was a fans dream to watch those great teams of the 70s..my team the big red machine!!
We were so blessed to grow up with JB and the rest of the Reds. I was all of 16 when they beat Boston.
I had just turned 5, but I grew up in Southern Ohio. We went to so many Reds games.
Love to hear Johnny at 3:44 saying Elrod Hendricks was a favorite, I was always rooting for Ellie since my first season following my Santurce Cangrejeros 🇵🇷 and as an Orioles fan. ⚾
great interview
I saw plenty of Bench...Brook's vacuum cleaner in 1970, losing the mustache gang in '72, edging the Red Sox and "El Tiante" in '75 and spanking the Yankees in '76. The discussion of who was better Fisk, Muncie or Bench.....Great baseball.
Russo saying at 9:35 that Seaver and Bench former the best battery he ever saw reminded me that they won consecutive Rookie Of The Year awards, Seaver in 67' and Bench in '68.
"If you had to choose one great player at any position, Johnny Bench is the greatest catcher there is or ever will be." Sparky Anderson
what about Yogi?
only one close might be Piazza but Bench is light years ahead defensively
Loved the 1970 Orioles. 4 20 game winner's.
1971 Orioles had the four 20 game winners [Palmer, McNally, Dobson, and Cuellar]
Enjoyed the interview, saw big red machine in ATL win 3 of 4 in those days.
It always seemed so weird that the Braves and Reds were in the NL West, but when they did the realignment it's never felt the same.
At 3:05 Johnny was a little confused, the Orioles didn't have Pat Dobson in 1970, he arrived the following year.
❤🔥🔥
My favorite catcher didn't see Dickey, Berra Campanella, but watch Bench at 19 yrs of age can hold 6 or 7:baseballs in his hand 🧐
WHY IS THIS GUY NOT NAMED JOHNNY YELLING THE WHOLE TIME?!!?
WHAT?
I agree. Imagine being in a restaurant and this guy is sitting at the next table.
That's exactly what I was thinking. In the radio business a puker is a dude who does a phony voice. It used to be instyle but now it is really passe.
Johnny could have been a great coach
6:45 what are you talkin' 'bout? there's TWO jp's. jordan peterson and jp sears. johnny bench ain't even one of 'em!
Johnny I'm a huge fan but there is no curvature of the Earth.
That's not exactly what Seaver said to Bench. "What?" "Get out of here A--hole" is more like it.
dear God Russo is awful, just continues to yell without thinking
