  • Without Nicole Mericle on the course who will keep up with Lindsay Webster as she looks to continue her US National Series dominance.
    A competitive field including Rose Wetzel, Rea Kolbl, Alex Walker and Kaci Monroe make this a must watch.

    Finally, the races and coverage are back! This may be a personal preference, but I enjoyed the 2019 coverage with the commentators giving updates and additional info on the athletes throughout the race. I also prefer the simultaneous coverage of the men's & women's race at the same time. Thanks for at least having some coverage. These elite athletes are amazing and super motivational.

    Someone made this comment on the men's coverage video, but will Spartan be providing the longer, less cut versions of the races? I so enjoyed watching the 2019 series where the videos were 2+ hours. They serve the dual purpose of seeing the athletes on most of the obstacles to learn other techniques and as motivation leading up to the races I'll be running myself.

      Agreed. I too enjoyed seeing the races in their entirety.

    Good coverage. Constructive criticism would be to highlight the obstacle location on a minimap in the upper right hand corner instead blocking the entire screen.

      Thanks! The team will keep working on it but they did a great job, given the time constraints!

      Thanks for the coverage! I do agree with this comment. Seeing the athletes begin the obstacle would be great. The map is cool and nice to know where the athlete is on the course but if they could put it on the side would be really slick. Appreciate the coverage and quality of the video. Thanks again!

    Would love to have the full coverage with the commentary come back. These cuts feel so disjointed and make the race lack context.

    As others have said, the enormous map obscuring the race footage at the start of some obstacles is obnoxious and serves no real purpose. Also, I much prefer the broadcasts with live commentary throughout the entire coverage. Other than that though it was a good video. I enjoy the cut version without hours of plain running and heavy breathing.

    Love thats it's filmed and we can watch, would really enjoy it better if it was filmed with the steady cameras like in the 2019 races. This bumpy footage makes me nauseas.

      Interesting point. I didn't catch that the first time watching. I looked up the rules since it wasn't clear in my mind. 2021 rules: "1. Once four points of contact are made, a competitor is considered committed to an attempt and may not restart the obstacle. 2. A competitor must start with the first panel at the start of the obstacle." By these rules, the technique in the video looks legal.

    • @leocriscuola
      @leocriscuola Před 3 lety

      @@aaroncoffman8134 do you consider where she started the first panel?

    • @aaroncoffman8134
      @aaroncoffman8134 Před 3 lety +1

      @@leocriscuola Yes. Rules just state "A competitor must start with the first panel at the start of the obstacle." Seems to me a racer can start anywhere on that first panel, according to the rules. 26:28 in video for comparison of the 2 runners. The rules don't define a "panel", but it seems to be it would be a particular "plane" of the obstacle. In other words, Helix consists of 6 "panels" to traverse across. Each panel has 3 vertical "sections".

    Love watching these! Question though: Are burpees replaced with a penalty loop in all races?

    • @joshuabates1046
      @joshuabates1046 Před 3 lety

      There were still burpee penalties in the race. This is the first time I had seen penalty loops in place of burpees at some of the obstacles.

    • @aaroncoffman8134
      @aaroncoffman8134 Před 3 lety

      I have been seeing more penalty loops this year. In the Beast on Saturday, there were 5 penalty loops instead of burpees pits (Beater, Box, Spear, not sure of other two). On Saturday's Super and Sprint, there were 4 designated penalty loops (Spear was back to burpees). 5 penalty loop obstacles is most I've encountered in a single race.

    How can Lindsay Webster be so consistently poor at throwing the spear ? She is an elite athelte and had the upper body strength to be very accomplished at all other obstacles and yet she has a very poor record at spear throwing ?

    • @jonathancrawford1909
      @jonathancrawford1909 Před 3 lety +5

      This is an uphill spear throw. She was trying to throw with a little more power this time to compensate. She has gotten much better at hitting the spear if it is level

    • @amblincork
      @amblincork Před 3 lety

      @@jonathancrawford1909 Spear throws are often ' uphill' in Spartan races so that does not explain her consistent poor record - anybody with the upper body and arm strength she clearly has should be capable of much better performance at spear thorws - race commentators have often spoken about her poor record. It doesnt make sense

    • @amblincork
      @amblincork Před 3 lety

      @@jonathancrawford1909 I looked again after your comment ( 21 minutes) and it was not uphill was the problem but her technique - the spear turned 90 degrees in the air and hit the target flat on with the tip point completely away - I suggest she should get coaching from a Javelin thrower or coach. Had the spear being correctly pointing at the target,, it would have been a good throw and seemed to have enough force that it would have lodged correctly - she really cant afford to be missing spear throws in races where Nicole Mericle is competing

    • @Thee_Man_of_Steel
      @Thee_Man_of_Steel Před 3 lety

      Many elite athletes still have a weak spot. She has admitted that this obstacle is a struggle for her in previous interviews. I think some of it is mental. She knows she struggles with this so I I'll bet she lacks confidence and is probably a little nervous when getting ready to launch that spear hoping that luck is on her side. I've stood at that spear throw three times, including at this race, and it is a little awkward to be standing downhill from the target and at an angle sloping to the right.

    • @jonathancrawford1909
      @jonathancrawford1909 Před 3 lety +1

      No the Utah spear is especially uphill. I’ve done 120+ races and Utah is more uphill than other course (2ish feet above your feet). The reason a spear turns sideways is because your arm doesn’t stay straight. This is due to people trying to throw it too hard

  • @adamsaldana5462

    How can you be called a spartan if you cant throw a spear
