When I come home from work without any plans for the evening, my entire headspace is already occupied with plans of what I will do. I don't understand how can anyone just agree to something on such a short notice without time to reprogram the headspace? This is really stressful.

My Uncle one year came by my Oma's house unannounced when we were in Germany, and my father and I were out looking for something on a whim and he was so upset that he didn't know of our plans to leave and demanded we return immediately. It drives my family insane when we come to visit, I think, because we just do things as we do them with no plans. One year, we landed for a visit, and the next morning, I was looking through the paper and saw that a Renaissance festival was happening locally. I was so excited and changed the plans for the whole time we were there to go to it. We all had a fantastic time, but I don't think it was even on their radar when we landed. Like "this crazy American, we didn't have these plans and now this is what we are stuck doing."
I must be the exception to the rule. I love being spontaneous and find *unnecessary* planning weeks ahead a weird German hassle. As a climber I know how quickly local weather forecast in Saxon/Bohemian Switzerland can get outdated overnight so you have to switch climbing destinations, or like a fellow climber always claims "wer abends plant, plant doppelt." (He who plans the evening before, plans twice").
