  • The Plute Bull is one of the most famous trophies in the history of American big game hunting. Taken in Dark Canyon, near Crested Butte, Colorado, this huge elk was hunted in 1899 by coal miner John Plute, a friend of the John Rozick family. Plute died in 1922, the same year that Ed Rozman was born. The step-son of John Rozick, Ed Rozman has been the curator of this magnificent trophy for most of his life. Now the family is offering the trophy for sale in an online auction, which can be viewed at www.worldrecordelkauction.com. This is Ed Rozman's story of John Plute and how he hunted the bull elk known as the "Plute Bull", which scores 459 7/8 gross and 442 3/8 net. It is now the #2 Boone & Crockett typical elk, edged out by the Alonzo White elk taken in Arizona, by only 1/4".
